Hey! It means that you play a ghost note, the best thing is for you to look on how to do that. To give you a brief explanation it's basically muting the string and plucking it , and it will give a percussive sound!

this isnt required in half step tuning you just gotta bring every note up one on the fret board i play it that way! so instead of 8th fret you play 7th

It's a ghost note, you lay your fingers on the strings without pressing and pluck to make a percussive sound. Look for ghost notes tutorials and you'll get it ;)
