Yeah, let's get something straight. I understand concern for avoiding civilian collateral when the hostile is only engaging military targets, but the moment the hostile begins to cause civilian casualties, whether unintentional or intentional, any cause for holding fire is null and void. If your target has shown that they're willing to fire on civilians, the possible collateral you risk by taking him out over a populated area is far outweighed by the damage he could cause on his own with 2-4 missiles and a cannon. The faster you splash the bastard, the better.

A bit of inaccuracies here: when the mig29 shot at the wing of the f15, half of the wing should have came off. The 30mm autocannon have a variety of high explosive and incendiary ammunition that should severely damage the F15, not just drill a few holes. But hey, it’s still very enjoyable.

I believe that in a real life situation the North Korean pilot wouldn't be able to do such maneuvers because the North Korean military training is horrible.
MiG-29 is supposedly the latest in aircraft tech that North Korea has. I don't think their pilots are skilled, but I wouldn't try underestimating them just in case.
Realistically speaking any aircraft that crosses the DMZ to SK would have been tracked by 20+ SAM's. Also after the initial engagement any if all available jets will airborne and hunting the MiG-29. The "Do not engage" is total BS and you know why. Also, the navy will launch a coordinated missile strikes on key NK targets whilst Fighters clear the skies above NK. Also the dogfight took too long in which by that time, (realistically) about 3 or 5 more jets would have shown up and promptly shot the Enemy jet down.
I actually wouldn't be so sure. For the past 20 years, the North Koreans have been crossing the Northern Limit Line (the maritime extension of the DMZ) to attack South Korean ships and islands. Most of the time, the ROK military could not retaliate for sometimes up to half an hour (because they needed permission from the South Korean President.) I think the last ROK President gave military commanders the authority to retaliate independently without Presidential authorization, but that provision may have been rescinded as a part of the current peace process.

I have some questions. 1: how long was the mig pilot planning on staying south of the border (fuel concerns being what they are in the DPRK and all)? 2: What is the distance between the city limits (just the northern part) and the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas? 3: Why was everyone looking at the stricken F-15 get driven into the ground like a tent stake instead of engaging the mig once it was past the city limits (I'll happily retract and/or rephrase question 3 depending on the answer to question 1). 4: What happened to those quarterly reports due on the boss's desk by Thursday that the mig carelessly just scattered all over the office with it's thrust? 5: Were there any disciplinary consequences dropped on the mig pilot for loitering over Seoul and doing a little sight seeing? 5.5 a: They were over Seoul right? 5.5 b: That was the city they were over, of which they couldn't fire upon the enemy mig, that is in clear violation of South Korean airspace, because it's limits apparently extend all the way to the demilitarized zone?...5.5 c: right? I haven't looked at a map of Korea recently but the last time I did, well either the demilitarized zone migrated south for the winter or Seoul under went a massive expansion northwards. 6: Did anybody vow revenge on the mig pilot? 7: Did anyone in operations keep their jobs? 7.5 a: Did they have to take a "refresher course" in reading and understanding what all those weird little lines, marks and symbols are on maps? 8: Did the investigation into why that pilot didn't eject reveal the reason was that the pilot wouldn't fly unless he had his lucky ejection seat jammer hammer shoved in a spot disabling ejection or that in his diary he jotted down how much he hates his life and "some day I'll take off but never land, that'll teach the cheating whore" written 79 times? Some entries written in blood.
About 6, I can tell you that they did vow revenge on the MiG pilot (and more as a matter of fact) as they later shot him down and bombarded a North Korean military base

Exciting (albeit somewhat unrealistic), but sad because of SK air defense did not want them to shoot down the NK MiG over civilian population, the MiG went on a rampage in the Seoul, killing and injuring people and shot down a SK F15 as well. Hi Neth. I've been in this neck of the woods. Fact of the matter is if the ROK activated its air defenses, probably both of those planes would have been shot down shortly after entering ROK airspace and it is also likely more than a few planes might have been airborne (and not just ROKs) BEFORE they crossed the DMZ on intercept. That sort of nonsense (NK aircraft playing around the DMZ) happens more than most people know, and it pretty much always draws a defensive response of some type. Someone was indeed engaged in a long coffee break on this one. Or drank too much coffee. ;)

I just wanna say something in response to it, American aircraft are also pretty fuckin robust too. In 1983, an F15 had nearly it's entire right wing sheered off in a collision and still lflew back to base (1983 Negev mid-air collision), which pretty much proves an F-15 can fly like a rocket when travelling at the right speed. Then there is the A-10 which designed to fly when only half of the aircraft is working as intended. Thats a couple examples out of many aircraft the US designed.

The F15 would have won not by being better jets but by having better ECM, air superiority, radar and supression in this scenario. BTW an indian MiG 21 just shoot down a pak F16 weeks ago. And MiG 29 has quite better avionics and visual range combat capabilities than the F15 so it would probably win in an unlikely 1vs1 dogfight.

so I just confirmed this scene with a real pilot, and he says that all of these maneuvers are very possible if the pilot has enough experience and skill. Though he was quick to point out that if these pilots were this skilled at flying, those shots to the wing and engine at the end wouldn't have caused them to crash. If the wing came off completely then it would have been more believable but even commercial pilots are taught to fly without any engines, broken wings, and decompression issues in both the cockpit and cabin (not all at once).

Only the stunts that the planes perform in terms of angle, speed, etc. also, it's worth noting that North Korea's military is out-dated and their planes could be 40-60 years old at this point so for them to not use radar is possible for this scene.

I'm going off of the information from a commercial pilot who doesn't have to use radar the entire time and is able to see out of the windows 95% of the time. If you are a pilot who flies jets like these then you probably know more about the inner workings than I do. I was only referring to the flight maneuvers like flying around the buildings, gaining altitude so quickly, or commercial laws that pilots have to follow including flying over the rivers in big cities or otherwise densely populated areas. The laws may be different for fighter jets. I don't know, and again, I'm not an expert. I just consulted one for the feasibility of the flying itself. Not the radar or the visibility.
Even very outdated aircraft like the MiG-21 has radar, it’s outdated radar, but the North isn’t a WWII era country (though they have biplanes for stealth insertions employed by the NKSOF)

Realistically speaking any aircraft that crosses the DMZ to SK would have been tracked by 20+ SAM's.
Also after the initial engagement any if all available jets will airborne and hunting the MiG-29.
The "Do not engage" is total BS and you know why.

Also the dogfight took too long in which by that time, (realistically) about 3 or 5 more jets would have shown up and promptly shot the Enemy jet down.
I actually wouldn't be so sure. For the past 20 years, the North Koreans have been crossing the Northern Limit Line (the maritime extension of the DMZ) to attack South Korean ships and islands. Most of the time, the ROK military could not retaliate for sometimes up to half an hour (because they needed permission from the South Korean President.)
I think the last ROK President gave military commanders the authority to retaliate independently without Presidential authorization, but that provision may have been rescinded as a part of the current peace process.
The 63 building alone would have been sufficient to take down all the migs, the S400 and Igla-M missiles that were there at that time.
So an all-out Korean War 2 would start? What a fucking mess...

I have some questions. 1: how long was the mig pilot planning on staying south of the border (fuel concerns being what they are in the DPRK and all)? 2: What is the distance between the city limits (just the northern part) and the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas? 3: Why was everyone looking at the stricken F-15 get driven into the ground like a tent stake instead of engaging the mig once it was past the city limits (I'll happily retract and/or rephrase question 3 depending on the answer to question 1). 4: What happened to those quarterly reports due on the boss's desk by Thursday that the mig carelessly just scattered all over the office with it's thrust? 5: Were there any disciplinary consequences dropped on the mig pilot for loitering over Seoul and doing a little sight seeing? 5.5 a: They were over Seoul right? 5.5 b: That was the city they were over, of which they couldn't fire upon the enemy mig, that is in clear violation of South Korean airspace, because it's limits apparently extend all the way to the demilitarized zone?...5.5 c: right? In my experience the Americans have always tried to avoid dogfaith and preferring long-range combat, the Soviet school has always given great importance to the dogfaith, in fact we have witnessed the clash of these two schools in Vietnam war (where many American pilots were at a disadvantage because they had no experience in dogfaith ).

Hi Neth. I've been in this neck of the woods. Fact of the matter is if the ROK activated its air defenses, probably both of those planes would have been shot down shortly after entering ROK airspace and it is also likely more than a few planes might have been airborne (and not just ROKs) BEFORE they crossed the DMZ on intercept. That sort of nonsense (NK aircraft playing around the DMZ) happens more than most people know, and it pretty much always draws a defensive response of some type. Someone was indeed engaged in a long coffee break on this one. Or drank too much coffee. ;)

I just wanna say something in response to it, American aircraft are also pretty fuckin robust too.
In 1983, an F15 had nearly it's entire right wing sheered off in a collision and still lflew back to base (1983 Negev mid-air collision), which pretty much proves an F-15 can fly like a rocket when travelling at the right speed.
Then there is the A-10 which designed to fly when only half of the aircraft is working as intended.

The F15 would have won not by being better jets but by having better ECM, air superiority, radar and supression in this scenario. BTW an indian MiG 21 just shoot down a pak F16 weeks ago. And MiG 29 has quite better avionics and visual range combat capabilities than the F15 so it would probably win in an unlikely 1vs1 dogfight.

so I just confirmed this scene with a real pilot, and he says that all of these maneuvers are very possible if the pilot has enough experience and skill. Though he was quick to point out that if these pilots were this skilled at flying, those shots to the wing and engine at the end wouldn't have caused them to crash. If the wing came off completely then it would have been more believable but even commercial pilots are taught to fly without any engines, broken wings, and decompression issues in both the cockpit and cabin (not all at once).

If you are a pilot who flies jets like these then you probably know more about the inner workings than I do. I was only referring to the flight maneuvers like flying around the buildings, gaining altitude so quickly, or commercial laws that pilots have to follow including flying over the rivers in big cities or otherwise densely populated areas. The laws may be different for fighter jets. I don't know, and again, I'm not an expert. I just consulted one for the feasibility of the flying itself. Not the radar or the visibility.
Even very outdated aircraft like the MiG-21 has radar, it’s outdated radar, but the North isn’t a WWII era country (though they have biplanes for stealth insertions employed by the NKSOF)
