Die Railers (engl.: the Railers) are an “Early-Jazz” band from Berlin.
The band name mainly stands for a sense of life, this feeling that overcomes you whilst being on a train journey, watching the countryside pass by and the worries of everyday life slowly diminishing with every kilometer.
There is hardly a music genre that represents this feeling better than the southern states of America during the last century.
This is why the Jazz from New Orleans (“Louis Armstrong and his hot five/seven), Oldtime (The Carter Family), Folk (Elisabeth Cotton) and Music Groups like “The cats and the fiddle” and “The Mils Brothers” have majorly influenced the music of The Railers.
Often, they would turn any bridge, any train-platform or any market place into their stage, because their music doesn´t require any amplification.
Their lively songs, supported just by their voices and instruments, create an immediate and thrilling listening experience which mesmerises all their listeners.
Each musician studied their instrument in different parts of Europe and they all independently moved to the city of Berlin.
The founder of the band, Matthias Baldwin, who´s namesake coincidently was one of the most important steam train manufacturers in America during the 19th century, had the vision to create this band in 2017 and brought the different members of the band together.
Since then the four individuals have grown together as a band and are constantly working on new arrangements and compositions.
The Railers regularly perform at various squares in Berlin, Swing-Dance events (i.e. TheJamsCats, Alter roter Löwe rein), Cafes (i.e. Kulturcafe Neukölln) and bigger stages (i.e. Theater am Rand).
In the summer of 2019, The Railers recorded their first album “Tales from the Rails”, which will be released in spring 2020, and their first video section “Railroad Session”.
