Is Outgunned & Outgunned Adventure considered a easier or "lighter on rules" to play RPG, or medium, complex? How is it in complexity as compared to other well known RPGs? This would be one of my first attempts to play RPGs. Thanks
I don’t have the rules but do have experience with different ttrpgs and read the outgunned quickstart. From my perspective it’s either a rules light or rules medium game. It’s modular in the sense that you can play outgunned adventure without the outgunned core rulebook, if you play without the core rulebook I would consider it rules light. But what is light and medium is subjective of course. Dungeons and Dragons I would consider as rules heavy as an example.
Yes the game is definitively considered a rule light RPG, and we think it might be a good first game for new players! The reason is that OG is not overly narrative, as it give you all the rules and tools you might need, but it's also extremely easy to run. We try to make our game as accessible as possibile, and OG was even used in several schools to introduce 14-18 years old to RPGs and improvisation
