When we’re discussing what the brothers spend 32:48 - post their parent’s murder, I think we have to consider that where we feel a purchase is expensive, to them - buying a Rolex is like us buying a Casio. It’s not comparable. Lyle wanting only the best hotel suite reminds me very much of Jose, his father - only wanting the absolute best. Through a childhood of abuse, the brothers were brainwashed into believing that you must portray only success. Image was everything. That won’t have been an easy act for Lyle to drop just because Jose is gone. He’s been conditioned to behave this way.

Their names crop up more and more and more lately, and I feel fairly ignorant that I don’t know much more than basic information. And this is exactly why I’m here: knowledge and understanding.
Eric said himself in a more recent interview that the period after the deaths they never spent anymore than they usually would. They were a wealthy family and it was only because they were being watched and looked into and the average person would look at that and think it was a lot but that was normal for that family to spend like that
I was just thinking yesterday that I'd love to hear your insights on this case as have been curious about the Netflix documentary. It's like you read my mind!! Great content as always 👏
It’s crazy that they finally confessed on the 11th of December….. and they’re going to have a retrial this year to possibly (Hopfully!) released on the 11th of December!!
Its incredible to me that in this particular case, on the word of the perpetrators of two horrific murders of family members, the victims are demonized. So if Chandler Halderson or his ilk turned around and said 'daddy fiddled with me 😢' suddenly we are all demanding for his release?! They have every incentive to make up these horrendous claims, there is zero actual EVIDENCE and arguably, to the contrary and these entitled psychos are going to walk free?! Unbelievable!
I have very similar things with my son. He's my middle and only boy. He was the most beautiful toddler i had ever seen. He gets way more attention than my girls bc he's always demanded it. Even in utero he was my most difficult pregnancy. He had colic as a baby. Now he's a troubled teenager. I've always bragged about how incredibly intelligent he is. I think genius levels, but he's never been tested or anything. He fell through educational cracks during covid and had so much anxiety afterwards. It's been a struggle. He does abuse us parents sometimes. We're trying to work through.
Emma, you are a very tough woman. You should not have had to cut your father down. You are very brave and a very strong woman and I’m sorry that you had to go through that and you should’ve been able to take some time off and rest and absorb, you I hope you’re doing okay and I hope you got therapy and I hope you’re doing better now. I know you’re not soft, but I really hope you’re doing okay.
Emma and her research is next to none! As she often says .. even if it’s a well covered case .. she always hopes that you’ll walk away with additional context, different perspectives or information that makes tuning in well worth it. She’s not a professional at the end of the day and her career is based in safeguarding, and criminal psychology she THEN got into TH-cam! Sometimes you have it the other way around where someone starts a TH-cam channel THEN gains *interest* in doing research or they started in entertainment (like these TV productions) and tend to sensationalize it, shorten it, and these networks are often not beholden to the same expectations or policies as someone whose background was in the game before they even started appearing in programs or on TH-cam!
I would really like to see your face during the entire back and forth conversation with voices you were doing during the shark fishing bit. I was trying to picture your facial expressions while making those voices and i bet it was even funnier 😂
I had tickets to your tour last year in Cardiff but had to miss it. So I was really chuffed to receive your new book as a gift. What a fab mate! I'm starting it tonight I expect to be up late!
Emma you’re the only person I would rather give me the low down on this. I always learn something more with your content. The best true crime TH-camr in the game I don’t care what anyone says 😎
Hi Emma 🤗, I've been a fan of yours for a long while. I just wanted to say that I am also a victim of s.a. (it was a family member, who did it to me)from when I was a child until I was a teenager. EVEN AFTER what I've been through, though,I couldn't fathom harming anyone! I definitely did not come out of it completely unscathed, I have struggled with addiction issues, although I've been now clean and sober ,since October 31,2015. I, of course also suffered with a lot anger issues towards this person, but through therapy I HAD to let a lot of that go, because holding onto to so much anger, was doing me more harm than good. Right now I'm just trying to make something positive out of my life and I'm just trying to enjoy living my life, one day at a time, one step at a time. I AM a victim but NOW I'm ALSO a SURVIVOR! I DO have a LOT of empathy, for other survivors of abuse . Really what I'm trying to get across however is that violence is NOT the answer!
I found it interesting that Leslie did not want to comment in the recent Netflix documentary, perhaps them going to prison has so hard for her she just had to emotionally disconnect? X
Your comment on 32:47 about Lyle buying the restaurant - Lyle told his tennis coach Charles Wadlington (he was Lyle and Erik's coach from 1981-85) that he wanted to start a restaurant and follow the family tradition of being successful. That is the reason for the purchase. Erik had lost at a tournament at Kalamazoo in Aug89 and was trying to pick up the pieces by upping his tennis game. That is the reason for the tennis coach. Jose had drilled into them that success was important, each was trying to succeed in his own way.
It’s so crazy in this day and age, that we are debating whether the brothers were sa’d or not. One fault of this is that it has mainly been treated as a legal matter. For goodness sakes! There are so many psychologists, psychiatrists and sexuality experts, surely there are ways of determining if someone has been abused or not. We can send spaceships to Mars and we can’t work out a sadly, not uncommon human misbehaviour? As long as experts are not used, and people have to depend on the arguments in courts to work out whether it happened or not, victims will continue to be too scared to report abuse.
I LOVE emma but i do want to recommend crime weeklys 5/6 parter on this case if anyone is looking to listen to a podcast where they cover the background of both parents, the crime scene, the evidence, both trials, the therapist and all the bs going on with him & I'm sure more I'm forgetting.
I'm looking forward to this. May i say Emma you look stunning! You always look beautiful, but you have done something special with your hair. I also really love the new backdrop behind you. Xx

Im American - and Live in Brentwood which is in same county as Beverly Hills...I wasn't born yet when it actually happened but I'm not 💯 percent of they were Abused. The 1st trial mistrial. 2nd trial was convicted. Jose Sister said their mother abused Jose then Jose Abused his 2 sons... Sentence Life No Parole. Now because of a Netflix series everyone started talking about it again and other people like the boy band Menudo says they were assaulted. I'm not confident on that because there's no proof other than their word. So now their getting a resentencing and immediate Parole and gonna be Free ... essentially that's long story short....
I'm so pleased you're covering this case. These men should definitely be set free. On a lighter note. I googled 'Chook Spring Street Cafe', no such place. Of course I didn't take into account Emma's accent. It's Chuck not Chook. My excuse... I'm from Australia 🤦♀
There was only one tape which had Erik and Lyle's voices on it and they knew they were being recorded. There's a transcript for it online. All of the other tapes were just Dr Oziel's dictated notes which he recorded weeks after the confession.
I am so glad you were diving into this. I respect your opinion. They're not going to be that old when they get out. That is concerning to me along with the planning and quick spending of a lot of money. I want to see your knowledgeable opinion about the sexual domestic assault supposedly from their dad. Lastly, how Kitty would have played into all this and how it could be legitimate for them to kill their own mother to help her so to speak. Thank you for presenting this with so much of your wisdom.
Sorry about the programmer I realized it after I clicked. I'm also thinking how much California has changed. In a matter of about 30 years or less now no one goes to jail and it's chaos in a lot of the big cities. But during the Menendez time judges tended to back up the police no matter what.
Waited for most of the uploads from you to do this. I didn't watch the Netflix movie/doc/series because I don't like most of the murder docs that aren't properly warranted for example Ted bundy and more. Really enjoying your coverage on this Em, it genuinely feels like I am hearing it for the first time. I think it's a combo of your format and the personal touch you tend to give each video. I've said it before on one of your earlier vids: You truly are born for this! Thank you 🤗
Been waiting for this one ! Thankyou xxxx
Your voice is so soothing! I love watching your videos to calm down. Excited for the next part!
Her voice is sooooo soothing
I’m now going to have to sit on my hands until Friday, and have the massive treat of a 3 parter to binge. Thank you so much. Their names crop up more and more and more lately, and I feel fairly ignorant that I don’t know much more than basic information. And this is exactly why I’m here: knowledge and understanding.
Good luck holding off lol I can’t wait lol
@ haha yep. Who am I kidding? 😂
Me too 😢😂
I made it!! Currently binge-watching
Eric said himself in a more recent interview that the period after the deaths they never spent anymore than they usually would. They were a wealthy family and it was only because they were being watched and looked into and the average person would look at that and think it was a lot but that was normal for that family to spend like that
Sadly, it's all how you "word" and present everything that easily sways the mindless drones that compose the upper-percentage of this society. 😔
@@DamianoftheRyansa wealthy person buying a Rolex really is no big deal. How naive are you?
@@Maximus_lobsticus You're right, it's not. How naïve are YOU? 🤔🤣😂
@@DamianoftheRyans Arghh, I think I misread your comment. So not naive, but careless. Apologies!
This is what i have been waiting on! This story is allll over the place. Finally its going to make sense. Thank you Emma!
I was just thinking yesterday that I'd love to hear your insights on this case as have been curious about the Netflix documentary. It's like you read my mind!! Great content as always 👏
I am so excited emma to hear your viewpoint, both from the original court case, to discussions about a possible retrial after the Neflix series x
It’s crazy that they finally confessed on the 11th of December….. and they’re going to have a retrial this year to possibly (Hopfully!) released on the 11th of December!!
Excellent deep dive… you are very good at what you do ❤
Gorgeous hair Emma!
Thank you for doing this case, I knew you would do this case with such kindness ❤
Woohoo I was so hoping you would do this! Thank you for your always great videos.
I've listened to 10,000 Menendez coverings, but no one has ever mentioned this trading card before. How can that be??
Ahhhh! It was only the other week I commented hoping you'd cover this case, and here you are!! Thank you Emma!
Well said my darling I agree with you… ❤
I was hoping you would cover this case! Thanks Em ❤
Abuse does not give you permission to murder
EXACTLY
It's a mitigation factor though. A BIG one.
@@pastelroswell *mitigating
@pastelroswell abuse is used as an excuse to go on and abuse others so now it is mitigation for murder?
Where does it end?
@@pastelroswell *mitigating
Been waiting soooo long for you to do this Emma! Thank you
❤ the background , a sneak peak into your research process with the boards! Been looking forward to your take on this one. Xx
Yeeesss Emma, finally!! My mum said she watched the actual cort case and said even family members said bad things about the dad!!
Oooooo I’ve been WAITING for this! Your the only true crime channel I want to watch covering the Menendez Brothers!🙌🏻🙌🏻
I found it interesting that Leslie did not want to comment in the recent Netflix documentary, perhaps them going to prison has so hard for her she just had to emotionally disconnect? X
Thanks Emma for covering this.i love your chase tshirt 👕❤️🧡💛💚💙🐱🐱🐱
wow emma love what you done with the place, proper armchair detective back ground.i like it ,it looks really good xx
FOR YEARS EMMA IVE ASKED YOU FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Made my day thank you xxxx
Your comment on 32:47 about Lyle buying the restaurant - Lyle told his tennis coach Charles Wadlington (he was Lyle and Erik's coach from 1981-85) that he wanted to start a restaurant and follow the family tradition of being successful. That is the reason for the purchase. Erik had lost at a tournament at Kalamazoo in Aug89 and was trying to pick up the pieces by upping his tennis game. That is the reason for the tennis coach. Jose had drilled into them that success was important, each was trying to succeed in his own way.
Thank you!
Wow I was just about to visit your channel and BEG you to do this case. Can’t wait to watch.
Awe you're hair looks lovely on here Em, gona listen to this while I do the house work xx
Yessssssss!!!!! Cant wait to hear your deep dive on this, and mostly to hear your opinions on this 🙏😘 thank you Queen 👑🙏
I'm looking forward to this. May i say Emma you look stunning! You always look beautiful, but you have done something special with your hair. I also really love the new backdrop behind you. Xx
@Emma Kenny thank you so much for this case, will watch it soon 😘I will comment on Friday after the final case 😘
Siiick 🤙🏼🤙🏼
I just finished the Netflix dramatization version, so I’ve had a refresher
I think youre wiser than Yoda!!!!! 😁🤣😁🤣
I have missed so many episodes due to illness ending in a say in hospital. I hope now I can catch up. Hope everyone on here is healthy and happy
omg i cannot WAIT to hear your views on this. crime weekly did an amazing deep dive series lately, now you. I'm buckled in for the ride
I beleive these boys were horribly abused and emotionally neglected, what they went thro and still go thro is very very sad, But murder is murder, why not run away? Get their own place, shout from the roof tops about the abuse! But you do not end people's life's, there were options, there are Always options.❤
Adore you Kenny 🎉loving the book and so pleased I got to meet you in September ❤❤❤
53:00. The ‘Not Me’ caption made me lol
I may be wrong, but if youre talking about Calabasas in California - the way youre saying it made me laugh 😂 not in a horrible way; it sounded so cute and really made me giggle 😅
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Ps. Ordered my Serial killer next door book to South Africa. I will be the first person in SA to have a hard copy. I can't wait
If it is true that that one or both men were sexually abused by their father and their mother enabled it!! They never should have been spent a day in prison...they deserved the justice that r criminal justice system never would have given them especially at that time ❤😞💯
The mother sexually abused the younger son, also.
@KellyB3 I never knew that omg🤢😤
@@liberallioness4335 it wasn’t the same type of abuse, per say. She would walk around nude in front of him and have him give her massages in the nude and touching. This was also seen by a relative.
@@KellyB3no the older one
@ thank you. I wasn’t sure. 😊
So excited your covering this! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Im a new viewer, (and Subscriber duh) and im so glad to have come across your channel! Your style is so unique in a really good way! Also, on a super random, not having anything to do with anything note, you look like a mixture between Sienna Miller, Naomi Watts, and Hilary Swank, and thats a fabulous mixture IMO 🤗Ok, well Ill get back to watching now..just wanted to say that! Byeee
Well , that's boosted my ego . lolz xx
Oh wow I asked if you would cover this. Thank you Em x
I was hoping to find out more about this case ❤
Woohoo right before I leave for work, got 15 mins before I leave 😂.......morning Emma
You look gorgeous Emma!
Emma fabulous part 1. 🎃
I'm so pleased you're covering this case. These men should definitely be set free. On a lighter note. I googled 'Chook Spring Street Cafe', no such place. Of course I didn't take into account Emma's accent. It's Chuck not Chook. My excuse... I'm from Australia 🤦♀
Thankyou for doing this case Emma. I think it's time they were freed. They haven't had a chance at normality.
Can't wait till the next episodes... Thanks Emma...♥️💚💜🇨🇦
Ok I am startin now so i can bk to bk this on my Friday night ❤
Thank you Emma xx
Set them free they've suffered enough
My mom is terrified of sharks too.
1:40 my 3yo went as yoda this year for Halloween 🖤🖤
Can't wait for this one Emma ❤
There was only one tape which had Erik and Lyle's voices on it and they knew they were being recorded. There's a transcript for it online. All of the other tapes were just Dr Oziel's dictated notes which he recorded weeks after the confession.
Massive thank you too Emma 😊 inspiration x
That done verbal grammar sorry everybody if you're reading this
Waited for most of the uploads from you to do this. I didn't watch the Netflix movie/doc/series because I don't like most of the murder docs that aren't properly warranted for example Ted bundy and more. Anyways thank you for your dedication in this because it is biased on most news and channels so I don't care about imperfections because mistakes can be made and your human.
Happy Halloween Emma!🍂❤️🎃💛🍁👻🌙🧡
29:45 i feel like that is very different when you’re an ordinary person and their the wealthiest of the wealthy and all they know when it comes to surroundings is nice things, also erik did not say they watched that movie
Oh WOW!!!! Now you’re spoiling us ❤❤
The real story according to who? Those that can benefit?, or those who are no longer here to clear their names?
That 911 call was cringe...
I can't wait to hear what Emma thinks!!
I'm so conflicted on this one 😩😩
If you’re looking for reasonable doubt, watch Bob Anderson’s testimony. He was a witness for the prosecution and a boat captain taking the family shark fishing, and really demonstrated that the boys displayed fear of during the trip.
