Could be an electrical connection on the tank or ordometer. Maybe a relay somewhere. Or a defect wire, so measure that continuity in the harness and all connectors in relation the fuel system. Could also be mechanical that the floating mechanism inside the tank is defect. You have to troubleshoot it step by step. An electrical schematic of the bike is found in the Haynes Manual. Good luck.
