  • Swell was beginning to build but it hadn't reached the Mokes just yet. Tossed the drone up to check it out before Paddling out. Grabbed some imagery of a crew of eFoilers having fun!

Hi Ken, Outstanding drone cinematography. You're getting really good at this! ...The Mokes look to be quite some ways out; it must take forever for surfers to get up there! Re. drone footage: You know, some of the palm-size drones they make now have a 'follow' feature where they will trail a subject, at a set distance. It would be really cool to launch one of these from the canoe, and have it follow you; I imagine the 3rd-person shots would likely be stunning. Just an idea. ☺

Thank you. I actually had no itention of loitering at the island. I had my canoe on my truck as was going to just check and go. Ended up flying for about 20 minutes over the break.
As far as the paddle to the Mokes; when it's pumping, you will see quite a few small boats hanging in the channel serving as Aqua-Ubers to the surfers. But, quite a few people do paddle out and good on them. My shoulder injuries from Martial Arts and Motocross racing prevent me from prone paddling at this time in my life...It's about three-quarters of a mile from Lanikai Beach to the Break. If conditions permitted it, it would be kinda cool to do the "follow me" thing and not have to worry about dropping a $1,000 drone and controller into the water...

@@kenjgood "Aqua-Ubers" ...Hehehe. I kind of figured there might be something like this. Re. palm-size drones: the DJI neo is like $250, and it will land and take off from the palm of your hand, no controller needed; I think I might try it one of these days. It's a bit risky, but the payoff might be quite spectacular.
