Never would of thought of Jim Carrey as Robotnik, but even with only a slight familiarity of the character from the games, he seems to understand the character deeper than anyone I've heard verbalize before.

Jim greatly lacks the iconic physique and voice of Robotnik but to an extent understands the depths of his traits. The motherfucker is pure evil and not a big buffoon.

@@VGMR I agree. I think he probably took note from the Sonic 1 manual which describes him as "Childish, no matter his I.Q.". Not to spoil too much during the short scene of him on the Mushroom World, he looks much more like him, even sporting a pot belly. And you can definitely hear a slight Mike Pollock impersonation in a couple of lines in that scene.
@@ryantreadway9971 He'll need to pack more weight and deepen his voice with a massive side of sinister if he wants us to believe he's Robotnik. That buffoonery bullshit he did throughout the film made the character seem like a goddamn parody.
@@VGMR I'll give ya that. I. never forgot that i was watching Jim carrey. Like an evil Ace Ventura. Hopefully in the sequel both he and Sonic will be more true to their in-game counterparts now that their backstories are established.
What Carrey says about Dr. Robotnik/Eggman not having been nurtured or loved strikes home when you look up Eggman's backstory. His grandfather Gerald Robotnik was a genius who worked with the feds, and Gerald inspired little Eggman to become a scientist, but the man was executed for treason in front of the whole world. Robotnik's inspiration, his idol, his grandfather, the man he looked up to, was condemned and killed by the very same society that profited from the man's work. That's more than enough reasons to hate society even when the feds are paying you top dollar to solve their crap. Whether or not he realized it, Jim Carrey described Robotnik in the Sonic lore rather perfectly.
Not to mention how broken he was after he found out that his wife cheated on him with Shadow the Hedgehog.

Goddamn, never thought of Robotnik this way but then when you looks up Robotniks backstory… Carrey really understands the character and his psychological profile, with a modern twist.
Jim Carrey is a very smart man
Smarts and humor go hand in hand.
But he is authentic, that's his biggest asset.
I think Jim Carrey was a good choice for a mad genius because of how over the top he acts.
I really do love that Jim not only nailed what Robotnik is, but took him into his own and created an entirely new character entirely.
I like how jim carrey explains what he thinks about sonic.
Like the innocents and the electricity of sonic and how it helps with reflexes
I could listen to him talking for hours :)
I am amazed at how seriously Jim is describing his role and the themes in the movie.
Jim has such a fascinating perspective on the character of Robotnik. It's amazing.
My favorite line was “What do I look like, an imbecile? Of course I want a latte. I LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE’EM!!!!!!!!!”

I supported this movie because it's a rare example of Hollywood listening to the people, but Jim Carey's performance makes me want to revisit it again

Funny how two of the actors who portrayed Robotnik/Eggman best were both named Jim.

Sonic did what Mario could never manage, have an actual successful movie about him.
Because the Mario movie had absolutely nothing to do with the games. If it had been a cyberpunk dystopia movie with Dino-humans named anything other than " Mario Bros" that movie would've been a somewhat acceptable sci fi B movie. As it was trying to pass it off as Mario Bros was what made it suck.

Sonic 2 can be sonic adventure dx made in the year 2,022 or 2,023. Sonic 3 can be sonic adventure 2 battle made in the year 2,025 or 2,026. Sonic 4 can be sonic heros all with Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik. Dr Robotnik should create metal sonic along w scratch & grounder. Knuckles & others need to have good hip hop songs like this movie gave us. Wiz khalifa speed me up is awesome as hell. Sonic 2,020 is awesome as hell.

Great interview, one thing tho, given that a 100 IQ is well within average and anything below 90 would put you in the below average to low category, triple digits isn't very impressive, if he'd said with a 200+ IQ, that would sound terrifying because he'd be a super genius!

I was more interested with Mr. Eggman than sonic. So satified at the very last scene when he goes bald. Good thing they did no cast vin diesel.
