This is purely Syd at his totally and 100% innocent and simplicity singer songwriter finest, no malice nor any sign of his soon to be schizophrenic devastating downfall the difference between the manic and down to earth child like care free young and hopelessly stricken by the psychological flip side effect that emerges after an episode of his devastating illness
I turned 53 earlier this year and can say this is the only Syd Barrett solo song I ever heard on radio when I was 18 on Long Island. It was about a week after Barrett came out on CD for the first time. Hearing/seeing this video brought me back to the 80's. Music, especially Syd's is magical.
Great job to the folks that made this. I have loved Syd's work since I was a child and watching this little renaissance of his life and art has been inspiring. The community around his music is so passionate and full of love.
Definitely one of my favourite of Syd's compositions. It's amazing that this came out of the well documented chaos that was his mind at this time. So simple and so pure, and great work from Rick and everyone else who helped him realise this beautiful song. I say simple and pure, but it does sound like he's referencing an acid trip he took with a close female friend in the lyrics. Despite my inferred meaning about drug use, I still think the song has a sweet innocence.
So much aptitude for catchy songs! It teaches me there is two worlds for sure. I despise most of reality. It’s mostly complicated cruel unjust with only fleeting moments of bliss and amazement. Escape is my choice. Many different ways to do that without drugs. Him messing around with quualudes. I think that’s what really hurt his brain cells. Plus a bad batch of acid like Peter Greene and his roadie did. Brain
Syd had an open channel for a couple years there. The melodies and lyrics just came to him. I am so glad Gilmour and Waters and Wright decided to help him record his songs post Floyd, otherwise all these 50+ gems would never had seen the light of day. That would have been a shame. A brilliant songwriter.
One of Syd's most beautiful songs. I think Richard ices the cake with his harmonium and 'one slightly-out-of tune' piano! What is that thing?! I know Abbey Road had a piano with drawing pins stuck in the hammers. Makes it sound a bit like a harpsichord. Whatever!
In Wrong Movements, Robert Wyatt related this anecdote about he, Hopper and Ratledge playing on The Madcap Laughs. They're on two songs, No Good Trying and Love You and a third which appears on the Opel compilation, Clowns & Jugglers.
It's difficult to say but I think you'll find it's Jerry Shirley on the drums with David playing the bass. Richard Wright is credited with playing the harmonium on my vinyl copy but not piano!
I'm glad people are still listening to Syd, one of the greatest artists of all time
He was a timeless genius
I’m proudly one of them 💎

Syd, I miss you ... I was born in 2006... and you went this world in that year ...😞
