Thank you for your help.
Will this work with dogs of all ages?!?
Yes, this is the video I needed to start trying to work with my dog on his reactivity to big vehicles (buses, semi trucks, mail trucks). He will bark and pull when they are driving by until he can’t see them anymore.
Thank you
Hi from quebec, so happy to have found your YT channel, getting a dachshund puppy in 2 days....
Thank you! My husky responds well to this so far!
My dog's "trigger" is other dogs. I could use suggestions on places to train her with distance from other dogs where I can control the distance. What I have found in my neighborhood or at places like parks is that I try to work at a distance, but then we encounter off leash dogs, or people that continue to come toward us with their dogs on leash even if they see we are struggling with reactivity.
That's my exact situation too. My dog is pretty great and behaved mostly. Got her to sit and let dogs pass without barking or lunging at them. But an owner let's their dog come towards us and I almost got dragged across the floor by my dog and her leash! I felt so frustrated and avoid parks now.
I hate other dog owners who are not aware or just don’t care that you are training. It happens a lot.
This is the perfect video for me for my collie who is scared of traffic
I was wondering if you could do a video about what you need for a service dog
Thanks!
Thanks for the “Thanks”, Earthsseed!
I’m getting a puppy on Friday , so will be using your tips. Bev from uk
She's so big now!!! Religiously watched her puppy series when I was preparing to get my first personal dog.
How do you train stopping sniffing and going off path on walks every 20, 30, 40 feet?
Can you go more in-depth on the difference in training and using heel vs loose leash?
How do you do this stuff when u live in a city/smaller area without fields and large spaces to practice?
My dog’s distraction is rabbits and/or a cat. I can’t wait for one of these appear, but we do practice near where we’ve spotted them previously.
I have a 3 year old resume dog, I got her 3 months ago, she is my shadow in the house and garden but when we leave the house she ignores me. She doesn’t come when called and pulls on the leash when she sees or hears a rabbit. When she does come after i tug the leash she circles around the back of me, which makes me nervous.
I've been trying this for a while now with my 8 mo old great dane. The problem is that she stops pulling for a second, looks at me and then grabs my leg or arm or ankle or jumps up to get my stomach or back. She grabs and doesn't let go and she won't stop for 😂treats toys or anything. Sometimes she knocks me to the ground and still keep biting. I'm covered in bruises and gashes from her teeth and most recently I have puncture holes where she just kept biting harder. This never happens around anyone else or to anyone else but I don't want to try a ND walk again for fear of it happening again. Maybe a little off topic but I just want to be able to calmly walk my dog. Do you have any help for me? Thank you!
Great Video! Thank you so much. I have a concern about the leash around the neck; that it could chock the dog as a pose to a harness. Any thoughts?
The harness allows the dog to pull even harder. Try a martingale collar.

@@janicetribbiani7535 thank you, I will research the collar.
Hi, really enjoy watching and learning from your videos. I have a 3 yr old Aussie. I seem to be going the route of three steps forward two steps back in the training. I realize that is mostly my fault in wanting to rush things to much. My biggest issue right now is toys. Once she gets a toy how do you get her to release it without getting my hand and arms scratched and bitten? She is not aggressive just really high strung( rambunctious), in short how do I get her to let go or drop?
Try and exchange the toy for a different one and repeat, I've found it's a good way to teach a release command. Think there might be a mccann training video on this as well?

@@McCannDogs Thanks I will give them a try
yes, my dog would ignore STEAK to chase a rabbit or another dog 🙄 and she is strong!

Man, wish i would be such a high value person, like you :(
Since there are so many food treats do you decrease amount of food at mealtime to prevent dog weight gain?

May I know what if my dog is afraid of cars.. she doesn’t pull to the car but pull to run away.. should I ask her sit and reward if she doesn’t pull when car goes by, then go away from the road as a reward
I have a question maybe y’all can make a video about or someone might know the answer. I got my first dog a few years ago, and overall she’s amazing. I spent a lot of time with her. However, I unknowingly at the time taught her to not growl when uncomfortable. So now if she gets uncomfortable she goes to snapping instead of growling first. Is there a way to train her to growl again when uncomfortable? I’ve been searching for this for over a year at this point.
Not sure how to help you but imo this is an issue that can arise when you punish/train out warning behaviors! Only thing i can recommend is watching really close for other early signs she's uncomfortable and listening to them.
Really good advice on body language and management. I don't know how to get her to growl again but you could investigate training an alternative "I don't like this" signal ? I know people have trained their smaller dogs to stand on one of their feet as a signal they are uncomfortable and want to be picked up. For smaller dogs obvs but the principle remains the same?
@@nospoonfulofmayonnaiseforme yeah, thats what I accidentally did when I first got her. Overall she's great. Well trained and all. But I got her 1 week before the pandemic and she was just under a year old. So fast forward a year she grew up her first year with me with basically 0 human interaction aside from my family. So then I start taking her outside to more public areas and she would freak out. At the same time, I noticed hey, why does she not growl, she just snaps? And I retroactively noticed that I would correct uncomfortable "growls/barks" when I first got her and we'd walk in the neighborhood. She is my first dog ever so I didn't know I was doing this when I did. She's gotten to a point where we can go to public areas and shes fine, and even at times she's let people pet her at the dog park, but I'm not yet comfortable with strangers petting her elsewhere since I can't be sure she won't snap and at least at the dog park people know more about dogs. I guess I can just wait until she's fully acclimated to more public areas and then slowly lets friends pet her and see how she does.
@@taramcgavan7654 I've tried this. She's a very quite dog overall. Only time she barks is when she wants to go outside. But that's an excited bark, not a frightful bark. But no growls.
Hi! my 10 week old puppy is used to peeing in his diaper and doesn't want to do it outside. How can I help him?
i’m having a hard time with my dog barking. she’s a shepherd so i would expect a little bit of vocalizing but i can’t get a consistent response. so i can’t train her to do it on command. sometimes when the door opens, sometimes if the doorbell rings, sometimes after someone has been home for 5 minutes she will run back over to them and just bark
not usually outside but typically inside
even if she can reach the person, they will be petting her and she will bark still, we’ve tried space and she will just lay by me and bark, we’ve tried place, she will go to place when someone comes in and just bark from the bed.
she was in some public service training prior to this and i’m feeling defeated.
Where did you get the ball toy tug?
We made it! Check it out at www.Mccanndogs.store to get yours!
What do you do when the pulling and dragging you starts as soon as you open your door?
Try working on opening and closing the door while keeping the dog in a sit position. Don't be too close to the door at first. Don't even go out of the door. Practice opening and shutting the door, keeping your dog in a sit.

Have you addressed dog reactive dogs. I rescued a pup from a shelter whom is now 8 months and I wasn’t informed he is negatively dog reactive and the local training hasn’t improved the behavior
glad I watched this. The touch trick is a good idea and I will try it. my dog Luna is now 2 I got her when she was 4 months old. I did at home training first then started a class for obedience and loose leash (honestly didn't learn much in loose leash, it wasn't what I expected). She is highly distracted on walks to want to sniff everything on the path, grass, light poles, fire hydrants, plants, sticks. She ignores people, dogs and cars. She picks up on a scent and pulls hard to it or turns around and tries to go the other way. When I say her name, and she knows her name, she just ignores me as if she's gone deaf because she's distracted. Even when she isn't distracted she still pulls. She is not toy motivated and does like treats but when using high value treats on a walk, she will still ignore me and never ever give's me focus.
What if your dog is distracted literally by everything? I have a Spaniel like that lol.
My dog goes nuts with bicycles and people running towards us.
Have you addressed dog reactive dogs. I rescued a three month old pup from a shelter whom is now 8 months and I was not informed that he is dog reactive. Local training has not improved his behavior
My dogs attention problem are the smells...he literally smells EVERYTHING 🤦🏼♀️ But he refuses to smell the treat in my hand
To potential beginner dog owners thinking about getting an Aussie shepherd or another herding breed.... Don't.
Especially if you live downtown Toronto😂
Why is that?
@@Jess_Bishopthey are not best for beginners. Most ppl would end up with a reactive dog because they cannot handle their genetics.
@@tripleaofficial8562 yes, I overlooked the “beginner” in the comment and just assumed they were saying to not get the breed at all. But I do agree with that!
If you are an active person and spend time doing things with your dog herding breeds are fine. If you are a runner, a hiker, a roller bladder, spend time outdoors they are a great choice. If you are not active or an outdoors person and do not have the time or interest to play with a dog herders are not a good choice.
Forcing the dog to sit/lie down?
Shouldn't she have been taught to focus on you/your brother when she was a small puppy ? Always teach my puppies to walk with me without a lead from the day they come to me. That way they never learn to pull on the lead & know walking close to me is rewarding. It's not rocket science
you are not walking the dog ,you are feeding the dog!!!
