I would not of believed this had I experienced it personally.
When I was playing local A grade A1 I was in the top 5 of local seniors comp and I was the A1 junior.. This is in Australia. In Melbourne actually.
On practice night one day an old. Vietnamese- Cambodian guy came with a family that used to play lower grade like C and d grade.
They asked me to play their grandfather and the younger guy around 50 his son said just play his good he used to represent his country.
He was a chopper but he was like 70-75 any way I could not beat him and I had a very powerful loop kill forehand. The son could tell I wa incredulous and thought and could tell I thought it was a joke. I was only 16-17 then and used to play in state tournaments.
If I had not experienced it I would of definitely been commenting that this is not possible. That is another thing I love about table tennis you can be small, big, old or young and you still have a good chance of competing satisfactorily. It’s the great equalizer in a certain sense!!!

Well, I m 66 now and I can clearly move faster and with more flexibility than this guy. He is very stiff, but skillful with his wrist and hands. He uses traditional penhold which is practically dead after Ma Lin era. RVP/RPB is the more modern superior penhold style which I use. I pattern after Wang Hao.
Generally speaking,the long pimp rubber is very suitable for the aged players' usage. Its advantage can allow the aged players have few needs to play ping ping games vigorously or intensely with one another in games as well as its unique performance features often interferes with mediocre players' judgement for balls in games. In general,it's a kinda tricky weapons.
I am 73 years old I am having passion playing table tennis. Still I am playing. Hats off to the young old man. Super.
if my memory is correct, this old man won a single title in the world veteran table tennis championship 11 years ago.
You should show what is the long pimple rubber vs the inverted rubber.

I see so many people saying what the young player should have done, but i want to see each one of them play the pips guys. Everything looks easy or clearer from outside.

Long pimple rubber works like antipower when someone defence, but its pimples work like spin when attack and chop.
Uncle Wang Yin is very² good skill, good technique,good serve..
are his serves legal with that low toss?
I know a player playing the same and all I have remembered is to never push cause is a gift for this TT style.
That is how to play against LP in the 1st basic step now, push-attack-push-attack. Put it this way, if you cannot attack the LP's push (拱), it is hard for you to win.
I believed that kid had a court-side coach. YOu could see he changed his tactic and this forced the old players to start twiddling.

this uncle reminds of a player in my club, he does the same. He only push or block ball back and ball placement is so good. Some people dont understand how they loose against him, its the worst players i can play is this kind. Ball is so loose/no spin i shoot the net or over the table or loose to placement
Also, the young player is putting almost all his shots to the backhand court, no variation, no middle or FH placement. Every shot to the BH makes it easy for the Uncle to just stand and control the court.

That is what defensive players force you to do. Especially the ones who play with a tacky rubber.
I don't think he is a pro, his skill is less than some of my friends who are just occasional university players. He is just an average amateur club player, who has got no variation, no adjustment and can't even make a consistent top spin drive, which is a must if you want to be a serious ping pong player.
Don't listen to the comments that act like the pimple player should lose if only the spinny rubber player knows what they are doing. That's bullshit. A pimple rubber player almost won the world championships not that long ago. Early 2000s. Playing a modern defensive game with pips.

Young player is letting old guy control the table. The red player does well when he hits deep because old guy is pushing his short balls side to side throwing young guy out of position to loop him. Oldie is playing belly-to-table so young guy needs to play deep and cause him to just block it back.
this is way table tennis is the best Sport. you are never to old fore table tennis
About 30-40% of the 70 yr. old serves are illegal, he doesn't throw the ball up high enough and sometimes he doesn't pull his free arm back. BUT, I like to practice with a pip penholder type of player before I go to a tournament.
The guy had to play without power, since the old man passed all this power back to him through the pimples. I play with pimples myself, but if they play with me without power, I turn the racket over and attack, the style of holding the racket at the old man does not imply an attack with rubber)
Does he play Dawei 388d-1 extra long or whatever those treated LPs are called?
I guess the old man played with a Super Block rubber types... a different type of long pips common rubber
@@Aku-mg2go those are banned though. Even in China in a match like this I don't think he would use it. But I've seen China sell a couple of treated pips but it's legal because it's done in factory similar to factory boosted inverted rubbers

The young player was playing a lot of aggressive shots where the uncle was standing so it became easy for the uncle to block.It would be quite hard for the uncle if the young players attacked on deep forehand.

the red player is the defensive player
it's actually easier to master a long pimple rubber, that's the reason why you see this 70 year old gentleman competing at such a high level. He would not be on the same league playing with a smooth rubber!

I play long pips and have beaten players who were much better/younger/talented than me because they do not understand the spin reversal. (I am 63). Berating the 70-year old because he does not move like someone 1/3 his age is just wrong; I would be so happy to have that physical condition at 70. I would like to know his blade and forehand/backhand rubber types??

@@MaximeTanti that’s what I thought. I think he means when Emrat says you must make him move as a tactic to counter the pips. I am sure he did not mean anything personally he was just pointing out that that is what would work. You can tell Emrat is actually resptful and has admiration for the old guy. The guy that thought his berating him has perceived his comment incorrectly.
It’s not that he doesn’t have the knowledge. I bet his coach is experienced enough to teach him everything about how to win against this type opponent but easier say than done. You have knowledge but you might lose as well.
Yes, you are dame right, that kid did not start to play TT this morning. At his level, he must play against LP before. At first, he believed his loop was able to loop through the LP. So, he did not bother to move the LP player.
The young man's handshake at the end was too casual.
it doesn't actually qualify as a "hand shake". He was frustrated and last thing on earth he wanted to do was to shake the guys hand. So he didn't

It is strange to say "His long pimple rubber is unpredictable". But, long pips IS predictable. But perhaps I may have misunderstood what you meant.

if you're implying that the young guy wasn't trying as hard as he could have because he was being "respectful" you are 100% incorrect. The young guy couldn't handle the rubber and got frustrated. The young guy actually showed disrespect at the end by not actually shaking the older guys hand.

A year ago I lost against a player exactly played the same way. It was in Germany but he was a Chinese player from Shanghai.
I lost in the final set and he was about 70 years too.
Normally I like playing against long pimples but these style was new to me.
He finally lost in the final of the tournament against a half pro player.
Not mentioned: his long pips rubber is not legal, the pips are softened and enlarged.

Bravo to him at this age. But many of his serves are against nowadays rules. He doesn’t toss the ball high enough. And the referee apparently doesn’t know or letting it go.

You don't see long pips played this aggressively much. Very impressive. I am not good enough to beat a good pips player with my inverted rubbers, so I would probably try and beat a pips player using a blade with anti-spin rubber on my backhand. The pips player use your spin against you, therefore, anti-spin rubber and technique is a good alternative for intermediate player, maybe even professional. Thoughts?
It needs a lot of patience when play again someone with long pips (either he plays as a classic chopper, either he pushes with them), as they reverse your spin. If you keep that always in your mind while playing and if you are quite consistent with your attacks, 8 out of 10 times you will win. I would recommend you, especially if you are young, keep on using the inverted rubbers, both sides.
Pimples out should be banned! TT is the only racket sport where different equipment can drastically change a person’s results! After a few weeks of practice long pips can add a few points to anyones game, what’s the point! Win at all cost? Not for me! I’ve seen too many youngsters put off the sport for life by pip players! @@nickclarke4926 long pip are not OP equipment. nothing does. it has certain playing areas where they excel and that is true. long pips also require a lot of training to be at higher level such as the grandpa in the video. most high level very rarely using long pips and there are reasons for it.

rotate the paddle = twiddle. Looks to me like he only has pimples on the black side... he is not just blocking, he is clearly attacking tho. Often coaches don't teach students what is going on with the long pimples!! it happened to me!

Not entirely sure but I guess the first one didn't count. The young chap just served twice (from 8-4 to 9-5) and it should be the senior's turn. Instead it was still the young player serving.
