Awesome is an understatement. I love the designs they do on their knives. I saw one with a black handle and a golden compass design that was very impressive.
The dust on the inside is probably the best compliment you could pay that knife. TBH, Spartan dropped off of my radar ages ago, no doubt helped by the new Chinese wave at the time. Glad to see they're still making great knives, staying true to their roots. Definitely an heirloom quality piece, after you've forgotten about an awful lot of other "flavor de jour" knives.

Great Video, Beautiful Knife! I just bought a SHF Viking Model.. This is a beautiful knife that I will Carry and Use.. It looks very well made... When you said Chris Reeve annd Hinderer, I felt a smile come to my face! There's something very simplistic, yet ornate about this knife.. I look forwarad to receiving it.
I had no idea these are that big. I always thought it was right in line with a large Sebenza. Thanks for the video.

If I don't hear "An exciting new knife review", I know it's gonna be trouble.
This is a great build, you can see it coming through the screen. That particular one is too callow and dressy for me but a good design.

Hey Doctor Frunkey any hot spots as a result of the contouring in the scales?
Putting it lightly, the Crusader design is not my cup of tea. Looks like a well built knife though.
love these knives, both engraved (that's more personal pref of course - I don't like all the designs) but that Plague Doctor got me - and I wanted to commemorate what a shit show that time of our life was. I'm glad the newer versions having matching pivots on both sides now. My only 2 gripes are the same ones that every one has - no Choil, and the cut out for the lock bar is a friggin canyon, but aside from that - whooeee. amazing. I just got mine for $395 - stonewashed blue ano... the damascus on an engraved knife just looks too busy to me. either blade or scales need to be clean... NOT both. knife vomit.

how a $400+ standard version knife with no lock insert no internal milling win knife of the year is beyond me
Titanium on the lock face is carbidized. An insert and milling compromise the integrity of a hard use knife.
@@gallowsgradient show me a lock fail or blade play due to the compromised insert, till then im gon take that as bs sry

@@kreed4 The lock face is carbidized, AND so is the blade tang where it interfaces with the lock face? Early models had lock stick issues with Only the lock face carbidized. Spartan decided to fix this issue by carbadizing the blade tang, instead of fixing it Properly by installing a steel insert. After some use this has created Major problems. It's a beautiful knife, but there are other engineering issues with this knife as well. Stick with Chris Reeve or Hinderer for that amount of money!
@@scothighlander9864 Thanks for the color! Yeah, seems like a big miss and one easy to fix. Seems like they are spending more of their time and marketing dollars on laser engravings (which, to be fair, they do really well).

I like the level of detail you put into your reviews and highlight what is good about a knife, but all knives will have something bad. This knife for example is completely lacking a sharpening choil and you did not even mention it. The bad should be highlighted in a review along side the good so that viewers can make a more informed purchase.
You will find that most of my videos feature negative aspects of knives. If and only if they are relevant. The lack of a sharpening choil on this blade is a subjective problem based on your opinion of knives. It is not worth me making a negative comment when it is not a real problem. You can see it has no choil, the video does that for me.
@@DoctorFrunkey not a negitive comment at all. Just point out that saying the video does it for you is assuming everyone watching your videos has that level of knowledge. If someone that is just getting into knives stumbled across the video they may not notice it has no choil, because they don't know the purpose of one yet. Simply pointing out additional things like this may help to educate beginners in our hobby is all I'm saying.
