sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost the password. I love any tricks you can give me!
@Finnley Deacon thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Man this video inspires me to get back into backpacking...great demenour, positive attitude, and love of life is conveyed in this video....great info too...thank you!
Yes, those are moose vertebrae! I was on a Moosewatch expedition on Isle Royale, MI, in May. Our objective was to hike off trail in search of moose bones. We found two moose carcasses, so now I know them when I see them. Thanks for taking us along on this cold, windy, but great trip, Shug!
The vibrant colors of the ground cover behind Alex at 2:19 really lit up my screen. Beautiful mosaic of yellows and greens freckled with autumn browns.
Hey there Shug. Because of your video, I went and hiked the Sioux Hustler Trail this past weekend. It is everything you described and more. That is one beautiful trail that more people should go see. Thank-You for shooting your videos, they give me ideas on where to go hiking. Keep up the good work. Cory
Great trip, Shug! Thanks for taking us! Can't wait to get out with that lil chill in the air and colors on the leaves!....Aaaaaaaaand thanks to you, I finally watched Sling Blade in its entirety. Darn good flick, and I would have never watched it if not for you. You inspire in all you do!
What a lucky man you must be to live in a land of such beautiful places. I have to leave Germany and move to Minnesota immediately. What a beautiful nature!! Just carry on! Wowbagger
Great video, Shug !!! That's a good videos with look at the scenery, and trip you look like you enjoyed everything but the cold.. But that all part of it. Thanks for sharing...!!!!
Thanks for the video. It got me out this weekend (April 30th, 2016) to just hike out to the cascades, spend the night and hike back. Being spring, the water was really flowing. All of the rocks that you showed had water pouring over them. Having gone in the fall, you only got to see a trickle. On the other hand, you probably didn't have to walk through 50 mud holes.
Loved the vid! I've hiked hundreds of miles in Northern Minnesota and the trail crews are amazing!!!! Thank you for recognizing them, they don't get enough credit for sure!
Thanks for sharing your hiking adventures with us. I always enjoy watching you have a good time. I'll be looking forward to your next adventure. Thanks for all the hard work you put into making the videos for us!
Man that looks like a fine trip. BEAUTIFUL TRAIL pal ... really fine. That Alex is hard core hiking in Drover boots!! Dang I'd be all crippled up trying that! Loved the Moose bone juggling! Thanks for sharing pal ... just what a feller needs to see if he can't get out himself!
Looks like another great trip in a very amazing place. Thanks for sharing it. I was at the end of the Gunflint Trail last week canoeing on Seagull, Alpine, and Ogish Lakes while you were hiking. A very beautiful time of year up there. On the way up, we stopped at Judy's Cafe in Two Harbors (you stopped there in one of your other videos) and had an amazing breakfast. Thanks for the recommendations for places to go. Looking to add the Sioux Hustler Trail to the short list of things.
Shug I was in BWCAW this past Sunday through Saturday in all that snow and wind. We paddled from Mudro north into Canada near Friday Bay on Crooked Lake then down Crooked and Basswood back to Mudro. The low was 30, we had wind and rain on Sunday-Wednesday with snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sun on Thur and Friday though. What a great paddle in the Fall in Ely! Should have met up! Its a two day drove for us from the Smokies here in Tennessee.
Great trip Shug, thanks for taking an old man along. I've done my share of trail work, cutting out blow downs. We used horses and mules to pack the tools in, but the back packers sure appreciate it.
Looks like a beautifull trail. Great hike thanks for taking us along. Hope to get out to the Little Garnd Canyon of PA for some BPing & hammock hanging in early November. Can't wait!
i really enjoyed this trail video. i can't wait to find some time to watch a few more of yours. I went to bwca back around 1996/96 with my loving uncle, who passed away about five years ago. He also took me to Zaleski State Forest in Ohio where I live. i also went with him to Glacier, Yellowstone, and RMNP. This video eagerly makes me wanna hit the #trails again in honor of my uncle. you are funny too btw. thanku for sharing. i just subscribed.
So in the last week or so my little one has been able to watch some Shug vids. We are getting ready to section hike the AT. She can't seem to go to bed without checking out some Shug vids. Very entertaining! Keep it up!
Darn Shug, I'm living vicariously through you lately and I'll tell you what it is giving me the bug! It's highs of 80's still here in Texas, waiting for those chilly temps still but I'll get my ass out soon. Like i said before man, great camera work, really loving these recent videos. Happy trails Shug.
***** Definitely was a great time. Since there was only two of us it made it very interesting finding the trail, Had do the old have one guy sit and wait while the other guy fanned out desperately looking for anything that made us know there was a trail. Between the loon/heritage portage to Pageant It took us about four hours. I think that made it better though, what we attain too easily we esteem too lightly and what not right?
Thanks for sharing Shug! I can't tell you how much I have learned from watching your clips. All your tips and a lot of trial and error are all culminating in a thru-hike of the AT next year. Thanks again...hanger for life!
I am of the opinion that every hiker needs to do "AT LEAST ONE TRAIL MAINTANANCE TRIP EVERY 22 MONTHS" the Trail keeper guys are the unsung heros of every great hiking trip.....
super video!..i have been down the Little Sioux many times since the 1980's on my way to LaCroix and i always wondered what it was like back in the woods. except for the portage trails and some short walks around the forest in the camp sites a canoe tripper has no idea what it's like away from the shore line. thanks for the look!
Great video, just getting around to watching this one. Great work keeping up with your younger companions. You are my hero! I doubt their combined ages comes close to your over half century on this great world of ours.
Lovin' the camera work on this and other video -- where I especially like the ground-level fly-overs...really magical tundra down near the forest floor and the mushrooms. So cool to see these things close up.
Wow. That is some sure- enough fine woods to hike through. The scenery looks awesome. I could tell the wind was a howling. The vid went by quick tho. Keep up the great vids.
Shug, you would be a blast to go camping with man. Great humor and knowledge and your vids are always entertaining as well. Keep cranking them out man. You have a new fan buddy!
You sure moved from summer to winter like weather quickly. Wow! Looks like it was a great trip. I especially like the shots where the camera was just skimming the ground. I hope you won't mind if I try that, when I get a video camera that is. Cheers, b.
Alex sometimes looks at Shug like he's a rack of lawn tools at Sears...lol. They're lucky to have you around man! I kinda felt like I was along for the ride on that one. Great stuff!
Hi Shug, I'm watching this video again and it occurred to me as you were talking about your hiking poles and how cold it was that carbon fiber hiking poles don't feel as cold as the metal ones. I bought a pair of carbon fiber poles from CostCo about a year ago for $30. They have flip locks and are very similar to the Black Diamond carbon fiber poles from REI which cost $160, probably made in the same factory in China. Don't know if they still have them because so much of their stuff is seasonal, but I've had good luck with them.
Excellent video Shug! I know where I grew up in Michigan they have Rolos, love those things. Looks like you had a great time. You should post a "whats in my pack" video for this trip. I'd love to see what clothes you brought for the shoulder season in Northern Minnesota.
Hickery!? I know what that means...LINVILLE GORGE! I look forward to another trail report video from the Hickery Brothers. Take your time on that "whats in my pack" video. No need to rush for lil 'ol me :)
Shug, I ordered 3 Packit Gourmets for a 4 day 3 night outing. I got the Market Pasta Puttanesca, Texas State Fair Chili, and the Bangers and Mash. Ate the Puttanesca the first night, very good. The Bangers and Mash the second night, amazingly good. Never got around to the Chili, caught some bass that night. Thanks for suggesting them to me. I live about 45 mins away from the Packit Gourmet factory/warehouse/office in Austin. Too bad they don't sell them there.
***** I'm also a huge fan of Packit Gourmet. I know you like sweets Shug, so I'm wondering what's your favorite Packit Gourmet desserts? Mine are Pumpkin Cheesecake and Banana Pudding...in that order.
I like it! I kept thinking about how that one would be good to hit before I'm 6 feet under. You think in the summer there are loons calling out there? Loved all the moss and the fairy goodness of that trail. Sioux Hustler is the stuff! All secure
Another outstanding video from the piney woods! Was hoping I would get a notification about a new Shug camping video soon and here she is! I recently uploaded a video from a weekend trip on the Appalachian Trail and I threw some Whooooo Buddies in there for you, Shug, I couldnt help myself, hope you get a chance to check it out! Thanks for being you. Maryland loves Shug!
Another great vid, thanks Shug. I'm headed to the Foothills Trail in South Carolina soon, you should check it out. How does Alex manage to walk comfortably in those boots? We call them s*** kickers around here!
Another fine viewing of an excellent looking walk through the woods. Reckon I'll have to get myself up there to the BWCA one of these days soon... I'm thinking you should have this vid classfied "Top Secret" as you're giving away all the secrets sector 7 has to offer. Before you know it, the area will be overrun with flat landers and gasp, Michiganders. It'll be chaos. There'll be anarchy on the trail. :-)
Shug, you have done it again! I had a plan even did a bunch of research. After watching your vids and the nagging thought of not being satisfied till I had one of my own. I bought a cuben fiber tarp with doors from Hammock Gear.
I can't wait for the next video, very entertaining and informational, I'm hooked. The wind would have been tough to take though. Wind, 35 deg. and some humidity and my teeth start chattering. A small piece of open cell foam over the mic should help with the wind buffeting the mic.
Joe Treat I do have a piece to put over but it never will stay on as I carry my camera in a leg pocket and it always detaches when I grab it. It was soooo windy.
Rolo hot chocolate?? And none in the US??? Angry emails need to be sent!! Looked like a fun trip.. =) I saw some trail volunteers one time taking a break. I went up and thanked them for all their hard work maintaining the trails for us. When I see people litter... I wanna rocket punch them in the face. Thanks for the video
Cool, I just got my WBBB lefty in the mail a few days ago. Had to have the lefty! Tried the spam singles on my last trip... just don't think we were made for eachother! Thanks for the vid!
Great adventure Shug! Looked like a great trail! The new War bonnet looks like a great hammock to. I wonder how long each Portage was? Thanks for sharing!
fun video to watch just beautiful scenery. I want to know where you get your quilted skull caps I have searched the web and must not be putting together proper phrase. Thanks so much.
Holy Jeez. I just HAPPENED to check shugemery Channel just in case he's posted a trip this week. Whooooo Buddyyyy!! Eleven minutes ago. It was meant to be. I was meant to watch this video and I'm going to. Right now. Whoo buddy.
I've done a lot of backyard camping in my Warbonnet XLC and had it out on the trail a couple of times. Next week I'll try it with the winter cover. I'm concerned about condensation so I might be poking the head out. Our ellevation is a bit more than yours. We'll be between (depending on where we are going) 5,000-9,000 feet in either central washington or northeast Oregon. Looking at single digit night temps. Should be good.
I appreciated the comments near the end regarding the cairrrrns and saw'd logs. I'm thinking of hiking the trail solo this autumn...Did y'all encounter any moments whereby your path wasn't certain?
My good friend and I are doing a 3 night 4 day hiking trip on the souix hustler trail starting Thursday Sept 22. Any camp sites you would recommend? We have both been to the bwca a bunch of times. This will be our first trip on the souix hustler trail. Going to be at the trail head EARLY!!
All the really good sites are on the east side of the loop and I think all are really good sites. Roll on and have fun. Keep in mind it is a 7 mile spur trail in up to the loop.
Man that's some nice country up there. I liked the longer video, and was that a new camera? It looked sharper and the sound seemed clearer. Glad you guys still had fun in the cold, wet weather. It looked like a blast!
Always fun videos w/ great experiences, footage, beautiful scenery, and great commentary. Question, do you carry a firearm in the woods for 4 and 2 legged critters?
I add to comments. Your videos draw me in as though I were there. Especially since I once spent 6 months in the BWCA and Quetico. Thank you!!!
Thankee. So peaceful up there. Especially weekdays.
Shug my friend you really have a nack for making your viewer's feel like we are there with you, thanks for taking us along.
Overgrown That tickles me to hear that.
sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?

@Finnley Deacon thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now.

@Finnley Deacon it worked and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!

Shug seems like a good person so it definitely helps relay that message.

Hiking, hammocking, camping, deer legs, blue collar varmints and gorgeous scenery! Excellent video, Shug! :)
boggycreekbeast It was a backwoods treat.

The vibrant colors of the ground cover behind Alex at 2:19 really lit up my screen. Beautiful mosaic of yellows and greens freckled with autumn browns.

I did that in September before about half of those blowdowns were cut, Talk about a great work out! Awesome to see this in video form.
Brock Jenkins Bet that was a tough go. Awesome trail for sure.

That would have been great getting somewhere absent of manmade sounds. Awesome hike Shug
Pawoodsman So true.....
Rolo hot chocolate?? And none in the US??? Angry emails need to be sent!!
Looked like a fun trip.. =)
I saw some trail volunteers one time taking a break. I went up and thanked them for all their hard work maintaining the trails for us. When I see people litter... I wanna rocket punch them in the face.
Thanks for the video
Going to Linville for the first time on the 19th for a week. Looking forward to it.
***** You are gonna love it! Stay vigilant.

TomsBackwoods Some were mighty long...with ups and downs. Tough.

Holy Jeez. I just HAPPENED to check shugemery Channel just in case he's posted a trip this week. Whooooo Buddyyyy!! Eleven minutes ago. It was meant to be. I was meant to watch this video and I'm going to. Right now.
Whoo buddy.
morning beaver is my favorite
I've done a lot of backyard camping in my Warbonnet XLC and had it out on the trail a couple of times. Next week I'll try it with the winter cover. I'm concerned about condensation so I might be poking the head out.
Our ellevation is a bit more than yours. We'll be between (depending on where we are going) 5,000-9,000 feet in either central washington or northeast Oregon. Looking at single digit night temps. Should be good.
***** I always get moisture with a cover.....bug net is a bit better for me. Enjoy that XLC.
INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED ROLOS AT WALGREENS $4.19 A BAG always love yopur videos, thanks.
markglist Yeah! Thankee......
markglist Diabeters.
I appreciated the comments near the end regarding the cairrrrns and saw'd logs. I'm thinking of hiking the trail solo this autumn...Did y'all encounter any moments whereby your path wasn't certain?
+crazycarlsju Take a good map for sure. Not many trails up there but it does cross portages.
I have 2 BWCA videos and just posted version two just a few hours ago....I miss the BWCA your video makes me want to go back so badly!
+Zoltoks Yeah....the BWCA is a right goodie for sure.
+shugemery recommendation for a spring hike, April?
+JohnandKatrina Doolittle It could be icy and really muddy in April. Still snow as well. Reckon it depends on how bad you want it.
+shugemery maybe the superior would be a better option.

Ian Young Thankee. Same camera as always...my trusty ol' Canon ELPH 110 HS.
You make me feel happy :)
Julie Drake For that....I am happy.
Always fun videos w/ great experiences, footage, beautiful scenery, and great commentary. Question, do you carry a firearm in the woods for 4 and 2 legged critters?
pr4runner No I don't.....got a knife and my wits. Gotten through 56 years with just those. My Dad would not even get me a BB gun))))))
