Isayama built his characters with personalities and cultural traits from different countries, then took surnames related to them when he can and when it fit well, but not necessarily. For example Ackermann, it's common in France too, in the eastern part of the country, in Alsace-Moselle for example (but not only). My college teacher had the name Ackermann too
and man he just say it in a fan interview, that's how these videos with nationalities characters are made. Isayama say what they would be in real world (sorry for my bad english)

Like their grandparents could’ve been siblings or cousins and Mikasa’s parents mixed with Asian because Mikasa is mixed because the Ackermans are white for the most part. If you remember in one episode or chapter when they lady told Mikasa that she was from Royal lineage or something to that extent in their country but Mikasa didn’t care about that she wanted to be by Eren.
