Funny - this is exactly what has happened to me. Fell asleep with my radio still on in 1999 and woke up to this song. Never knew the title or the name of the band that played that song that has hounded me since that night in 1999. The melody is sooo beautiful... and sad at the same time. Just found out YESTERDAY (Feb 28) who actually performed and have added it immediately to my Spotify list. I never want to be without this song! So very happy! ❤

Cette chanson je l'avais fait découvrir à mon neveu, il y a bien longtemps , lors de vacances chez ses grands-Parents. Il est parti en 2018 bien trop jeune et sur ses derniers moments, il écoutait cette chanson sans discontinuer . Paix à ton âme Mon Fabrice. Ever since hearing him on "Jesus Christ Superstar" I've always felt that Murray Head's voice is incredible. It's a shame that he never became a superstar. This one specific song, however, is truly his masterpiece; nearly 50 years after its initial release it still brings chills and goosebumps
Same absolute masterpiece
Met him twice, as he's living not far from my birthplace, in a town called Saucède in Bearn (South West of France).
Told me he may have considered a greater fame when he was a young guy, but quickly dismissed the idea when he realized how it wouldn't match with his personality and values, how you become in no time a cog in the big machine and thrown away as soon as you're deemed "useless, has-been".
Hence why we know him without having seen him everywhere, or hearing him each time radios were turned on back then, unlike Phil Collins (who fortunately kept his head and artist integrity up).

Qui peut dire encore que seule la musique compte dans une chanson ? Je suis bouleversé par ce cri, qui trainait dans ma mémoire comme dans la vôtre.
On peut très bien dire que la déchirure éprouvée au moment d'un basculement de réalité résume qu'il s'agit bien de confiance perdue dans tous les cas. C'est vous qui étiez, dès le départ, un étranger et c'est vous qu'on rappelle à votre solitude.

Quand je pense que je n’avais jamais entendu cette chanson parce que je n’avais jamais cherché à savoir ce qu’elle raconte ! Alors, je me penche sur le texte ; à présent je connais les mots accrochés aux syllabes de cette mélodie, je comprends et je pleure. Et puis cette voix, cette flamme dans la gorge !

I have this on several playlists, and just last week I was driving around with a new friend and when this song came on, he asked, “Who is this?” And that’s when it struck me that that has always happened: it doesn’t matter how much my friends are bobbing their heads and tapping their feet and air drumming to every other song on my playlists (most they’ve never heard before), THIS is the song that always grabs them enough to want to know who it is. And I always play it twice, even when I’m alone. I’ll never get tired of it. ❤

this song was in the back of my memories but I did not know until a few years ago I heard it again for the first time in more than forty years, it just Blew me and unleashed so many memories of my childhood, listening to it on the radio, shops,etc, I suddenly was six or seven years old ,it brought a wave of happiness and goose bumps. Now this haunting,mesmerizing and prophetic song is part of my life,I could listen to Murray's voice for ever. Please listen to the rest of his songs,he really is an underrated,hidden gem, especially in this era of hollow lame tunes. Thanks for this music,to whoever posted it,and Thank you,Murray!🌹

Bought this album at a record store in 1975 at Yonge and Bloor, has been one of my favourites ever since. Had to buy it two more times on vinyl and then on CD (wore them out) Best version, great tune.

I tied it to the death of Joey Dunlop when I heard it, a truly sad day for the motorcyclist community when he passed 02/07/2000 the greatest TT rider in my mind that will ever be.........50,000 ppl attended his funeral he was that big. RIP Joey

I've been a fan of this song ever since I heard it as a kid. I keep coming back to it for inspiration. Such a dynamic song. I wish Murray Head would post a video discussing the production of the song, from writing the first idea down, to where it was recorded, producers, engineers, musicians,. The strings are beautiful but only come in a little bit here and there, was that difficult choice? Would love to hear Murray discuss the song in a studio setting going track by track. How many days did it take to record all the parts?
