    I bought this lens about a year ago under a different brand name. It was sold as a cctv lens for apsc mirrorless cameras. . Was much less than 70 dollars but you needed an adaptor to its c mount . This review is very accurate. The edges and the center are not in the same focusing plane. Focus peaking shows how the edges sharpen while the center gets blurred. Its interesting . I shot some really nice artsy pictures using this lens. I definitely recommend it.

      Are you sure you're not confusing this with the CCTV Fujian 35mm 1.6 lens? They are completely different lenses. The CCTV lens is less than 30 bucks.

    I wonder if the lack of field curvature correction is the main reason why the lens has such little barrel distortion.

    This is just a rehousing of a CCTV lens, you can find a 35mm f/1.6 C mount for arround 13€ plus 2€ for the C mount to e mount adapter on aliexpress. I bought the 25mm f/1.8 cctv lens (7 artisans also have a rehousing of that lens, but 60€ more expensive) and it's quite similar. For the price, if you like the style that gives, it's a nice deal

    • @laigager1006
      @laigager1006 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree that this lens is just a rehoused cctv lens. The focusing problem of this lens is similar to cctv lens

      Nah this is a different lens than the 7 artistian one. Different optical formula

    • @FelipeTorrents

      I have the cctv fujian 35mm f1.7 and it's field curvature is out of this world compared to this pergear lens. It's so extreme that the focus plane changes when you open\close the aperture. This clearly is Pergear's own design and looks way superior.

    I really like how you occasionally also show lesser-known and slightly quirky lenses like this one! I think you've got a good variety of lenses on your channel and great reviews!
    I have never experience field curvature first hand and don't have a feel for how it behaves, but wouldn't the effect of field curvature depend on the distance to the flatt object. I'm assuming it's only affected by aperture indirectly through the change in depth of field. If this is the case, couldn't you get away with larger apertures than f/11 for flatt objects far away, since the distance also increases the depth of field?
    I find this lens very interesting since the optical compromise seems to complement each other in certain cases. For subject photography it might increase the subject separation by increasing the background blur slightly. For landscape photography you might not want to capture images wide open anyway, so field curvature might be a more workable optical flaw.

    Pros: 70 bucks, small, solid, comes with a lens hood, no distortion, sharp in middle (and in corners when focused there), nice OOF areas.
    Cons: declicked aperture, slightly heavy focus throw, field curvature, flare.
    Been trying this lens out and it's great! IMO it blows the likes of meike and 7artisans out of the water in terms of overall quality.

  • @alantuttphotography
    @alantuttphotography 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regarding the field curvature -- are the edges focused closer than the middle, or further away? If closer, then I can see some cases where this might be useful. Same with the flaring. If that's the look you want, then this is a great lens for that.

    So I just rewatched your Meike lens review and I was wondering which you would prefer if you had to make a choice. Seems like the Meike has worse (but even) peak sharpness, more distortion and vignetting, and worse LL performance. Meike for landscape and this one for subject?

      No, the KamLan is 21/1.8 districtly different than the Zonlai. You can see it on KamLan's website.
      You can also see a few shots on Flickr. I'd be curious to watch your take. I find its 0.12 minimum focus distance to be very unique for a small wide-angle lens.

    Good review, and mine both 25 ane 35 Pergear are going back to Amazon.For that money Pergear should learn how to make focus ring helicoil without play in it. Mine both two copy suffer from focus play only when you turning clockwise. Other direction has no play.Other thing is that non of them is f1.6 or f1.8. They are about 1.9 and 2.2 or somewhere there. All in all if you want manual lens go for some vintage glass.You will get for same or less money better build and output.

    You should get a more professional test map when testing the sharpness. Even when you say the lens is razer sharp, it doesn't look so sharp. It looks like the test card you are using is printed on a sheet of paper. I have seen others use more professional test maps, and then you see the difference in sharpness significantly better. So a professional more detailed test map would make a big difference. Otherwise, your clips are really good :)

      The test chart is about 1.5 meters wide, is a 100mp (approx) image, printed at the highest resolution at the highest quality, on a sheet of metal, at high cost, so there's no distortion. There's simply no way it could be any higher quality.

    I don't know what Pergear is getting wrong in their lenses in order to get such awful flares. It happens the same with their 25mm 1.8 and I don't think it's the coating to blame for this (even an old Jupiter-12 with a dubious 1950s Russian coating can handle flares wonderful compared to this mess. I suspect they made an error designing these lenses by making some type of internal surface in the lens reflect an excess of light and bouncing around.

      That's not the point and the Fujinon 35mm f1.4 is excellent and so is the f2 version. This guy works like a time machine that sends you back to the 50s. It'll be fun on my X-E3 😊

      Sigma 30 1.4 doesn't produce sharp corners even u put the field curvature in consideration. I think this lens is very useful for portrait. We always want the eyes sharp and other parts blurry
