I've had some people tell me that the 281C wasn't recalled. Only the A and B models. Regardless after trying a few I've found that none of them would work on the fixed temp side. I don't give our customers a choice. If they have any 281s or 283s they get replaced or they don't get my signature.
Was the initial alarm caused by heat or your special juice shorting the wires on top of device? Just an observation. May be flipping it over with terminals pointing down would be more precise test?
The opportunity to get rid of them is kind of over my school district that I work in is aware of the recall but they have been left as there was not the manpower to replace all of the devices during the period of the recall where it was covered for new devices something along the lines of there was a brief period where they would cover the cost of replacing them but that window is gone so now they just are left and get replaced when they are found to not work during testing might be a similar situation for you not sure

My dads grill almost exploded yesterday and the thumbnail looks like the inside of the grill when we opened it. Good thing I knew where the fire extinguisher was. Great video!
I found it’s easier to dispense the special liquid if you put it in a super soaker water gun. If there is no available flame, stick a match on the end. I am the king of water fights now in my neighborhood lmao.
@@nics-systems-electric At the school I work at has these detectors and when I said something about it to the district they said that they were fine and did not need to be replaced
I am surprised when u added more and the wire was burned that it still set off 🤣😂. And at 7:40 u made a flamethrower and id imagine u say "I HAVE THE POWER"
Well I can see why its recalled by the detector being a bon fire now and it still wont go off lmao. Special liquid is ~~gasoline?!?!?~~ This test also demonstrates how fire alarm wire will work when being burnt
Yes it was gasoline any other type of wire would’ve actually perform the same way in this test as the copper all has the same melting temperature the insulation temperature is slightly higher at 105° instead of 90° however I think the fire was hotter than both of those so fire alarm wire would still work as usual for slightly longer but once past the temperature the insulation will no longer be an insulator Which is most likely why Horn strobe went off and on because of the insulation being melted leaving the copper conductors to make contact with each other
Why not setup a fire beneath the detector instead of lighting the detector on fire? Would have been a better video with a heat gun and an infrared thermometer to gauge when the detector went into alarm. This reminds me of a Beavis and Butthead video.
You do understand that he did that with a heat torch and it heated past the alarming point. The detector didn’t even activate, it was just the wires melting together
Whenever My boss says we shouldn’t replace these again, I’m showing him this video lol

What does “Not a life safety device” mean on the heat detector
It means it can’t be used as a device for human or life safety just for property protection
Edwards put it on there just in case they had to have a massive recall (wink wink) lol
