    Dave. I refinished the block parquetry floor in my man-cave (rumpus room) a couple of years ago. Months of stripping and sanding and a lot of dust. I used a rotary sander (like a 14" Rotex) with a built-in vacuum cleaner. Here's a tip - keep the sawdust for mixing with filler to match the floor when filling cracks and holes (from drilling and injecting glue under loose timber tiles). The floor finish I used has a water based solvent with low VOC's though the fumes were still hard to take. When I finally finished re-coating (keeping a wet edge) the floor was really flat. Yes it is a bit squeaky but fairly kind to most footwear. But here is my point, beware of fine sawdust, it acts like tiny ball bearings and is very slippery. I hope that is not the case with the epoxy finish on your floor.

    Good job for a first time user of epoxy :) Sanding between coats is a good way of getting a better finish

    Very Nice job David, love the videos. Over the last 20 years I have had so many epoxy spills on the floor that my floors almost look like they are epoxy finished, I just have to wait another 20 years for full coverage :-)

    I used the same product in my workshop but in the light grey colour. I am glad that I chose the grey colour as any small dropped item is highly visible and the light colour seems to reflect light making the shed look like I've upgraded to 5000K LEDs.

      The clear also scratches and dents but you really have to get down to the floor level to notice it. Just standing and looking it is hard to pick due to the polished surface of the concrete.

    How’s your epoxy holding up? I’ve just got mine done, eventually when you have recoat you can go with Polyurea

    I had my garage floor covered with epoxy. It is fantastic. There is no concrete dust, it is easy to clean and it looks great. However, wet feet and shoes ARE a big issue on my epoxy floor. If I had to do over, I would add the anti-slip additive.

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you able to do one more coat with an additive?

    Shiny floors... The arch enemy of Darth in Croc's!
    Croc's have got to be one of the slipperiest forms of footwear that I have ever worn on an even slightly polished surface, including clay pavers on a slight incline.

    I was planning on doing the garage in our brand new house prior to moving in until I found the builders and painters had treated it like a garage and the scraping of paint, grout, mortar and other prep was going to take longer than my time window. Once my shop is built and I move all of my gear out I will have a proper go!

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am happy with the result. It is relatively quick and easy if everything has been well prepared.

    Does the slab have a vapor barrier under it? It will be interesting to see if moisture tries to migrate up from below.
    Did you give any thought to the version that has vinyl flakes broadcast into the wet epoxy?

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there is a vapour barrier below the slab Barry. I considered all the different types of epoxy on offer before making my decision.

    If you watch others using epoxy bubbles are removed when wet with hot air.

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian, because the room is 6 x 6 metres it makes it impossible to get to all of the bubbles whilst the epoxy is still workable but unable to be walked on.

    Hi Dave, My house is very old and the bricks are starting to crumble. Can you use this epoxy on a vertical surface because if you can that would be a perfect solution to my problem

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt it John. It would slump.

  • @eWhizz

    I see other videos where they just pour it all out and then spread it out. Would this result in a better thicker finish?

    Hi Dave , Aaron here.
    How would a floor buffer go on the new epoxy floor ?

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would be a great idea but I have a concern. I don't want to turn it into a too smooth surface. And, as it is my garage the little imperfections will not worry over time as I am sure there will be more everyday wear from just being used.

    • @oscydog100
      @oscydog100 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I suppose it's still just a garage floor and not the Grand Ballroom at a five star hotel 🤣🤣

  • @davewenners6722
    @davewenners6722 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The air bubbles are off gassing, a soiked roller will be needed. My problem with these cheap epoxy products is first the smell, they go on so thin they will not last. Spend the money on a good quality epoxy. Good ones are UV protected. I do this for a living and only use a good quality commercial epoxy.

    Hi Dave it's Aaron again.
    I'm just in the process of transforming my 2 x car garage into a workshop and also a garage for our 2 cars.
    The concrete floor was painted many years ago in beautiful Red colour - Ha Ha
    Any ideas on what process Or hints as I want to re-paint the floor in either a grey or lighter colour?

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Aaron. I am not sure of what the question is? You may want to hire a concrete grinder like I did. You can get different coloured epoxy's from the company that sponsored the product for me to use. Link in the "show more" below the video.

    have seen this professionally done and they use a squeegee instead of a roller.

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different products available Wayne. Some are a flood coat and self level, some are as you suggest and then this method which the company recommended. I used the back of the applicator as a squeegee a few times as well.
