    This guy blows away most mainstream guitarists. Unreal playing. Should be in a band.

      From what I have read and heard in TH-cam videos, Greg chose not to pursue a life on the road as would be required in a true band., He likes to be home with his family and not touring all the time.

      @Paul from Brooklyn His Beyond over the top... On Acid, Personality, Repelled band members. I like his personality. But being on the road W/ him. 24/7 ?? Inpossible. Even though he was Beyond. 99.999 Guitarist of his day. Tha beautiful soul that he is, INPOSSIBLE to live with.

      +Paul Fabrique Agreed, ...well, maybe for hi-gain they were, debatable. BUT for clean/cleanish type tones, P90's reign SUPREME.

    A '57. LP. With P-90's ?!? Very RARE Indeed !! A few of those surfaced in 68. I had one, & over the years, found 2 more. ( Same with a COUPLE of 58. V's.) The LP' Were kinda Obvious, Big neck, & 50's headstock. Lightweight Honduran Mahogany, Brazilian board, But they were finished in 68. W/Nylon saddles, Reflector knobs, ect. Many were turned into "Burst Conversations " If you found one in the 70's/80's they were Cheap, ( Yet, usally a 56' leftover !) When they switched to Humbuckers, ppl didn't want P-90's.
    Now, they are Stupid expensive .

    You can hear the difference that wood sounds compared to new custom shop.

    I have a '56 just like that one. Excellent condition, under bed find. BUT. Mine sounds much different to that one. I open the throttle full bore. The thing absolutely roars. You have to ring their neck.

      If only EMG made a P90 sized Hetfield set. It would save me so much time with a blunt chisel and lump hammer.

      With a B-bender installed and Nashville three-pickup blend wiring it would be a thing of beauty.

    just a silly observation... i love the way the truss rod cover on late 50s models is not fastened right up against the nut. i mean, they stand off 3/16 of an inch or so.

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. And up till this time the Gibson logo is really low close to the tuning keys.
      On the 50's Bursts the 'n' was a lot closer to the top of the headstock, as you see here:
      photos.smugmug.com/Guitars/Kramer-59-Burst/i-9zmGK87/0/L/Kramer%202%20(59%20Burst)%20027-L.jpg
      You can always tell when an early Goldtop was converted to look more like a '59 - the logo is in the 'wrong' position!

    • @twinsmm1
      @twinsmm1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ha! you got me looking at pictures (including yours). looking at a 2017 headstock, the descending part of the logo "g" is as low as the d string tuning post ferrule. in your picture it doesn't even come close. and, of course, the truss rod cover (on the '17) is right up against the nut.
      ...sorry, just re-read your post. 'observed a '55 headstock. now i see exactly what you mean. it almost looks like the overall length of the headstock might be different too.

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      twinsmm1 in Beauty of the Burst it says they just moved the logo higher. Once you see how odd the earlier ones look you can't UN-see it. It was a work in progress much like the changing bridge systems and neck angle and neck shape and pickups and finishes and fret sizes.
      Another reason the reissues look wrong is the positioning of the four pots. Real Gibson 50s les Paul's have those knobs slightly farther away from the pick guard, so that the middle point of the two volume knobs is about exactly the middle line of the stop tailpiece. All the new custom shop RI guitars miss that detail. You can usually tell from a picture once you see the difference.

    what is that guitars approx value,I saw one today and the store had it for about 25,000

    • @stepitupandgo67
      @stepitupandgo67 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      about right...probably closer to 30

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They got overvalued for a time and they dropped back. Burst Hysteria. Still one of the nicer really usable early Gibson models for having the kinks worked out of it, since very early Fifties ones have questionable neck angle and bridge hardware so I would not pay even ten grand for a 52/54. Just not very usable specs.
      Because everyone wants PAF LP Standards and Goldtops I consider these 56-57 LP Models with single coils a pretty good value if it's an amazing player and doesn't weigh much over eight pounds. Not just a display turd. Some mega-dollar Bursts are really just a display turd as well, and what's the point of tying up the capital in a decorative piece of furniture unless you're a billionaire?

    But I thought 57's had the PAF's? So this is very rare right? Meaning it had to have been a really early 57' ? Either it's amazing!
