    When I did this, I hot glued the 8mm nuts to the springs , worked great.

    Very helpful video. I was stuck in the middle of replacing mine and could not get the electrical connector disconnected, but I was trying to get to it through the trunk inside emergency release access. Once I saw how you did it from the out side I was like,"ah, I am a dumb ass!" My cable was stuck though, so I still had to do disconnect it from inside the trunk, but finally got it.
    I would however, suggest taking the emergency release and the handle access covers out just to help see what you are doing. Its only four screws and allows for a great view of what is going on in there. Also try using something sticky like grease or something just to kinda keep the spring and the nut together until you get it threaded. :)

    I find that if you remove the cover to the panel just to the right (emergency top release) you can then access the power connection and any loose nuts and springs. Just remove the two screws and you have access to the whole inner compartment.

      I have seen the other way but this way is very simple. The other way is just extra unnecessary removal.

    On my 06 Z4M, the harness inside the trunk was not ling enough to reach to the outside of the vehicle through the lamp opening to disconnect the pigtail. I had to go in through the emergency trunk release handle and disconnect the lamp pigtail from the wire harness inside the trunk. Very helpful! Thank you!

    Am I right in thinking that it's a good idea to apply a little bit of tape on the new lens where there are obvious weak spots? I can't believe how badly made the BMW third-brake lights are! They also fail a lot on 1-series models too.

    I recently changed the third brake light on my 2003 Z4, and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions where the problem could be?

    • @IvanRossS
      @IvanRossS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerry Kampitsis check your Electric wire. see if the is 12 volt there. check with a regular voltmeter, while someone pressing on the brake pedal

    • @jerrykampitsis3052
      @jerrykampitsis3052 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did, and there is no power when depressing the brake pedal...and now what? Is there a fuse just for the third brake light? Is there a switch (or some junction) which could have blew? Is there a common area where the electrical line brakes? ???

    • @IvanRossS
      @IvanRossS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do not know about common area but if any kind of fuse blown on the car I'm trying to fix I just start pulling every single fuse, one by one

    I just did my third brake light a day ago bc it was cracked no problems. Started the car today and got a bulb out indicator. Replaced with oem part from euro parts. Anyone have this issue?

    Does anyone know where you can find the nut for this brake lamp? I bought a used Z4 and it does not have the springs and the nuts are the wrong size. Thank you.

      maniphonep do u live in USA??

    • @IvanRossS
      @IvanRossS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      maniphonep I'm asking cuz I recommend u to go to ACE hardware store and get spring and bolt there, what ever u need. They have huge selection . It will be much cheaper and faster option. Just make sure u dont over tight !!!! Mine cracked after a year , cuz it was to tight

    • @maniphonep
      @maniphonep 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I think I may try Home Depot. The nuts that are on there now do not have a flange or lip, if you will so it will not hold a spring in place. It may sound like I may need a washer as a alternative.

    I see he broke the old one getting it out. Me too.
    8mm nut driver not 5/16 (10mm) worked on mine.

    This lamp is a terrible design. I'm on my second and even after putting in replacement lighter gauge springs the lens has started to crack again. i'm just throwing good money after bad,

    • @IvanRossS

      spanishflew same here this lamb cracked in like 1 month. but is still holding on after all this time not as bad as the original one
