Bruichladdich 16YO Chateau D'yquem Cask 'End of Message' - Whisky Wednesday

- Where do I even begin with this.
A cask strength Bruichladdich, fully matured in an ex-Chateau D'yquem cask, and is something that even Bruichladdich themselves didn't have much information on.
When I was first given this bottle I was convinced that it was peated. There was something earthy and smoked about it. After some time open, as well as a sample in the glass, that smokiness was put to bed. This is definitely unpeated Laddie stock.
Between the variety of sweet and savoury flavours you can attain from unpeated Bruichladdich distillate, then the insane push of Chateau D'yquem influence. This is one of the best things I've ever had the privilege of smelling.
It is expensive, let's not skip around that. It's £220 per bottle and is only available from one retailer that is linked below. But this is one of the most impressive unpeated Islay whiskies I've had, it is precisely what I want and in some cases demand from Bruichladdich.

I very much enjoy your reviews of whiskies, I wish we could get more of these in the States.
Thank you, that means a lot to me. It's a shame the retailer of this bottle doesn't ship stateside. But the odd Laddie Private Cask bottling does appear on auction sites for a bargain these days.
Very unique but a punchy price tag. Really interesting to watch your review of it in case it ever crosses my path 🤞
Aye, big price tag but very interesting to taste. Very privileged.
Sounds fascinating, but 220 pounds is… extremely ambitious. There are many private cask bottlings available at auction for reasonable prices. Love the cask and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy presentation
The buyers market is strong on auctions! The best thing about the secondary market.
I know you say it is very unusual, but is there any other example you can think of a whisky having that kind of ‘pseudo peat’? I can’t get my head around what you mean by that.
Not exactly this, but Loch Lomond 14YO is unpeated but finishes with a whisp of smoke. But I've never come across anything like this before.
Snoring dogs only make TH-cam videos better.
Pity Drink Finder doesn't ship to the States. Thanks for the review.
Ah, sorry about that! I hate it when shipping gets in the way.
