I just found out a couple days ago we may be relocating here or somewhere in the area. I have never even been to CT so this was a really helpful video for me.

I was born and raised in Orange, starting in 1936 went to Grammar school there and went to Hillhouse high school in New Haven, had a newspaper route, and mowed greens at the Orange Hills Country club, all until the early 1960s. My family lived there since the late 1700s. And, indeed, my mother became tax assessor in the 1950s and 1960s. So my links are close and my memories deep. Some of the pluses in this video are wonderful to see and hear about. I would have added that you can attend services in Protestant and Catholic Churches and a Jewish Synagogue, and yes, there are three excellent golf courses. Thank you for sharing this.

@Scott Pardee Thank you so much for your comment ☺ Amazing how long your family has been here. I am familiar with the Pardee name from my Morris Cove video research. Is that your family?

Well, my first ancestor, George Pardee, immigrated from England to New Haven in 1644. His two sons, George and Joseph each started a line of Pardees. The Pardee of the Pardee Morris home is a descendant of George. The Pardees of Orange are descended from Joseph. Over nearly four hundred years, the family name has spread through the country. And, yes, when I was a boy, Orange did have a train station.

I wonder if people know at one time Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward had a house in Orange CT.

@victorkreitner754 I didn't know that! I knew he lived in Westport but not Orange. Thanks for the historical tidbit ☺

A mill rate calculator I looked at showed a property tax rate for a $500,000 house in Orange at above $11k. Maybe I am misunderstanding something?

@DB Trains I think it is not the same for everyone. I quickly looked at homes that have sold or are for sale in Orange right now in the $500-$550k range it runs from 7k-10k. Also, not sure if your mill rate was just updated so that could increase these if they were sold before it changed
