A second channel might be a good idea, so we can all switch our own modes to suit. From my own poor observations the algae growth can be influenced by the duration of the illumination. Ours is on for 12 hours a day on a timer. You keep far more exotic fish than I do, our platies and mollies are pretty resilient, unfortunately the population explosion means doing some water changes, no chance of having a balance.
Aquaclear is the best hob n if it dont come on i tap impeller n its back working again but rarely have dat 2 do and i just bought a turkana pair Tuesday on half priced day at lfs
