My first thoughts exactly mate. I can already buy pretty much the same guitar with a different model name (AmOriginal, AVRI), because they've been putting it out since they invented it! My second thoughts: How is a 50s Tele, the most straightforward, no frills guitar going, costing £2000?!
I agree Shane, great guitar but nothing new. Similar sound, touch and quality can easily be found in Fender's catalogue for less. Avri, Baja, 50's Original, JV 50's etc.
All the youtubers are featuring these but yours is the first one i trust cause Fender didn't give it to you and also it's great to have the comparison to another vintage inspired tele of a similar price range. Thanks!!!
Just bought one been playing it non-stop. Thus guitar is beautiful at 3 25 kilos it's perfect. U shape neck is awesome. I'm so glad I got one. I re a d alot if reviews about this before I got it. The fuss about sticky necks hard to bend, frets not high enough it's BS! If you are a half decent player this is a dream . It's just so easy I can't understand reviews saying it's unforgiving or not a modern guitar ease of playing. This is awesome.
This video will be the most weighted of the ones I have watched. Your videos intheblues and your love and knowledge as a musician is highly respected by myself and many others. I have never ever owned a telecaster. I will probably put a stacked Seymoour in the bridge and neck. I am after the 7.25 radius for my smalll hands and the ash, and that butterscotch blonde is so beautiful. Dirty clean I love.
Kudos to Shane, he always offers a totally honest and non biased review. So many TH-camrs were given fender guitars and have been exposed for doing so recently.. not Shane. Keep the reviews coming mate .. respect from a fellow lefty 💥❤️
I saw they had LH versions and was wondering when you would be reviewing this “new” line of Fender guitars. Thank you for the demo. You are sounding great as always, Shane.
What a beast, All the American Teles ive tried of recent years have been great. Ive decided on a Am Pro ii mainly for playability. Deep c with rounded edges is felt best in my hands. Anything larger is usually fatiguing for but I still enjoy hearing other tele pick ups. Awesome Demo
Honestly just more of the same for lefties - another butterscotch blonde tele, another sunburst strat. Only real standout is the surf green JB with matching headstock - but once again lefties get the short end of the stick. If they offered one of the red or blue JMs in lefty, then the line might be worth the interest. But this is also the 3rd line they’ve introduced in the last 5 years with a tele deluxe, and still no lefty model. 1 of those lines (Vintera) don’t even have left handed options, not even one is offered in Squire. Not to mention the Performer and Player Plus series that also offer zero left handed options. Generally speaking, I’m just losing any interest in Fender at this point.
It's the same for righties though, THIS TIME. It's a vintage line, and back than there where only the few colors. So your not getting fuckt, THIS TIME, as it's period correct. I'm glad that I'm a lefty that plays righty. Go check out casino guitars. They're leading the charge on lefties and trying to change that aspect of production guitars.
I’m assuming the custom shop models will have significantly lighter woods. Otherwise, these are essential spot on reissue models just like the custom shop besides the pickups/light bodies. Also SICK amazing as always Shane, especially those High gain licks
Thank you for trying it with high gain Shane. In every other video that i've seen people play it with low gain or play something twangy cause it's "vintage" like they never turn anything up 😀 About the guitar i absolutely love the pickups but the vintage frets and the heel truss rod adjustment are always a turnoff for me. I get that we want vintage feel but it also has to be playable and easily adjustable. They should combine modern and vintage.
I'm looking forward to the dedicated comparison video you mentioned. I'm probably not going to buy one of the new Fender American Vintage II's (primarily because I'm very happy with my American Professional II Stratocasters, am fully aware of the differences between them, but just can't find enough about the American Vintage II's for me to justify adding one). Thank you to you for making, and Sky Music for furnishing the guitar for, this great video. Please keep them coming.
Although this guitar sounds fantastic and has the iconic 50s Telecaster vibe, I’m a little disappointed that for lefties this is pretty much the entire Telecaster lineup available. For me it's simple: out of ANY guitar I ever tried, the neck of the pro II is just the best. It's not small (deep C) but finished in supernatural satin combined with rolled edges. The pro II does have a warmer and more modern sound as well as a 4th position in it's stock form which is a nice addition. It's also cheaper, though not cheap. A better question is ‘ how bad could a simple product consisting of two pieces of wood and some basic hardware, that’s been manufactured with no change for 70 years, possibly be in an era when the device in your pocket - which probably cost less - is astronomically more complex and made utterly perfectly ? Another very good question is ‘why Teles ( SX, for instance ) that are at least 85% as good are fraction of the price ?
Fender are willing to take a hit on the profit margins of their less expensive ranges (the Player series for example, and even more so with Squier) to get "brand loyalty" from younger people / beginners. They then make it up on the flipside by ripping off well-heeled Boomers & prestige-seekers. Gibson are even worse in this respect (& their QC is not as good either).
Still waiting for a Fender which combines modern playability with true vintage sounds. It doesn't make sense for Fender to make one though given they do so well with separating those two aspects of guitar building (AmPro II/AVII).
Hey Shane how is the fretboard radius ? I know it's a 7.25 vrs the 9.5 on the american original which I imagine is a bit more playable? Is the american vintage harder to play?
This new series has some nice ideas but at first glance the execution looks way off the old AV 1st gen (2012-17) - which I dont think will ever be repeated in accuracy (case candy et al). The neck tint has gone back to the old AVRI pumpkin hue. Also - the differences between a real 51 and 52 are basically zilch barring the narrow 12th fret dot spacing on the 51 vs the wider 52 and probably a more esquire type neck on the 51 vs a bigger u on the 52 but real slight difference.
This new range of Fender's are north of 2k USD, it just seems that is too much for bolt on guitars. I know companies are always looking where they can increase margins, this just seems like too much money vs their regular line. Seems you can get a new regular tele (or strat) that is hundred's less. IDK, maybe people have money to burn.

Unfortunately the current exchange rate makes this new series ridiculously expensive in Australia (along with almost everywhere else outside the USA), especially since they are even somewhat overpriced in their home country. Not a great time to be releasing American-made instruments. The Fender Player & Squier Classic Vibe series remain very competitive value propositions, despite some recent price hikes; same with the Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" range. Now, what do I think of this Tele? It sounds nice, which of course it should, but also rather "polite" for a Telecaster. Fender know their market: rich "Boomers" will love it.
It’s been on sale for $2850 AUD if you look online…. (I ended up getting the original 50’s Tele for $2550aud, also left handed). There are still some good deals…
A Squier cv 2022 Telecaster face very well against the Fender... The Fender is great...but the Squier for me is better, quality-price is the real deal...
AO 50s sounds way better, also their new 60s took away the beloved binding on the side, cutting costs but still expecting high price tag. And the 64 pickup is way better than 63 so Fender is heading downhill due to cost cutting.
Hey Shane . Try moving the condenser mic back to EXACTLY. 12 inches (1foot) from the cone of the speaker . It will give you a 1 millisecond delay which is almost imperceptible . With the 57 on the grill it gives a GREAT starting tone .
That’ll pick up way too much ambient buzz and things rattling in the room there’s nothing wrong with a close mic. I have the high pass filter on as well. I used to do that at my old place but the dual mic blend works better in this room.
I have an american professional II that I traded for a les paul studio and I was thinking sell it and get this vintage, do you thing is worth it or I won’t find much differences?
No kidding, it's a new guitar from the most popular guitar brand in the world lol. My review is a bit different, I actually list what I don't love about it being that this guitar is on loan.
The review focuses too much on the sounds. Tbh it’s impossible to tell the difference between an expensive Tele and a cheap one over the internet. What you could talk about more is the feel and the finish. I have the AVRI 52 Tele. I can definitely say it is a cut above any Mexican or Japanese Tele I’ve owned. Everything about it is consistent, the playability, the beautiful nitro finish, the rolled fret ends, the lack of buzzing, the lack of e strings slipping off the fretboard. The thing with cheaper guitars is that although they can sound good, there is usually 1 thing that is disappointing, and can’t be fixed. What you pay for with more expensive guitars is consistency. I’ve come to realise that is worth spending an extra grand on. And I wish I’d spent money on an expensive instrument to start with, instead of wasting money buying and selling before finding a keeper. Anyway, they are great guitars.
And l picked Jazzmaster in ydays poll ffs! I do get it, they all sound different & l haven't broken one yet.... unlike another brand (don't even fkn look at it!!!).
@@intheblues hahaha! It'll still be another Tele Shane! This one sounds gd, luvd a bit of gain... & does everything in between...now ya nd one of them Jim Root Teles with EMGs for ya Halloween Horror.clips!
What comparison? It's called guitar playing. If you have no change in your attack your playing will bore the crap out of people. What a stupid comment.
Not a great comparison or demo. 1. Jumping into a new guitar with different neck size and fret height requires a slight change in playing style to get the most out of it. 2. For a channel called intheblues, never actually played any interesting blues riffs. Just some boring AF easy listening progression that sounded like it was pulled from the elevator at the old folks' home. 3. The 51 is designed to play certain types of music that were hot in the 40s and 50s, not playing those styles to demonstrate the instrument is absurd.
I want this guitar badly! But also prefer a fatter neck and wider nut width. What’s the width on your vintage Tele Shane? Is it closer to the Pro II? Thx

It’s been on sale for $2850 AUD if you look online…. (I ended up getting the original 50’s Tele for $2550aud, also left handed). There are still some good deals…
damn is zero dislike. This video is lit
It's a competent Tele from the big F! \m/
Made by Leo Gomez first left-handed Telecaster 1951
I love a good Tele, that is a good, if expensive tele. But there's nothing there that would make me buy one.
A well, a well, a well, a woo.... Tele me more, Tele me more....
A-hah a-hah a-hah...
haha :)
Very different guitars. I think if you're not necessarily after vintage specs the pro II is the more versatile and comfortable guitar. Cheaper too.
Nice 👍🏿💪🏿🎸
I’m looking for a lighter option so that rules this out for me.
It seems EVERYONE is promoting the Vintage II Fenders, even down under
No kidding, it's a new guitar from the most popular guitar brand in the world lol. My review is a bit different, I actually list what I don't love about it being that this guitar is on loan.
🔥🔥🔥
Oh, that Poll wasn't for this guitar. I borrowed this from Sky Music :)
@@intheblues hahaha! It'll still be another Tele Shane!
This one sounds gd, luvd a bit of gain... & does everything in between...now ya nd one of them Jim Root Teles with EMGs for ya Halloween Horror.clips!
So basically it’s an amazing guitar
It’s hard to compare tones when you play completely different riffs with differing attack in your left hand. 🤦♂️
What comparison? It's called guitar playing. If you have no change in your attack your playing will bore the crap out of people. What a stupid comment.
@@intheblues Chris Buck seems to manage it.
ps - you can disagree with your subscribers without implying they’re stupid.
first
Not a great comparison or demo.
I'm really bummed they put a thin neck on what is supposed to be a 51. That's the Nocaster era and should have a beefy neck. Disappointing 🫤
It's not thin like a modern C. Some people might consider this thick, but it's not as beefy as my one.
@@intheblues how would you compare the neck to a Nocaster or Baja neck?
I want this guitar badly! But also prefer a fatter neck and wider nut width. What’s the width on your vintage Tele Shane? Is it closer to the Pro II? Thx
Cool.wih I could afford one
