    I like how Andy Timmons had a delay on his voice when talking about the delay. That’s some dedication to the sound!

    I just bought the Golden and the Starlight a few days ago waiting for them to arrive, this video almost made me cry, I can't believe what i'm about to be able to play, I feel like if I was about to get a Ferrari or a Stradivarius violin, some sort of top notch quality, highest of all end stuff, and this being my first "expensive" pedals makes me burst in tears out of joy, can't thank enough to the whole uad team for the amount of effort and quality they made available to us, normal people/growing artists.
    What a pleasure was to watch all of you speak with such passion about the sounds, history, and dedication you put into this pedals and the gear it's based on
    And the JHS SHOW RULES!

    Those pedals are the first $400.00 pedals that are absolutely worth every penny of that $400.00. Think about if you separated each type of reverb/delay/modulation into individual pedals; how much would you pay?? I'm buying at least 2 if not all 3 and freeing up space on my board. Thank you Josh and Josh and James and Tore for a great video and, of course, products!

    • @lastboxofsparklers
      @lastboxofsparklers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Huh? Lots of pedals have many effects in them. Alexander pedals do pedals with more effects for half the price. You could actually get a REAL bbd chorus, a REAL bbd vibrato, and an analog flanger for probably less than the UA algos.

    • @phladjki
      @phladjki 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@lastboxofsparklers Absolutely, this is my biggest complaint. Imagine paying $400 for the starlight and mostly using the DMM mode - just get an actual DMM for less $! MXR phaser is a $90 pedal - wut? The sound quality is great but you can get great analog sound quality with a cheaper analog pedal. They need to pack WAY more algos into these before the become worth it.
      Exception is the Golden Reverberator.

    This was great! The video was really quite a technical feat as far as I'm concerned. Josh and James jamming with the band (kudos!) real time was special. I have about 5 UA devices in service and didn't see any point in the pedals... until this. The Eric Johnson thumbs up alone is reason alone to get at least the delay pedal, no questions asked. That guy has influenced so much, including even the picks Andy Timmons uses (or at least used). And I would love to see the AT video without the echo, so please post that separate, if you will. AT has some cool combination of EJ's complexity/accuracy/tone combined with the Hendrix's fire. One sec on Hendrix, he played with absolute fire that I think is unmatched to this day. He also played with real fire too. ;)

    The real question is WHY doesn't Universal Audio offer the real specs on this pedal? No mention of Input Impedance, Bit Rate, Sampling Frequency, Noise Floor, etc. WHY is this the new norm for companies. Do they think we have been dumbed down or are they hiding something?

    • @jamesgrant3343
      @jamesgrant3343 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maybe because the only thing that matters is ’does it sound the way you want it to’ if they said it was 16khz or 192khz sample rate it wouldn’t make it sound different - but your opinion might change. So try it and see what you hear!

    • @josephfelice601
      @josephfelice601 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have tried MANY reverb pedals, rack units, and software. 192Khz is way different. Yes the algorithm is important, but the tails and the artifacts associated with low sample rates is NOT my idea of Golden. @@jamesgrant3343

    You might consider using a service called "Listento". It's a VST that you place in your daw, that outputs high quality low latency audio to whoever you give the link to. Just have your guys mic their stuff up and route through any program that supports VSTs. They pass along the stream links to your sound guy, and boom; everyone can hear.

    One of the main (well, the only, really) complaint I've heard about the DMM is the high noise floor. AFAIK the selling point for the Strymon Brigadier was that it offered the option of doing away with the noise.
    How does the Starlight deal with that? Does it have a btter signal-to-noise ratio or is it aimed at reproducing the artifacts as well?

    Brilliant episode. They really put it in words why something is expensive and why expensive doesn't mean automatically good, but why sometimes expensive has that something. What the 1% in the sound sometimes is. Similar to Analogman stuff. Many don't care the least bit about it, they buy their $20 chinese copies and are happy. But some people can really appreciate their ear and dedication. And seeing that Robert Keeley turn up in the chat! But honestly I just want Tore to be in every interview. He's getting way too much time to do the job he likes instead of doing media.
    Btw that Jackson Kelly behind Tore is super hot. And that Tiger stripe!
    We totally missed James Santiago nerding out about the modulation effects.
    I think what people should do is not talk when they don't know how things are done. Sometimes even when they know. It's like this phenomenon where people think they know better than doctors because they went to internet and read a random person's opinion.

Combining analog and digital electronics knowledge with good ear and mudical understanding probably only one expert in a thousand engineers. In a million would probably be too much because some would be able to work on these circuits but have a daytime job in another business. Also the reason why just throwing a massive amount of people onto the task might not give you the best result.
