    I populated the reverb section, and installed a reverb tank on mine. Been working for 20 + years so far!

    Hi, just watching your video. Thanks for sharing. It’s got some useful moments for someone like me, who’s about to repair exactly this model amp, but hasn’t done anything like this before. Those plastic nut removal tools (ugly as sin, but very practical!) look useful. A couple of comments for you: my primary use, when I was using this amp daily, was to amplify backing-tracks when teaching drum lessons. And I used the aux phono input all the time! I have several other 15W (or smaller) guitar amps, all bought primarily to do the same job - play music in drum lessons at a (non-headphone wearing) level that can compete with kids walloping a acoustic drum kit. This was easily the best amp in its class for doing the job I needed. One thing you didn’t show in your video, is how to remove the plastic pots, without either breaking them, or the board. Anyway, cheers, Seb.

    THANKS , PAL ! I HAVE ENJOYED YOUR LITTLE VIDEO OF THIS , OBVIOUSLY GREAT LITTLE AMP .. I OWN MY ACOUSTIC 134 FOR ALMOST 50 YEARS .. YES QUITE OLD.. AND I DO DETECT MUCH PROBLEMS WITH IT .. MIGHT NEED TO GET IT FIXED , OR BUY 1 OF THESE LITTLE AMPS.. JUST EVERYONE PLAYS THESE THROUGH A $3,000 AMP , SO YOU DO NOT GET THE CORRECT SOUND DIRECTLY FROM THE LITTLE AMP .. THANKS AGAIN..

    I fitted a speaker out socket to one of these effectively turning it into a head and ran it through a 4x12 cab, the difference was pleasantly shocking.

      Well for me I agree with Glenn Fricker, most of the tone is from the speaker more than anything else. At the jam night last week I used for the souncheck my EHX .22 Calibre amp and everyone agreed it sounded good, but it was more tha sound of my 50/50 cab (I greenback and 1 old goodmans audium) .

      @@MatthewNorthMusic Yesterday I used the knowledge you imparted to repair a Frontman 15G that I acquired during the week. The input jack was intermittently operative but mysteriously I found no dry joints on the circuit board. It turned out that a previous owner had jammed some aluminium foil into the jack, presumably in an attempt to solve the problem. The foil was removed with tweezers and I cleaned and retensioned the contacts. WOrks nicely now.

      Well I haven't recorded with this actual one, but the one I owned with the built in effects I have recorded with in the past for the tremolo that it had. With clean tone & Strat really nice.

    Thank you for this. My amp had a hiss when turned on. Any advice to quiet it down?

    I just bought a Bullet 15 amp. Very similar to this, but older. It's imperative that you use a GROUNDED OUTLET with your amp. Otherwise it just hums awfully. I was using a terminal strip plugged into another 2 wire extension. Oops.
    Also, populating the circuit for reverb on these is not enough. There is a block in the cabinet which has "springs" in it which creates the reverb from the speaker vibrations. Nice video.

    My 15g has crackles, and the static becomes unbearable if i turn up the gain and drive volume, does anyone know a fix for this?

    Excellent video Matt. I have the same type amp given to me by my grandson, my problem is, when I turn it on it has an electrical grounding sound, any ideas? Do you know where replacement parts can be purchased. Feedback appreciated. Thanks

    • @MatthewNorthMusic
      @MatthewNorthMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I normally buy parts online, if you are in the UK bright components are very good as well as the usual CPc, RS etc. Otherwise EBay.

    I have a slightly dif model, a bit bigger with more screws. I took all the screws out and I am trying to get the back off with a Phillips screw driver. Is there anyway to get the back off without damaging the appearance l from wedgeing a screw driver in there?

    Nice work. I just this version n of amp just recently. And the distortion is very scratchy. I'll do what you did, get some contact cleaner into it and check the circuit board. I'll report back soon .😢😂

    Great video cheers !! I was wondering if you think the new frontman 20g has the same electronics as this 15g you fixed ? I like the sound of the 15g but the 20 has the better jack to connect my phone to it. I would think they used same electronics and maybe just used a little better speaker to get the 5 more watt ? Anyway sorry for long question 🙂

    I have just the Amp Head that I purchased from E-Bay all the component leads look rusted and some are actually Corroded completely apart. I am going to replace all the Capacitors with Rubycon, Nichicon or a good Quality Brand name Capacitor. There are two TL072 Op Amps and One BA4560 Op Amp that needs replacing - I have used the 4562 with good results before. Would it be alright to change all three Op Amps where they are all the same? What Op Amp would you recommend putting in the Amp Head - The TL072 state that they are JFET Op Amps so with the other be a direct drop-in replacement since they are not JFET Type Op Amps?

    • @MatthewNorthMusic
      @MatthewNorthMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never had a problem with any TL072s. They all work fine.

  • @peteinozi

    Good video , thanks. I have a brand new one of these , it seems to work alright , but it always gives out a loud "crack" through the speaker when it's turned off at the switch on the RH side , even without the guitar connected . Any ideas ?

    • @MatthewNorthMusic
      @MatthewNorthMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      shouldn't do that if new normally it indicated iffy switch making a poor initial contact. or failing capacitors in the Power Supply. If its new id take it back.

    How hard would it be to add reverb to this amplifier??

    • @MatthewNorthMusic
      @MatthewNorthMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Id say it was possible as the PCB was laid out to have reverb, if you found the right bits and added a tank it may work, but to be honest, its a bit of a pointless exercise, unless you wanted to do it for fun.

    Rubbish plastic input jack breaks within a year. Sounds ok, but early Peavey Rage is built like a tank and will last forever.

    • @MatthewNorthMusic
      @MatthewNorthMusic  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is the same sockets that are on most of that range of fender amplifier. If they break then I would suggest that's more based on the user.
