yvonnezkea i don't know the details but i think her english is poor because she was raised in japan and didn't practice speaking english at home. its possible that her father speaks japanese at home with them too to become fluent in the language himself. another famous mixed japanese is Eiji Wentz, his dad is american but eiji was raised by his grandma in japan. hence, his english is poor too. thanks for the suggestion! i'll look for it. :)
No, she is actually fluent in English, so is her sister (now living in the USA). Her Japanese mother is also fluent in English. I saw a video once where she was talking to Katy Perry and when she went to the UK to visit her grandmother. For some reason, she hides her ability on TV
She dumbs it down obviously. Her charms used to be "i can relate to u" easily... and being an approachable next door girl. A half who is so japanese at the same times. That's why it hits her image very hard when the scandal broke out. It technically destroys the image public had of her. she's a genuinely good ppl thou

They don't prioritize English language their,unless you want a career related to language/working outside Japan then you technically don't need to learn it. Most schools (except elite/international School) Don't prioritize English it's probably enough if you at least pass the eng written exam then off you go to your career/future.
English is the second language of Japanese so it makes no difference that they may be able to speak English good or bad. They are making efforts to speak a foreign language that's sufficient. English speaking people have no capacity to speak the Japanese language.
English isn't a priority in Japan they always prioritize their own language and culture that's why it kinda amaze them(or others who knew about this habit of them) that there are Japanese celebrity who can speak English well(or at least can speak). In Japan most people neglect English because they're not interested in migrating/working in other countries (they don't need to).
