    It touches me deeply that the Dutch families adopt the graves of our battle dead. And pass the duty to honor down to the next generations. As far as I know, no other nation goes this far for our men who forever sleep in the lands they died to liberate. Deep gratitude and respect. Former USAF. St. Louis MO USA 🇺🇸🇳🇱

    I was an Army wife years ago. I live in Texas. This video is AMAZING. And the cemetery is beautiful. It is so touching to me that the Dutch people adopt our fallen soldier's graves and put out flowers for them. It brought me to tears. It is incredible that the Dutch people show so much honor for soldiers who weren't from their country. Thank you for everything you do. I have so much respect for the Dutch people.

    Thank you for doing this video. I have been to the cemetery twice since being stationed in Germany. My great uncle (Walter Parkins) is on the wall of the missing. Based on some information I received from the cemetery staff during my first visit, we have been taking steps to identify his remains. I did not realize that Dutch families sponsor the names of the missing like they do the names and graves. Would be great to find the family that sponsors my great uncle. Thanks again for doing the video!

    Thank you to all the people of the Netherlands for doing this. I have visited this cemetery one time and it was very emotional for me, as both being born in the Netherlands and now living in the United States. Thank you also to all the Dutch citizens who have adopted graves and honor all of our soldiers every year, from one generation to the next.

Thank you for the information i did not have enough time to stay long as we needed to get sci to our ferry in 3 days via Belgium and Holland . Very moving place and I always wondered all my life why there was no American war graves in germany. Now I know why and a wonderfully kept place it is . I have been to the cemetery 3 times now. My uncle, Sgt. Louis J. Glavan, is buried there. I only saw the video for the first time today. What made the video extra special for me was when you went to the 6 Medal of Honor graves and in particular George Peterson's grave. That is because my uncle is buried right next to him, just to the left as you are facing Peterson's grave. What makes things even more interesting is that Uncle Louis was killed on the same day as George Peterson and Walter Will. And Uncle Louis was in the 18 Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division just like George Peterson and Walter Will. I find it to be quite interesting, and quite sad also.

    Excellent, excellent, excellent! Thanks for providing the history and changes that took place in the cemetery after the war. I visited there as a young, oblivious American LT in 1990 while stationed across the border in Geilenkirchen. The grandfather of a friend is buried there and I will share this video with her with the hope it will make her feel closer. Thanks for preserving history.

    My dad was stationed at AFCENT in the 70s and again in the 80s. I remember going to the cemetary in the 4th grade on a field trip and seeing my teacher break down. Her father was buried here and she had seen his grave for the very first time. Very somber moment even as a 9 year old. A beautiful memorial by the Dutch showing appreciation to US military personnel killed on foreign soil.

    Maurice Rose was Jewish, the son and the grandson of a rabbi. Why not a star of David on his grave? To escape persecution he enlisted as a christian.

    • @TheBattlefieldExplorer
      @TheBattlefieldExplorer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, not sure actually. The next of kin were given this choice, no idea why they chose not to us a star of david.

    • @luciusjulius8320
      @luciusjulius8320 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The answer is quite simple. Maurice Rose was carried in official US Army records as a Christian. That's what he chose; therefore, the US Army has no choice but to bury him as a Christian. No one could, after his death, can change what religion he personally chose to be listed as.@@TheBattlefieldExplorer
