@@RetireandGo Something puzzles me about your health care costs in the U.S. As a military veteran, you should be eligible for V.A. health care. And that's dirt cheap. I paid $15 per visit to my V.A. outpatient clinic, $50 for a specialist visit at the V.A. hospital, and $150 for hospital inpatient care. Would you have access to the same care at the same costs in Hawaii?

Thank you for making this video and explaining it in layman’s terms. I’m Gen X’er and did exactly what you did and I’ve actually doubled my net worth since I left 3.5 years ago and because I’m literally free and have time to travel the world and studying geopolitics, AI and the financial markets and making investments for early retirement. I will share this video with my friends.
Another great video. Looking at the future, making good decisions. Inspiring people to get out of the box, and start thinking for oneself. Thanks for the information and honesty.
You offer a lot of richness in your channel. I completely agree with you. Those factors also motivated to take BOLD action. I have a contract with reality. Aloha my friend, very eye opening content in sunny Pattaya. Thank you for your military service and contracting service. Your 3 points are the reason from me to retire this year. Working 12 hours a day in Boise and the value of the dollar not able to keep up with inflation. I better enjoy my 52 years old self now and in South East Asia. Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia or Vietnam are on my list. $7 steaks and $1 boba coffee tea and $3 chicken kebabs. Yuuumy and good value. Mahalo
Another thoughtful video. When I read about people living paycheck to paycheck or not having anything saved for retirement, I wonder how they expect to survive if they lose their job or when they can't work anymore. Safe travels. Mahalo.
Regarding fears of no health cover while abroad. Interestingly, I believe the reduction in vocational and financial stress, a non-western diet, active lifestyle, will improve your lifespan and health outcomes in which you will not need the expenses of health interventions and medication. Perhaps when you break a hip or something when you're in your 70's you could fly back home to curl up and die but you're getting a chance to really live for 20 years beforehand so you won't feel like you need to defer death and die longer (rather than live longer).
Hey, just came across your channel and find it interesting....good job ! Some constructive criticism perhaps...my wife and I have been all over Thailand. Hello Chris...I am a recent subscriber and I am learning so much about the financial aspects and was planning already to retire to Thailand and you have me thinking in all whole new directions. Aloha, Braddah, do you think we need to open a Thai bank account to pay for rent, utilities, food? I'm debating if I need Promptpay or if I can just use my Chase credit card? Mahalo!
Great video ! Can I suggest you look at the benner cycle and be careful with possible meltdown in stock market worldwide in 2026, likely triggered by US debt crisis or China blockading Taiwan . If possible , watch for signs and liquidate and buy back at 35% to 40% lower as all big crisis. Then you can reap the upside as the markets recover and go to all time high again.
No need to liquidate your positions in your portfolio. Better to buy puts and selling covered calls against your underlying equities. PRC has blocked ROC(Taiwan) for a while, so now it's all about perception.
If this isn’t a wake up call video for a lot of people, nothing is..Went out for a steak dinner last week for 2,including tip and 1 beer each, almost 200$ in Canadian Monopoly money..Forgetaboutit..32 days left till departure for Pattaya..

finally, love seeing the steak and fried shrimp meal! please stay away from those high carb meals...penny wise, pound foolish. health first. but I totally agree with your AI assessment. i have a master's in electrical engineering from Stanford and my technical intuition tells me AI will change the world.
It is refreshing to see an American not dismissive of the national debt. Too many drink the American exceptionalism and reserve currency kool aid. Maths still applies the greatest country on earth.
Hi Chris, very interesting and thought provoking video thank you. Quick question. Do you have private and state pensions kicking in at some point in the future to supplement your dividend income? Would be good to hear a video about those. Thanks and HNY! Cheers
Good question! I don’t even think social security will be there when I’m 62 I’m not planning on it Building my retirement account myself AI is also a wild card we will have to deal with :-)
💯 Great content and tips to retire early. Big Like 👍 One thing I'm trying to figure out is: if AI is taking so many jobs why the big push to bring in more cheap labor with H-1B visas? Just plain corporate - shareholder - greed maybe.
When we were in Iraq, I told my 50 yr old First Sergeant, who was about to retire, "I need to set up my life/retirement to plan for no social security." He looked at me baffled. The paradigm of each generation was so aparent in that moment. Boomers just kept eating the gravy thinking things would continue as they were, population would keep going up. And its hard to blame them, but we still do 😂. Most people think things will just keep going until the rug is pulled from underneath them.
Do you only invest in dividend stocks for an average return of 6%pa?? My son who is a whiz in IT keeps telling me to invest in the Vaneck Semi Conductor ETF. With an annual return for the year 2024 at 38.49% I just might.
Being a US citizen do you get a landing visa ( tourist ) in Thailand, or do you have to jump through hoops to go there? How do you handle stomach issues? You just eat the food and walk around? I am sure my stomach would want to blow up being exposed to all the new bacteria. Even in Taiwan ( super modern country) I had to be careful.
Um I would not call Taiwan superior to Thailand. They have a few Tech companies sure, Thailand is much more open and in tourist areas western food is available
@@lostinasia3685 I said nothing about superior. Western food is everywhere in Taiwan as it is apparently that way in Thailand ( as you say). Taiwan has a 90 day landing (tourist ) visa for US citizens, doubt Thailand is that long.
The big storms for me that make me feel sick to my stomach every day. 1. Tax. I am taxed 45% in my country. 2. Cost of living. I get ahead then boom behind again. Food is out of control expensive and I am eating chicken not steaks etc. 3. I am a business owner ecomm and in my country they just banned social media for under 16s. This likely means all citizens having to log in through the government to use social media. Both parties are in favor of internet restrictions and greater control. They tried to ban cash several times, they just recently tried to being in UK style laws that would jail people for tweets, comments and posts. I am sick of this dystopian nightmare. I am wanting second citizenship and looking to move to SEA to lower taxes. On paper my revenue looks amazing but after cost of living, business expenses and tax I am left with very little. My kid is an adult and he is moving to Asia because he can’t get a job in his field of expertise here. Our Govt klled creative industries here. I can imagine how much I would thrive over there. Which is the last storm - my mental health.
I totally understand and agree I worked hard and still I just fell behind in the US Just barely made it by The heck with that I’m going to go enjoy my life
If you had earned and saved enough to retire comfortably in Hawaii, would you have done that instead of traveling? I'm wondering if the travel is primarily for economics or adventure.
@@randymanchester6993 No, he said in his video that he could not have afforded to retire in Hawaii due to the cost of living. I'm asking, if he could have afforded it, then would he have still traveled. His response was that it would have cost $10K/mo. in Hawaii. Right but my hypothetical assumes he could afford that, then would he have still traveled. They aren't inextricably linked because the premise of the question is that he could have afforded to retire in Hawaii. If it's still not clear, let me know and I will try to restate it.
@nunuvyurbiz123 Yeah I get it, but adventure? You can only travel to certain places even with 10K per month the point is he doesn't want to have to worry about it. Yes, they are linked. "If money were no object" would be a different question.
AGI is great technology but should be limited by government policy. Why? Because many will lose their jobs and income and retirement would be a pipe dream. If AI takes over what are families going to do? Live on a universal basic income? No, not good.
Im in IT management. Its just a matter of time. Im still happily married to a beautiful Vietnamese American woman with 3 grand children. So jetting off to SEA is not an option. Im up against a wall. I make very good money but the cost of living and taxes just scrape the cream right off the top. We are going to have to make massive sacrifices in retirment. We are all worried.
You can do it Chuck! It may look difficult or even impossible at this point, but you can do it. And those grandkids won't stay kids forever. Soon enough they will have friends and be busy with studies or work, and won't spend much time with their grandparents, which is natural. Maybe then it's OK if they only see you guys during the holidays? The rest of the time you can kick back and relax on a beach in Vietnam! But you have to start setting the wheels in motion. Sorry if this post is too personal but the way you described your situation saddened me and I just wanted to encourage you. I myself recently decided to get serious about early retirement. I'm in a similar situation to you and I wish I had done it earlier, but it feels so much better to have a plan that I can execute and track.
@@lars75au Thanks, Lars! We're moving full steam ahead. We have a few rental properties that generate income, which we plan to liquidate during retirement. In addition, we have our 401(k) and dividend portfolios. To be honest, we're counting on Social Security as a key part of our plan-it’s factored in to cover about one-third of our retirement income. We have to factor in if that income stream does not materialize.
@@lars75au Moving to Vietnam at least for a portion of the year would be amazing. My wife actually has expressed interest in traveling to Thailand as well.
Great video! I would add one really important piece to your 3rd point. The US is in decline. All empires eventually collapse (Greek, Roman, British, etc), and we’re just witnessing the end of the American empire. Look to the BRICS nations, if you want to see the future. Keep sharing. Thanks bro!
I guess Hawaii has gotten a lot more expensive than when i lived there because there is nowhere I know of that would honestly charge a $100 for that steak and shrimp meal..it did not look that good. And our debt is insane.. I agree.. we/ the USA do too many things free for other countries and it is at the expense of us tax payers. I love my country but we are really starting to fail in so many ways.. Health and especially education are at the top of our failures. Nobody in the USA actually wants to work anymore. and the list goes on... Would you be willing to tell us how much you initially dumped into your dividend stocks that are supporting you now? i ask because in about 6 years i and my wife will hopefully be in the same boat.. selling it all and starting new elsewhere (hopefully thailand) of course that is dependent upon what all China gets up to as well since they are wanting to start wars with half of SE Asia anymore. Thanks a million

Interesting viewpoint on the impact of your country’s debt on the economy. So when you say you cut your income in half, does that mean your current dividend income is actually twice what you report to your viewers/on this channel in anticipation of future dividend cuts due to ramifications of the debt? I didn’t quite understand that comment. I’m new to your channel and I find your content entertaining even though I may not be your target audience. Hello Chris...I am a recent subscriber and I am learning so much about the financial aspects and was planning already to retire to Thailand and you have me thinking in all whole new directions. Thanks for opening my eyes! It is an epiphany and I realize I must be more honest about the upcoming difficulties I see also on the horizon.

Aloha, Braddah, do you think we need to open a Thai bank account to pay for rent, utilities, food? I'm debating if I need Promptpay or if I can just use my Chase credit card? Mahalo!
Hmmm I use an online bank for everything
But if you are moving permanently then perhaps
Great video ! Can I suggest you look at the benner cycle and be careful with possible meltdown in stock market worldwide in 2026, likely triggered by US debt crisis or China blockading Taiwan . If possible , watch for signs and liquidate and buy back at 35% to 40% lower as all big crisis. Then you can reap the upside as the markets recover and go to all time high again.
Hi good comment I am also concerned about this
I appreciate this thank you :-)
No need to liquidate your positions in your portfolio. Better to buy puts and selling covered calls against your underlying equities. PRC has blocked ROC(Taiwan) for a while, so now it's all about perception.
You mentioned being a veteran in previous videos. Have you looked into VA health coverage?
Oh yes
We should all make sure we get signed up at the VA
Hi Chris have you sold your house in Hawaii or do you rent that out? many thanks

Hi Chris, very interesting and thought provoking video thank you. Quick question. Do you have private and state pensions kicking in at some point in the future to supplement your dividend income? Would be good to hear a video about those. Thanks and HNY! Cheers
Good question!
I don’t even think social security will be there when I’m 62
I’m not planning on it
Building my retirement account myself
AI is also a wild card we will have to deal with :-)
New Shirt? Or has it just faded.
Probably faded
It’s about 6 months old now
💯 Great content and tips to retire early. Big Like 👍
One thing I'm trying to figure out is: if AI is taking so many jobs why the big push to bring in more cheap labor with H-1B visas?
Just plain corporate - shareholder - greed maybe.
I understand your thoughts for sure
Are we even aware how AI will disrupt yet? It’s such a wild card
I agree with you
Now the talk is to push SS to 68
This is happening in Europe all ready
We need to build our own retirement
What video camera do you use?
iPhone pro max
Incredible suite of cameras.
Do you only invest in dividend stocks for an average return of 6%pa?? My son who is a whiz in IT keeps telling me to invest in the Vaneck Semi Conductor ETF. With an annual return for the year 2024 at 38.49% I just might.
Nice!
I have a separate growth account in big tech
It’s been growing for years
Wild ride though haha
Being a US citizen do you get a landing visa ( tourist ) in Thailand, or do you have to jump through hoops to go there? How do you handle stomach issues? You just eat the food and walk around? I am sure my stomach would want to blow up being exposed to all the new bacteria. Even in Taiwan ( super modern country) I had to be careful.
Um I would not call Taiwan superior to Thailand.
They have a few Tech companies sure, Thailand is much more open and in tourist areas western food is available
I use visitor visas for now as I change countries often for channel variety
But there are some good long visas
There lots of healthy choices at The Land of Smiles. I actually learned to cook at the Philippines.
Mabuhay
@@lostinasia3685 I said nothing about superior. Western food is everywhere in Taiwan as it is apparently that way in Thailand ( as you say). Taiwan has a 90 day landing (tourist ) visa for US citizens, doubt Thailand is that long.
@@rafaelcastillo2636 Thank you.

Just barely made it by

If you had earned and saved enough to retire comfortably in Hawaii, would you have done that instead of traveling? I'm wondering if the travel is primarily for economics or adventure.
Oh my
I can only imagine how much would be needed for that
$10,000 a month maybe
@@RetireandGo You didn't answer my question though!
@@nunuvyurbiz123 I think he did. They are inextricably linked. I don't think many of us could be 'adventurous' with a 10k/month price tag.

@@RetireandGo I'm really enjoying your content. I get to live vicariously through your experiences. Man that steak dinner looked good. Hahaha.

Oh my it’s quite pricey now

Interesting viewpoint on the impact of your country’s debt on the economy. So when you say you cut your income in half, does that mean your current dividend income is actually twice what you report to your viewers/on this channel in anticipation of future dividend cuts due to ramifications of the debt? I didn’t quite understand that comment.
