Dr Samantha - Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to share your perspective! I'm sure you have a ton to do, but this helped me find the right product for my mom, who is on the way to knee surgery - will help pre and post! Thanks again for putting good info out into the world!
Awesome video.......wish I had iced more after my surgery 9 months ago. Now I understand the importance of ice! My incision was glued and there was a period of time when I could not even bear to have the sheet touching my skin....go figure. I am so thankful that I found your web site and your videos after my surgery along with your FB page. Your videos helped me a lot because those around me who had not gone thru TKR surgery did not understand why it takes so long to recover. I am a firm believer in doing my homework and I picked the right surgeon and the right PT for my TKR. My PT supported my recovery both physically and emotionally. I opted to have my surgery in Boston and I spend my winters in Arizona so I was a LONG way from home. I was blessed to spend the first 9 weeks of my recovery with my mom in Massachusetts and that is where I had my PT. I did not return home until my PT told me I was ready. Now 9 months later I feel so much better. This recovery is truly a marathon not a sprint and you sure provide us with great information, thank you again!
Going to have ACL reconstruction surgery next week and watched your video. Thank you for the great reviews and sharing your opinions. I've made my choice now thanks to thus video.
Awesome video, I went ahead and bought a gel mat that the Physical Therapy place has. Is a bit heavy, but excellent to use after week 3 post op. The mat is large and wide. It covers my leg around the knee keeping very very cold and is excellent. I bought two so I can treat my TKRs throughout the year and for always should I happen to engage in an activity that pushed my limits and knee swells (I hope not) but just in case.
I have not found it in Mauritius, so I had to improvised. I have done both knees surgery, the 2nd one is just months, I am still aching, should I continue with the ice? Please Dr Samantha tell me.
Thanks so much for this informative video! I've subscribed to your FB group. I've been reading and watching everything I can in preparation for my LTKR on 9/19. It will be my 3rd surgery on this knee, and swelling was an issue post surgery last time. I'm going to buy what you've recommended here!

@@dr.samanthasmith Thank you! It went well, I'm pretty sore. Thanks for the well wishes! 😊
How. Long after surgery should I ice
I tell my patients 1-2 weeks 20 mins every hour. Then after that, as needed
