ARC vs ASV vs Stock - Clutch Perch and Lever Comparisons

  • Here is a video breakdown and comparison of the ARC RC8 clutch perch with the memlon levers, the ASV C6 clutch perch and levers and a stock clutch perch and lever. Some details on the similarities and differences between the aftermarket and stock as well.
    One item I failed to mention in the video is how the aftermarket clutch perch affected the feel of the clutch pull. On my YZ250FX, the aftermarket clutch perch made a huge difference in the feel of the pull, making it lighter and easier to use. Pure guess would be roughly 35% easier to pull in, quite a different feel. On my YZ250X however, it was not as noticeable, maybe 10% easier to pull. I have found that aftermarket clutch perches seem to help a 4 stroke bike alot more than a 2 stroke.
    I also got some more info from ARC on their levers and they came back with the following information:
    1) ARC Levers are the inventors of the folding lever (we hold the patent), everyone came after us. Not ASV.
    2) We have duel pivot bearings on the outside of the perch so they don’t get sloppy like “all” the others.
    3) We have a full adjuster boot on the RC-8 to keep the adjuster clean. The adjuster is also memlon with 2 ball detents for 1/8 of a turn adjustment.
    5) The weight is also a factor, we are lighter than all the rest as well.
    6) The bodies are “Cold forged” then machined from billet to what you received. (a much stronger part).
    7) The brake levers have a “precision ground sleeve” to pivot on so they don’t get sloppy from use.
    8) Unbreakable Memlon means you always have a lever attached to the bike and our cold forged aluminum levers may bend but don’t break off, means you will finish the race or gets you back to the truck.

    Thanks for this. One thing to point out, on the Stock Yamaha FX perch (same as a WR perch), there is a switch wire that goes back to the ECU to tell the bike when the clutch is pulled in, so the e-start will work. If you replace the perch with a new one, you should "jumper" the switch wires -ie,. join them together. This way you will not need to shift to neutral to start the bike, just remember to pull the clutch lever when starting :)

      nzkiwibri you are correct you can do that on the fx/wr, (or any bike with a clutch safety switch) and that’s what I have done with my fx.

    I just bought the ASV C3's, same except for the micro adjuster is an allen screw instead. I found the best selection and prices at ATV Galaxy on ebay. $133 for kit w/ both and dust guards. C6 kit is $155 i think. Sooo happy with them but the ARC 's look nice too. Composite is cool. And asv dont hv safety wire. Great video comparason!

    Best breakdown on these kits. I read earlier today that dude that started ASV used to work at ARC. I’ve been on the fence between these two and the Magura but seem to be leaning more towards the ARC.

      Andrew Pardo thank you I appreciate that. I believe your info is backwards though, the creator of ARC was part of ASV and parted ways. The machining and quality of ARC is a slight notch above ASV in my book, and the owner of ARC is the guy that all the factory companies go to for one off, custom parts. You cannot go wrong with either, but my recommendation is ARC

      @@joshmundy slight quality advantage, which personally i don’t think there’s any difference does not warrant the nearly double price. Especially considering ASV has a no questions asked warranty

      @@BLINC606 it’s all personal preference, but not nearly double asking price if you are talking top of the line ASV. I’ve had ASV, I run ARC now because I like the feeling and actuation better - and the memlon of the ARC lever are truly unbreakable

      @@joshmundy Never tried the Memlon ones I can imagine they’re nice tho. But for me price is a big factor. I was going to buy ARC levers for my YZ125 since i already have ASVs on my Raptor 700, but i wanted the clutch, clutch perch and brake lever. Got the ASV F2s which are a cheaper series for $115 shipped. I think the ARC clutch + perch alone i was looking at was like $100 so i just went ASV.
      Great video btw i loved the attention to detail and side by side comparisons.

      @@BLINC606 Also the F2 you mention are only warrantied for 2 years, not lifetime like ARC which are a true no questions asked. As far as lever, the F2 is a fine lever but is no where comparable to the C6 which is 6061 billet aluminum, similar to the ARC. There is a reason the F2 is much cheaper than the C6 or ARC

    Ya i just picked up a set of the composite arc levers, love them!! after running these levers i will never run anything else besides these.

    Very well put together video! For me stock brake lever and pro taper clutch lever but you've peaked my interest in the composite arc

      A friend got me interested in them as he runs them all the time and loves them. After using them a little I was really happy and felt at home with them, no adjustment at all. For you the benefit of the clutch perch is in the smoothness of the lever and quick adjustment for cable tension / slack, but on the yz250x it doesnt adjust the pull feel very much, but on the 250fx it made alot of difference

    Imo pro taper is surprisingly a little better but asv is still great. Arc is also amazing especially for price idk why but pro tapper gives u least fatigue .. prolly why it’s so popular in super cross and other races

      might want to look at every factory bike and see what they are running, it isnt pro taper levers.

      Not while riding, but after using them for 4-5 years, the memlon I have found does get moved easier on a tip over. With my new ktm I have gone to the aluminum. I like the smaller feel better.

      Nope never have had a problem with Fastway Full Wrap Arounds. A lot of it depends on how far out you like your levera

      @@msparacino4191 dc8 is die cast perch body and smaller adjuster knob. RC8 is machined perch body and larger adjuster knob. RC8 is what I run

    Would the asv lever work on a stock yz250 perch or would I have to get the whole new perch with the lever

      Sorry for late reply, just saw this. Yes an ARC or ASV lever will work on a stock perch, but it will fit and feel better on the proper perch. Also, the pull ratio on the levers are typically different with the aftermarket perch vs the stock perch so it will normally give you an easier and smoother pull. I always recommend getting the perch for the full effect but if you cant the level alone is still a worthwhile option.

    Hey i need a little of help my asv f2 clutch perch broke and i cant find another any help ? And i only need the perch not the whole lever.

      you have to call ASV to see if you can purchase just the perch for f2 or buy the lever and perch again

    Want to mount an asv or pro taper clutch perch on 08 trx 450r but don’t want to be able to crank in gear. How can I retain the neutral safety switch with new perch??

      Are you wanting a neutral safety switch or a clutch safety switch? This may be different on a quad, but on a dirtbike its a clutch safety switch on the perch, which will not allow the bike to start unless clutch is pulled in when the bike is in gear. A neutral safety switch is based on the bike being in neutral and does not care about clutch. Now with every aftermarket perch I have seen, there is no room for a clutch safety switch. You either
      A: disconnect the connection and now the bike will NEVER start in gear, even with clutch in, or
      B: you take the 2 wires for the clutch safety switch and solder them together and now the bike will always start, even if in gear and clutch is not pulled in.
      For me, I choose option B.

    Hey mate i have a 21 CRF 250R. I have recently purchased the asv C6 clutch lever and didn’t install it because doing so would disable the neutral safety switch. I was wondering if the Arc perch had comes with the neutral safety switch for E start bikes?

      Nope - not mine, maybe they have added recently but I doubt it Pretty common to just remove the switch and not worry about it

      Why would you want to keep that safety? The first thing I did was disable that when I got my 19 crf. Thank god my 22 doesn’t have that. 🤣

      Honestly I disagree. It all changes the way it acts and responds. You can use your same wording on any item such as "Too dang complicated, its a clutch, engine, tires, suspension for Gods Sake", but it doesnt change the fact that minor changes to every component can result in major differences. In a sport where the rider comfort is a large portion of rider confidence and rider confidence is a large portion of riders performing at their best, everything matters.

      @@joshmundy I understand your point Josh. More people agree with you than me. There are alot of ASV levers out there. As I get older I like simplicity more. I think dropping your bike on a wet day will have even more moving parts to get packed with mud. I like simple bikes too.

      Terrain / conditions definately plays a big part of it. It also depends on if we are talking racing vs trail riding. Snapped off clutch / front brake lever in a race means my race is over, on a trail ride I can limp it back to camp/truck. With as much as it costs to just show up and line up for a race, most people will spend a little more to help make sure they can finish the race.
