Crazy Lawn Chair Balloon Flight!

- www.tarproducti... John Freis, 51, ties 170 helium balloons to his lawn chair (in a sophisticated manner, of course) and flies up to 12,400 ft, traveling 46 miles in almost 4 hours. He had a parachute, oxygen, GPS, ballast and a BB gun.
I applaud Lawn-chair Larry, and all the rest of you guys that go up this way. It is truly amazing to watch this.
THE NOSTALGIA, I USED TO WATCH THIS ALL THE TIME FOR SOME REASON 😂
a remake of the famous lawn chair larry 1982
In UP 2, Carl's house is gone so he just flies around in this lawn chair.
Huh, ? 🤔
@@carlschmiedeke151 he refers when the house flies away and lands at the falls
when I taught him how to be a bartender back in 1980, he talked about doing this. I think it took him this long to fork over the cash for a parachute, lol.
....and let us not forget..... the memory of 'Lawn Chair Larry' aka Larry Walters.
Why doesn't this have more views? It's so neat!! Can you imagine if you were a pilot and you just suddenly saw this on your travels? haha!
The algorithm probably doesn't want to encourage this.
its reproduction of Larry Walters history
I've been dreaming about doing something similar to this guy, also on a smaller scale. The plan I've come up with (and hope to carry out) is basically a harness (like those used in mountain climbing) with balloons attatched by carabiners (those climbing clips); a remotely controlled fan could be mounted on the back of the harness (or on the shoes) to control direction. The balloons could be unclipped individually in order to lower.
Feeling like you're floating through the air would be amazing.
Don't do this please. There's multiple problems. Unless you want to clip 50+ to you, you're going to have them strung together. The upward force will he difficult to unclip. It's also a terrible waste of an element we will run out of in our life time.
Go on a hot air balloon ride run by professionals. All the sensation and none of the dangers.
@@bigverybadtom defeats the purpose entirely
wann see a guy walking with almost enough to lift him , hopping off heights , what else run bike
B A L L S of stee….helium
for some reason I thought the world looked like nothing compared to now but it looks kinda the same cuz of seeing this video of 2009 with a good camera
That was insane !!! Balls of steel for sure
+bakerXderek hes got a parachute.... no more balls required than skydiving
+bakerXderek
Wrong! Balls of steel are too heavy.
+bakerXderek Ive been trying to think how anyone can think this take much balls... then it dawned on me.... this world is full of cowards.. so why wouldn't they see someone floating with some balloons a having balls... when the most courageous thing they have done in their life is pay their taxes or jerk off one less time a day then they feel like doing...
try fighting a war... you know... where the enemy isn't a predictable force of nature... but is a divinely created instrument who's determined that his sole purpose is to kill you.
that is some scary shit.
Very impressive. Good launch site, unlike the original lawn chair flyer who launched in middle of city and to have a heavy buzzing him instead of a Cessna. However those powerlines look scary near the landing site.
didn't know there is a credential called "balloon expert"
the corect name is "baloonatic"
They're not even balloon enthusiast. As you can tell by the balloons randomly popping, they didn't choose good quality latex and underfill them enough to account lower atmosphereic pressure. They also wasted probably a days worth of the time helium will still be available as a resource on Earth. Hydrogen is dangerous, but at least we have an over abundance. Capitalism sucks.
Wow. Wow. He's got balls. Well done.
* Takes off *
"Wait a minute, I change my mind"
XDDDDD
Lol
A BEAUTIFUL landing had me applauding up here in Canada 12 years later
Bro. Same
The landing was truly amazing!
The GOOGLE guys should EACH give this guy $1,000,000 CASH for doing this. This was INCREDIBLE !
Lol I used to watch this vid all the time 2011 to 2014
This was made EXACTLY 1 year after I was born
You are 13, the same age as my Maine Coon Cat, Sir Prince Charming. Your generation will likely be flying around in flying cars some day.
If I do that, I do it sitting in a toilet, just to be safe 8P.
That guy is a legend !! RESPECT !
No, Larry Walter is. He did this all by his own in 82, unexpectedly reaching a freezing cold 16000ft. He was then luckily spotted by some aviation radars and flight attendants before getting rescued, after getting entangled in neighbouring power lines.... LOL, what a story back then!
oh man that was awsome...that could have turned bad in a moments notice but i see he was prepared with the parachute!
Wow I saw this on king of the hill.
I've heard about this episode.
This is INCREDIBLE! I always wanted to float by balloons.. I settled for para-sailing in the Bahamas.. I am sorry this wonderful gentleman is no longer alive.. I would have happily dated him... he is an inspiration to me, his creativity., USA is too rigid w/rules and regulations, I have worked for the airlines, I know how snappy the FAA is.. we are always under the watchful (and WELL-PAID) Government.. Bravo to those who chose to live a little in his case a LOT.. and to be fined.. ridiculous!
Love the aluminum ladder construction technique for the gondola. Nice.
I applaud your courage and sense of adventure
Nice landing, too. I bet alot of little kids dream of doing this when holding their toy helium balloons. I know I did! :D
Think I just pooped myself! 😦
Enormous !
i'm a pilot irl, never saw that!
Congratulations!
Here in Brazil, we had crazy priest who used baloons to get closer to God! gues what, YEAH HE DIED!!! But he became a MEME and now we use his "suicide adventure" as a joke kkkkkkk GOOD LUCK with your ballon quest kkk
How dare they not mention Larry Walters, the only real lawn chair balloonist. Larry is an inspiration to humankind; this guy is a hack with some money (and a few friends who happen to be engineers, of course.)
Mark knowles:balloon expert. I wanna be a balloon expert!
Not even close to balloon expert
Fletcher Graymane
I typed this comment 4 years ago and reading it now I have no idea what it means
Nevermind I got it now
this man has truly lived
I dream of doing this, have so for decades. Thanks for the film! One small suggestion is not to let the balloons go because they wind up killing sea life.
Had a dream about this last night .. except the balloons were tied to me and i could go up and down lol
Yeah, f-16 pilot to base.We have a radar lock on a flying candy requesting permission to encage.
~ Encage?
Nice going guys, great effort.............
Steve (Australia)
when he got on board that balloon he looked like an old man and when he returned he looked young hahaha you kicked azz
haha!
@Malegnius Um, that was the 172 which provided third-person video for the event.
He had a parachute, oxygen, GPS, ballast, a BB gun and lots of duct tape!
Those airlines must love this going on ha ha.
awesome video. the foundations of balloon flight in use.
Are you gonna make a new video?
Air fall gamer of course. Subscribe to our channel to be notified!
I've always wanted to do that, my bucket list.
😂😂😂😂😂😂I WAS CRACKING UP WITH THEM......GOOOD TIMES😁😁
A childhood dream became true
Now try it with an entire house
if they both had parachutes, I'd say, Yeah!
You often see all those balloon-flyers taking off, but not so often do we see them landing???
The bucket list!
Always wanted to do this since I was a kid.
Larry Walters invented this concept back in 82 with ...how should I put it.... a surprising outcome. Most funny story ever. Check out ''Darwin Awards'', Larry Walters. The guy unexpectedly reached 16000 ft, no parachute, all DIY rig.
Wonderful I really want to be in his place and enjoy the amazing flight. God my dream come true.
You sir inspired the movie Up
Is this the guy they had to save because I remember a news story of a eccident of someone with balloons and a yard chair?
EPIC! Mythbusters eat your heart out! They said it couldn't be done but I knew it could! :) Just need enough balloons...
THE FIRST FLYING LAWN CHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YAYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i get a notch in my stomach just by watching this ...
The future of flight eh??? It may take a while to get to your destination but hey you save lots of money heheheh . gr8 stuff
Nice landing flare
Nicely done. You the man!
@Syed ajaz ali, You would probably use a flight tracker and check with nearby airport as cruising planes are over 3 times higher than him and one taking off and landing could be checked with airport or flightradar24.
There is a movie with some guy floating on a lawn chair lol
Who else is here after watching the David Blaine stunt? I have more appreciation for this dude doing it like a badass!
awesome man very awesome congratulations!!!!!!!.I wanna do this some day.seems very relaxing you and the air and only you. it's seems peaceful.I'm obsessed with stuff like this.way to go man I give 1000 likes
he flew over the ocean? Didnt see that any where in the video.
funny cuz 800 feet is when you start to feel it from what the last guy who did this said its when your speech becomes a little different haha
That dudes got balls that clank!...very cool Now im of to watch those crazies in those 'flying squirl" suits
Song- nightlite by bonobo
Only in America can you be a "Balloon Expert" Lol.
Unlimited possibilities.
What a fantastic adventure.
I kind of want to do this, but with just enough helium to float five or ten feet in the air, so I can pole my way along the ground just below me.
@TarProduction 'cept the 50 or so 1's that were cut off at the end!?!?!
Up the next generation! The best thing about this video is
the comments
sweet landing
You are my hero!
Is that John Stockton?
You guys are cool.
that wouldn't be the coolest sport ever
When he touched down, we're those the ejector seat balloons that went skyward?
If it's Top Secret, I don't have a need to know...
brilliant realy enjoyed that you lucky brave man, whats wrong with these hecklers is pure seething jealousy
Larry Walters called.
How does he slow down his descent to the ground?
That had to be an awesome ride..
i would imagine by dumping some of the water that he used as ballast
@XLR8inFERno Each balloon was tied to the craft, so no waste/balloons went into the ocean. Hope that helps!
After landing they shoot more to keep it grounded and a couple bunches fly away, maybe 40-50. (~3:20 mark).
i would have probably pass out when i got to 2 inches.
TheVaporyCoin454 thats what she said
Sick how much money did that cost
jack w you can buy a six balloon set on amazon for 20 bucks
I've always wanted to do this!!!
I will try a balloon bicycle to controly direction....
Epic. Could you see curvature of the earth?
who is the artist singing in the background. would love to know. thanks
Kenneth Brown
what song?
and thanks my kids love this video. i think we have watched it 100 times.
I completely understand
this guy is my hero
Thanks Tim Great Share, I just read something about a guy in Vancouver paper, trying to dive into the Alberta Stampede, I would've never thought to search that one otherwise,,,,,,,,,,,,Broaden My Horizons....(Pun intended) Cheers
I want to try
Wow, this is EXACTLY what I was expecting hahah. That would have been wicked.
I feel like I'm falling watching this!
How much ballons neet for 60 kilos and how much cost helium and ballons for man of 60 kiloos, please answer me...
Lawnchair Larry did it first in 1982 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Walters
Yep, a few people have done this over the years.
