- In this video, I talk about buying a used car. I tell you the significance that the number of kilometers (or miles) represents with regards to the quality of the used vehicle. The truth of the matter is that the odometer reading is just a number to use as a gauge, but the real way to tell whether or not a used car is likely going to be a good purchase is to do a full inspection. I also give you some tips with regards to figuring out how long you want the car to last, and using that number to guide your purchase.

Average is 20,000km per year. So once i decide on a car i do that math and it helps me decide. Your other advice is sound as well. Match up the km to the condition of car. You can also google the recomended maintenance schedule for the car your thinking of and look at was has been done or has to be done at what km’s

I dont think there is a car in existence that after 150k Km is considered not usable any more. (Im talking european,japanese). Unless its driven on its limits 365.
Agreed. Modern cars with normal use, even as much as taxi use, run normally significantly more. For example toyota camrys in NYC are used as yellow cabs may go up to 250 thousand miles. Thats 400 thousand kilometers.

I've put timing chains in 60 thousand mile c class Mercedes. One owners. I know the 2016 Volvo xc 90 burns more oil than it has in it before a scheduled oil change.
Gentleman as you said, the driven feeling of the car cosmetically can be very much enhanced to make sure you take your feelings on the top and take the worst decision of your life to have that car in your garage. Not much impressed as not many innocent people know the tactics used by the car Market about the car feeling stuff mate.

You did not talk about, kms over time. Like sometimes kms seem reasonable but might be quite high for the year and has done more kms over time. And perhaps talk about what is too much over a certain period of time
Kind of irreverent if you’re getting a high mile car and you’re a low mile driver. I don’t even do 10k Kms per year I can take a 4 year old car with 100km and it won’t have 160 at 10 years old.

Just got a 2020 4runner SR5 premium with 115,000kms on it, its in really good shape so im really hoping to get 7 years out of it. Tried telling the wife its a bad idea to be paying on somthing with that high of mileage for the next 7 years, more than likley the thing will have close to 300,000km by the time were done paying it off🤦.

When you say kilometers I already don't want to listen anymore. I have a Chevy truck that I bought for 45 hundred dollars with 178 thousand MILES on it. It now has 415 thousand MILES on it. Would not to hesitate to drive it across the country. Savannah, Ga. to Newport beach California. You answered no questions regarding your thumbnail. I'm a master certified mechanic and the one thing I can tell you is everything made after about 2016 or so is absolute junk.
