I suppose the pulley system was to avoid it overturning if you were doing it by yourself. Wonderful table.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I think it was also so that one person acting on their own could extend the table easily rather than the more traditional extending tables which required pulling or pushing from both ends to adjust the length.
