Man Lazlow is such a legend. What a great interview. Rockstar was always so under the radar with their developers, but Lazlow’s work with the radio on those PS2 GTA games is truly etched into my brain. I was 12 years old when GTA 3 came out and I can’t even put into words how formative those PS2 GTA games were on my taste in games, in music, in movies, in comedy, etc. Especially the radio stations.
With how secretive rockstar are, this genuinely be the most illuminating and ‘behind the curtain’-y interview for their games ever. Some small things he’d talk about regarding the crafting of the world and Easter eggs is stuff I’ve legit always wanted to hear about

Does anyone remember the swing sets in GTA4? Running a car into them just right and the sprite would freak out and eventually send your car SOARING into the air several hundred feet.
Man, Lazlow's voice was the narrator of my formative years. Any time a new GTA came out the first thing my friends and I would do was smoke a ton of weed, park a car and listen to his radio show. This is insanely cool and all of this behind the scenes rockstar info is valuable considering how secrative and tight lipped rockstar was.
The story and gameplay are great, its the countless unskippable loading scenes at each corner which made me lose interest in that game. Watching Max slowly walk over to push 2 buttons and go up an extremely slow elevator after every shootout, when there are time based challenges in the game, that becomes tedious very quick. And the scoreboards were hacked instantly to the point of the scores being so big that it crashed some game-modes making them unplayable till this day and R* did nothing about it.

Me, personally, I prefer playing as Arthur, I think he's written better than John and has better dialogue etc.

I remember being in Miami when Vice city came out and seeing the yellow car in front of the versage mansion (it’s always there) in the game. My mind was blown.
Fantastic podcast! Its really nice to see long form interviews with video game devs.
The side tracks from Lazlow's RDR suicide note story are insane
Great having Lazlow on. GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas were a big part of my childhood (I was an autistic loner). Lazlow's GTA writing was hilarious the entire time. Also hearing about super meth makes me feel fine about doing coke
"Life is pain" was a killer line
merauder song
Truly loved this episode. Thank you Dan for making this happen! I am grateful.
I have two steamdecks right now its the best. Selling the old lcd one soon though. Go for oled if you can!
Can't tell you HOW MUCH Lazlow and Dan are responsible for my sense of humour and taste in music. Thanks, genuinely appreciated this!
