You don't have to say "Catholic Christian." All Catholics are Christian. Some non-Catholics are Christian too and some that proclaim Christianity are anything but Christian.
@@adventuresofsteveandlaurie There are a lot of people in our Protestant churches that will say Catholics are not Christian. I will not say that though because it is God who decides what a person's heart is like. However it is not anyone's place to make that decision.

Today is Divine Mercy Sunday in the Catholic Church. It's one of my favorite days of the year. It always the Sunday after Easter. Any Catholic who goes to confession today (or several days before/after) and receives the Eucharist today, will get complete forgiveness of all sin up to today. I'm not sure if praying the Divine Mercy chaplet in church is a requirement but many churches offer this today. To learn more, there's tons on info online about today.
He/she meant 'indulgence'. Your sins are always forgiven, but you have a duty to repair your mistakes, or penance as we call it. If you can't finish your penance in this world, you'll continue it in the purgatory. Indulgence removes all of the leftovers penance in the purgatory
I know the Holy Spirit dwells withing you brother. That is why you are experiencing certain emotions at different points on your journey while visiting the church of the early fathers (Roman Catholic and Othodox Catholic). They are one Universal Church (the body of Christ) that cannot be divided by men in the spiritual realm. Peace be with you, from your Roman Catholic brethen.
Hey Matt, I’m sure you’ve seen Gospel Simplicity’s video at St. John Cantius in Chicago. If you’re ever in the area, it would be great for a video. You would probably be interested in learning about traditional Catholicism there as well.
Hey brother! Great video and, as some others have already said, yes we do believe you are still part of the Catholic Church. We recognize our Protestant and Eastern Orthodox brothers are estranged, but we believe there is only one universal Church that Christ founded. We pray for Unity but understand that is pretty difficult on this side of Heaven.

I would love to hear your thoughts on miracles in different faiths.. like the stigmata of St. Padre Pio, Eucharistic miracles etc. This is a beautiful church.. thank you
As a newly confirmed Catholic (raised reformed, then materialist, then unitarian) I am learning how powerful the sacraments are, received with repentance and faith. Truly a gift from the Lord to and through His Body the Church. God bless you, Matt!
I like that he has finally taken off that ball cap when he's in a church. I think he is beginning to see that he's in a holy space and not just a lecture hall.
Glad you're doing the "what I thought about my experience" video for this one! I hope you can do more of the two part tour and interview video series content for more churches soon. Thanks for what you do! ♥
Can you do a video on YOUR tradition? We are interested sir. I think some form of Reformed but that's like saying some form of Christian at this stage.
I have been subscribed and been watching for years now. Don't have enough space to say all that I want, but again thanks for your constant respect no matter where you end up. If you were to ever come to Louisiana, I would LOVE to meet you. May the Gracious Lord reward you for your work to strengthen His Holy Kingdom!
I loved the intimacy and hospitality of their space, that sense Father is always there & ready to sit down w/ ANYone, strangers obviously included! I’ve only been in non-denominational, contemporary churches, many of which don’t have a week-round location to just “stop in” to talk to your priest/pastor. I’ve finally found a reformed Baptist-church that has this Catholic-church atmosphere….but it’s so odd still when my pastor singles me out, mentions me by name, asks if I need help w/ anything at home…. What?! I’m used to pastors hiding-out in the Green Room until it’s time to teach, dodging out the back door before the final-song and ignoring requests during the week to discuss things.
My impression is that in a lot of non-denominational churches, especially the larger ones, the pastor is thought of more as a celebrity than a shepherd of the congregation who knows and looks after each of his sheep.
I've seen that before as well in the non-denom churches. There isn't a community atmosphere. Thankfully I found a Nazarene Church (Wesylan Methodist) where they really focus on community and the pastors make an effort to get to know you. But I think the ones without a particular creed tend to be less personable.
@@sarco64 as a catholic who was brought back to the Lord through the help of non-denom pastors and sermons online, I’m thankful for these pastors and churches but over the years I’ve also noticed that so many of these mega churches seem to place so much importance into the number of people they’ve baptized and to me it seems that their congregants seem to just be a number. I’ve also noticed that many of them provide milk and not solid food and like to tickle ears by their sermons. I still listen to some of them but I’ve definitely stopped listening to others.
@@PaulDo22 You haven't been educated on the main branches of Protestantism. It has a lot of offer - as much as the Catholic Church and Orthodox branches do. It's the non-denominational ones that are problematic because they have no defined theology.
What a beautiful church! Great video. I am relatively new to the channel and you are a joy to listen to. I am wondering where you fall on The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
I believe Matt said he was Baptist in one video. I was raised Baptist and now go to a Weslyan Methodist Church so I'll try to answer this for you. In both cases, they do believe in the Presence, just that Christ's Divinity is Present through the Spirit, not the Communion elements. So neither believe in transubstantiation, but do believe Christ is Present in a different way. I hope this helps.
As a Catholic who converted almost 2 years ago from protestantism I appreciated this video very much. I encourage everyone to find a local Catholic parish and inquire about RCIA. As for baptism when you spoke about it after Holy Water, the average age in ancient Rome was 27 years old. They couldn't wait for people to "become old enough" because parents have always been understood able to make that decision for their family as God intended for his people just as children are to honor their mother and father in the 10 commandments. For example, what does it mean to honor your father and mother? In the King James Bible it doesn't explain that. In Sirach it does (which was included in the original King James Bible but then removed). Also 2 entire families were baptized in Acts and I encourage everyone to read the Church Fathers about the foundational beliefs on baptism. God bless!
Thanks for you video. I'm a life long Catholic and when I enter one of our churches I feel as though I am getting a taste of heaven. Most churches built in the traditional style will have statues, stained glass windows, art work, all depicting a preview of heaven. In times past, when most people were illiterate these objects told them stories from the bible and the lives of saints and of Jesus. Then there are the stations of the cross, what Jesus went through from his arrest to Crucifixion. Then, at Mass, heaven and earth meet. We view the crucifixion. We are there. Time and space cease to exist for that moment. We receive the real body and blood of Christ. We are united to him and he to us.
Hey Matt could you do a quick video or maybe a community post on the map you were talking about in the podcast? You described it a lot but I think I just need to be able to see it.
we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us. -Lk9 Excellent video. Thank you. Shalom!
I really appreciate how Matt very well enunciate the Theological aspects, also by HEART the Hearth of Christian Community of the Roman Catholic Church and maybe more than any average catholic might express. Welcome Home!
For those wonder what the little brass things are with the crosses on them are at 5:26, they are lights to indicate when someone is in the confessional or when it is empty and you are free to walk in. Sometimes, one will be green and the other red, or they will both be red, with one on meaning, "enter" and two meaning, "not yet."
Yes it is true as we all know that we separated and went our own ways and self paths, but one thing remains and that is the core, the foundation that no matter what denomination you associate yourself with, we can all agree we are all brothers and sisters in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom in faith we believe that one day we will see him, and we will never have a second death for we will be eternal in his grace. God is great indeed! Thank you for making this video and proclaiming the Lord.
Good visit. Thank you. Catholic Church baptizes infants, the younger, the better, but at the age of 14 after they have had instruction in the faith, they go through Confirmation which I'd guess is like the adult baptism in protestant churches. Meanwhile those babies have been full members of the body of the church since birth when the adults answered for them as newborns.
@@langleybeliever7789 Technically Jesus commanded us to be baptized at some point. Though the person should be old enough to make that decision for himself/herself.
Amen - 🌈 Love all the stuff Matt covers from all walks of faith. What everyone has to remember is stop splitting hairs about their "brand" for religion and remember it's all the same GOD we are all trying to worship daily (in whatever way that brings hit home for you). Let's not bring each other down but like Matt lift up and learn from each other.🌈
You are most certainly welcome to any aspect of the Catholic Church and yes - you are most certainly part of the universal catholic chuch- enjoy your videos.
Matt, I require more videos. I have been watching too much, Pints With Aquinas and I fear I am indoctrinating myself to become Catholic. Please both pray for me and release more protestant videos lol
Architecture is a beautiful thing because it really tells a story. The story of the culture that built the church and the story of Jesus within the church.
Thank you for another great video. I am learning a lot about different faith traditions. Perhaps God uses different Christ centered traditions to meet the unique needs of His children. I pray for you as pastor to the online community that has gathered here - including those that watch every video, the atheists/agnostics, devoted Christians, those passing by, the trolls, the curious...all tuning in because a loving God wants to plant or water a seed. Ten years ago, I bet you didn't know you would be teaching an online flock... lol
I welcome you to visit the Eastern Catholic Churches too! Particularly my church the Maronites. We have Eastern tradition but we are Catholic, not Orthodox
Matt - keep up the 'exploration' with sincerity. In describing the 'feelings' or 'vibes' of the church buildings physical reminders, that is actually the very purpose of Sacred Architecture. This round building is still somewhat modernist. Look for some traditional buildings, there might be some in the US, but definitely all over Europe. It is exactly as you describe - it draws the eyes towards heaven. And the stained glass windows are not for colour (though they do that), they are catechisms (remember that till 250 years ago, mass illiteracy was the norm). Actually the illiterate peasants were smarter than the CRT / BLM / Transgender generation we have today. And of course, there's Sacred Art (Michaelangelo etc) and Sacred Music (Gregorian chant). All will draw you towards heaven. But art and music is one thing, the most important is still getting the full theology. Please look up the Eucharistic Miracles - John 6, 1 Cor 10, 11. Dr Scott Hahn, Dr Brant Pitre, Steve Ray, Tim Staples give good, clear talks. A young TH-camr Cameron Bertuzzi, who also dug around keenly, and many Q&As, finally came "home". There is also "The Coming Home Network" run by Marcus Grodi - many, many stories there about all the "roads to Emmaus" - when Jesus is walking right next to you, and you don't recognise him.
Amen. You are part of the Universal Church of Christ. But not in full communion with the visible Church, being a protestant.. May Godbless you and May St. Therese interceed for you…🌸
Matt, I appreciate your fairness to Catholics. Unlike, some Protestant counterparts you respect the church's teachings, art and traditions. It would be great if you could invite Trent Horn to discuss baptism. I think you would have a great discussion on this.
Hi Matt. You are a part of the same Church. It is Christ's Church and we are united through faith in Him and the in-dwelling Holy Spirit. Only Jesus knows who worships him in "spirit and truth" (John 4:24). When we get to heaven, we will see that many, many brothers and sisters from across ecclesial traditions will be there loving and worshiping the Lamb of God because they loved and lived according to his teachings. 💞We must focus on loving one another and looking at the things that we have in common rather than the things that divide us. That is what Jesus prayed for. He wants us to be united. Peace and Happy Resurrection!
Bro, next time you're in St Louis, I'd be happy to hook you up with access to one of the most beautiful churches in the country: St Francis de Sales Oratory. Then take you to the best deli in the Midwest
I think the center piece of every Catholic church is the tabernacle, not the big cross. Then the reason why the church is called "little flowers" is because the altar table has body parts of St Therese Lisieux (St Therese of the Little Flowers). But anyway, it's a great video. Kinda odd to see different denominations describe how the Catholic church looks like
Actually the centerpiece of every Catholic Church is the ALTAR! It is where the sacrifice of the Holy Mass takes place--where Jesus becomes present in His Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity! St. Therese is known by the moniker "the Little Flower" because she spoke of her littleness in God's garden. She is well-known for bestowing roses on those who pray novena request of her...if your request is to be granted. Our local priest had "a shower of rose petals" come down out of the air when he was seeking her intercession. St. Therese, of the Little Flower, pray for us!
Matt, Orthodox priest here. I have enjoyed your videos. I did have one question. You said you come from a tradition that does not baptize infants. I was under the impression that your denomination baptized infants in the beginning. They allowed diversity in the issue, believers baptism became the norm but that they still allow both. Is this not correct? It's what is on the Web site for the Evangelical free church.
As an Anglican, I have experienced the amazing grace of Confession (mostly RC) a number if times. We confess our sins to our Heavenly Father, not to a priest but in the presence of a priest who then pronounced the forgiveness so by Christ on that dreadful Cross for us. The feeling of liberation, of a burden removed, has to be experienced to be believed.
THank you brother-its refreshing to hear this from a protestant brother...little secret here from a Catholic-I have confessed before an Anglican priest when I couldn't find a Catholic one!
@@langleybeliever7789 I am not the judge of other men. The authority of the priest depends on God, not on the man. James 5:16. We Catholics agree that you are part of Jesus' universal Church... just separated from His visible Church united in Holy Communion under the leadership of the Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis. But gratefully, it is only God who knows one's heart. Just continue to respond to Truth as you encounter Him and walk in peace, brother. God bless you!
Thank you Diana, I was going to say the same thing.
Praise God for his great love and grace that meets us where we are. Pray for Matt!
People get so caught up in hating one another because of their differences, people forget to love one another deeply; that is what Jesus taught. Appreciate this comment.
I just wish that we would all realize that Christ unites us however we choose to worship Him. And that we'd stop treating each other badly over our denominational differences. From a Protestant btw

Thank you Matt. Beautiful job. As an aging Catholic, I once heard from an an even older Catholic, “If you cut them deep enough (Protestants) they all bleed Catholic.” But, to be frank, there’s a little Protestant in a lot of us Catholics. Now, here’s my challenge to you: Read what the three pillars of the Protestant Reformation said about Our Blessed Mother. Shalom.
No Protestantism in this Catholic. Heresy is not a good look.

I’m in Australia, and can’t help but notice that Matt posts his stuff at odd times. TMBH is just in time for me to listen on way home from work during the week. Which makes me think sheesh he’s up late, now this one sheesh he’s up early. Love the work!
Haha I think he has the podcast set to post at the same time every day, but the videos don't have such a set schedule so he just posts them whenever
Matt, great video. You're so generous and graceful in these videos, giving a lot of credit to others. Thanks for working and praying for harmony!
I appreciate your approach to your videos. As a Catholic Christian it is refreshing to hear non bashing views of our beautiful church buildings and beliefs. So many people think they know what the Catholic Church stands for but in reality they have it wrong. Lets put theology aside for now and talk about all the things we have in common!
You don't have to say "Catholic Christian." All Catholics are Christian. Some non-Catholics are Christian too and some that proclaim Christianity are anything but Christian.
@@classicalteacher thank you, I do that, at times, because I've had people tell me that Catholics are not Christian.

Catholics are completely forgiven after every confession, not just Divine Mercy Sunday…
@@billmartin3561 yes but if you've forgotten something, it covers it. And any time in purgatory for the previous sins is removed

Hey Matt,
I’m sure you’ve seen Gospel Simplicity’s video at St.

You're a lucky guy. You went to Catholic Church. Life doesn't get better than that.
Can you do a video on YOUR tradition? We are interested sir. I think some form of Reformed but that's like saying some form of Christian at this stage.
He said he was raised in the Baptist faith. He did a video where he went to a southern Baptist church and mentioned it.

If you were to ever come to Louisiana, I would LOVE to meet you. May the Gracious Lord reward you for your work to strengthen His Holy Kingdom!
really enjoy this channel and the about section. Can't stop seeking now.
@@EJ-gx9hl Not exactly their fault. It's not like Protestantism has much food to offer, figuratively and especially Sacramentally.
That which Unites us (Jesus) is So Much Greater than That which Divides us.
Thank you you respect the Catholic Church God bless you ❤❤❤
As a Catholic who converted almost 2 years ago from protestantism I appreciated this video very much. God bless!
I generally don't like round churches, but this one seems nice.
Your reflection in this video captures aspects of faith that are not usually part of the “conversation” about the building of faith.
Best video series on TH-cam.
Thank you Jesus Christ for founding the One True Church, the Catholic Church. Amen
Hey Matt could you do a quick video or maybe a community post on the map you were talking about in the podcast? You described it a lot but I think I just need to be able to see it.

Matt you should check out a Messianic Jewish Synagogue. I think you would find great value in that.
100% You are brother in Christ, it's nice you think I am too. A lot of reformed think I am not.
Historic Roman Catholic views called everyone who rejects the Pope as damned to hell.

Good answer!

Enjoy and learn from your many various visits. As you were closing you got it that even the building confesses Christ.
Ten years ago, I bet you didn't know you would be teaching an online flock... lol
You most certainly are a part of the universal church! From your Catholic brother.
I welcome you to visit the Eastern Catholic Churches too! Particularly my church the Maronites. We have Eastern tradition but we are Catholic, not Orthodox
I love seeing inter-denominational love!
Hi Matt, try to visit the churches in Jerusalem.

Matt, I appreciate your fairness to Catholics. Unlike, some Protestant counterparts you respect the church's teachings, art and traditions. It would be great if you could invite Trent Horn to discuss baptism. I think you would have a great discussion on this.
There is a video of the organ being installed. Where the organ currently sits, was where the old choir box was.

He's said he is Baptist. Baptists don't believe in baptizing infants and only believe in full immersion baptism.
