incredible footage , the 70' was the golden age of football , yougs fans today can't imaginé the feeling at this time , sell out crowd , british players, low Price tickets , no live games , and more important the passion of the fa cup . good Old days . LEEDS LEEDS LEEDS
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my password. I love any tips you can offer me.
As a City fan loving this series on Leeds. Some great games between City and Leeds. Still maintain that Joe Corrigan's save v Alan Clarke one of the best ever
Brilliant film. Thanks for uploading. The police officer seemed proud that there were only 96 arrests. An inordinate number if the arrests were made in modern day football but de rigeur for the 1970s....
A great series of videos. As a 19 year old student City fan I was at the Boxing Day game when we won 2-0 and at the Cup game when we lost to Trevor Cherry's goal. Both hard fought games with a great atmosphere. For the Cup game my friends and I had tickets for the Leeds side of the Lowfield's Stand. Despite wearing City colours the Police wouldn't let us go in the City section so we had to go through the home turnstiles then climb over the internal dividing fence to get into the City section. I caught my obligatory 1970's flared turnups on the fence and fell flat on my face sporting a bloody nose for my troubles. I also recollect at least one half brick coming over the open corner of the Lowfield into the City fans from outside the ground. Whilst I'm glad I experienced football in the days of the terraces I thank God as 67 year old City season ticket holder times have changed and there isn't such an air of violence at todays football matches.
Amazing old footage. I miss those days so much. I was at the boxing day game when City beat us 2-0. They seemed to have the upper hand on us around that time. Huge result beating them in the cup & the best YNWA I ever saw at ER. Many thanks
It's amazing how much footage West Yorkshire police filmed at this time but it's an amazing record of the late 70's feel. If you look on BFI.org there's more. Some of it with sound and some silent but all fascinating.
warriers theme, ha, great stuff.i did my hooligan service between 1974 and 1977, im nearly 60 now and i sometimes try to explain what it was like going to football home and away with your mates.the most amazing thing is that everybody was a hooligan and you stuck together no matter what.
I love these old school videos when football was for the working man not like now 😥who ever posted them niceone i didn't start watching City til the late the late 80's so this is a bit before my time i used to love standing on the kippax happy days
Fantastic atmosphere, I was caught up in a crush on the Lowfields Road stand and ended up sat against the advertising hoardings after Trevor Cherry scored.
Great archive footage of before and after the match. The footage of the two fellas being frog marched up the road under arrest (7.30) is of my Uncles, Eddie Wheeler (with the beard) and his younger brother Kenny behind him. They always complained they'd done nothing wrong but you can guarantee they were talking when they should've been listening.
It's funny really as I always had a soft spot for Leeds even though some of their support was rather dubious to a young black kid from Stretford! I was ten when this game was played and remember it well! A few years later, a lad I know from Stretford joined Leeds and loads of City and United fans, that I know, would watch Leeds just to see John Sheridan! True story!
That sergeant must have been a Leeds Utd supporter..."don`t bloody move or I`ll thump ya".....classic...just as I remember it as a young man in the early to late 60s, could not say that now.
I was there in the Geldard end wen we played with City 😂...40 years later all i can say is Respect to the City fans an what great times on and off the pitch both sets of fans had
I've always perceived man city to be Manchester's "real" club, always had a soft spot for em & I used to love going to Maine road sadly football is a corporate pile of shite today! (LEEDS FAN)
One of my favourite games of all time when the FA Cup meant something and managers didn't put out half strength teams. I'd been looking forward to this game coming up in the series and the old hand-held footage is excellent as usual. I was a little disappointed not to see more of the BBC footage though. Eddie Gray's shot that hit the bar in the first half, the move and build up by Currie and cross by Jordan to the Clarke header & Corrigan save shown in real time and not slow motion? Any chance of up-loading some more BBC footage? Also the attendance was officially recorded as 47,731 not 43,731.
Remember that game luvd the quagmire of a pitch no ticky- tacky play on that even though T Currie tried his best to, remember the headlines on the back pages of the papers "Two bites of the cherry" RIP Trevor Cherry 👌
I'm a City fan and just too young for this, I first went to Elland Rd when we were both in the second division in 84/85 I think. Imagine some of the kids nowadays having to experience an awayday back then!! They'd never go again!!! I look at coppers at football now with their trendy beards and tatts and think back in the day you would of got bullied mate! The coppers were hard bastards back then most ex military, they'd give you a good crack if you got out of line. I hate modern football with all this money, zero atmosphere , clueless women attending games, total ownership of the game by Skytv. I've still got a season ticket can't fully let go!! Halcyon days. The Premiership needs Leeds in it..MCFC M20
bascet1 With you 100%! I hate political correctness but have found ways around it. Just turn the tables on the PC brigade and accuse them of what they accuse you of! Most of today's TV generation are brainwashed and cannot think outside of the box their in! Just throw the odd spanner their way like multiculturalism is racist and all about divide and conquer! See their reaction and, most of all, have fun!
Very true. Leeds vs Chelsea another classic rivalry. The police back then were a law unto themselves. As a football fan you had no rights at all, whether law abiding or not. Frankly, many of them loved the aggro themselves so they were often looked upon as just another mob. You'd go to places like Liverpool or Newcastle and they were basically trying to provoke a reaction on the walk between station and ground. Likewise, still going with the hope standing sections will be allowed again.
I should have commented on this channel long before now. Im a Liverpool fan of a mature vintage and I will say that this is categorically the best retro footy channel on youtube. Whether or not you love Leeds the archival footage you have uncovered and the way you have edited it to show not only match action but also the fan culture of a game day experience in the seventies....well it is amazing. If I could say one negative thing I wish you would identify the music. There is a great soundtrack on this video but I dont know where it comes from. But as someone who did a couple of videos on Liverpool Fc in the seventies but gave up because they got blocked, your footage is a world away improvement from mine. Wonderful stuff. Best wishes and thanks again for these fantastic compilations.
Much appreciated. TH-cam usually identifies embedded music automatically and displays it in the description. As it hasn't in this case, it's the theme from The Warriors. Cheers.
how did they decide back then who was gonna get ejected? it looks to me like they frequently grabbed people randomly who were not acting any worse than anyone else.
excellent film..real game..real players..real fans..todays ponces wouldn't be able to handle ot all and although its in the past im so glad i was part of the red army/men in black..great memories 👹👹
Yes proper policing. Give anyone a whack not prejudice in anyway with it either. City had fans? Oh thats right biggest team in Manchester. Can't say I like Leeds but this is excellent. The chap at the end used to go Maine Rd; seems he went away too. Prob on the persil tokens ICF (irritating christian fella)

One doesn't think of Cherry as a goalscorer but in reviewing these videos, it's amazing how many he gets - many quite spectacular. RIP Trevor.

kevin bullen I was going to say the same thing. Great ideal music: opening theme from The Warriors.
best yet ! love the warriors track.
Excellent. Can't wait for episode 10!
Fantastic atmosphere, I was caught up in a crush on the Lowfields Road stand and ended up sat against the advertising hoardings after Trevor Cherry scored.
Cheers for uploading..we had some fun at elland rd..good days..always a battle with Leeds.
Love these high platform shoes & flake trousers!

Andrew Bucknall Another Leeds legend!
Loved the police sergeant who said to the Man City lads on the train, " You move and I'll bloody thump you! " Oh, for those days again!
@@celticwarrior1365 and nobody got offended !
My favourite episode

Great stuff - really enjoyed it - thanks
I was there in the Geldard end wen we played with City 😂...40 years later all i can say is Respect to the City fans an what great times on and off the pitch both sets of fans had
nice one- we only lost three league games that season, as champions and one of them was at Leeds. third division for us next season
Great stuff , the good old days
proper away day

Not a prawn sandwich in sight.
"96 arrests isn't too bad". Blimey.
Proper football, proper tackles, on minimum wage. For the love of the game!

Thanks for the comments. As for the BBC footage, it was all I could get hold of. As for the attendance...well spotted... typing error. Damn!

loving these,even as a forest fan,great nostalgia,is episode 10 coming soon?
Ta very much. They are roughly monthly, real work permitting. There will be footage from all four Leeds/Forest games in the 77/78 season.
Yes great videos. Didn't realise there was any footage of Leeds v Forest at ER in 77?
Yes there'll be goals from both the League and the League Cup games. Probably in Episode 11 or 12.
Great, look forward to it. I believe the original BBC news report of the Nov 77 game has been lost in the archive
Walt Jabsco Until now...
I used to love Leeds coming to Tottenham.always a great atmosphere and in the 80's really violent

Is it me but modern day footballers all look like male models.
only one kop ynwa
The Leeds team of 76-78 would today be mid table league one, the classic team of 1970-4 would just about survive in the championship.
You have proven my point, WITH TODAYS TRAINING.
Ha ha what utter bollox
Wubbish!
And the teams of today wouldn't survive at all back in the 70s. They'd be injured all the time, bunch of softies! They wouldn't even want to set foot on the pitch, they'd be terrified. Daft to try & compare.
