love ya!
just finding out now that the pharell song was also a drake diss track😭😭
drake cant even watch despicable me
Yo Jonah can you do a review on this movie called Cats & Peachtopia? There’s only one review of it ever, and you can only find the movie on Tubi (Though you can watch it in its original Chinese dub on youtube somewhere)
Nah even pharrel dissing drake
There's a movie you should review called Cats & Peachtopia.
@@JonahWho Thas crazy
i will say, watching the original despicable me feels odd knowing the rest of illumination's catalog, cause it feels like an actual movie and not a product
The second film also feels like an actual movie as well. At least the Minions are actually used for a plot-relevant reason in the villain’s scheme and not just in a pointless subplot which is mainly an excuse for typical Minion gags.
@@hunterolaughlinEXACTLY this is why DM2 is my favorite out of the series

I left the theater feeling personally attacked and violated
Real
I felt empty.
the only accurate thing about this movie is that Vector would indeed floss unironically
Thats the only good thing about this movie
feel like he should've done his iconic thrust of death instead
@@toadude "thrust of death" that's a new one
I tend to play 'Devil's advocate' for a lot of media like this. Not this time. All the other Despicable Me movies? "Sure, give it a chance..." This one just had me saying "Why?" from the first ad I saw. Mainly because of that baby, why does the 'canon' need that? Why can't he just have his adopted family? That was a wholesome and sweet thing, but now we have 'obligatory sequel baby.'
Just what i was thinking. Not every person who adopts kids needs to have a biological child……
@@ihavenoideawhatimdoing4especially since the movies largely fail to give his daughters meaningful characterization besides “oldest one” “chaos gremlin” and “cute one”
if anything the introduction of a bio child could make for an interesting character development thing about the girls feeling replaced now that there’s a younger and biological child in the family, but they refuse to age them up so it doesn’t work either
Ugh, it's only a matter of time before we get a Despicable Me 5, huh?
Give it 2 years
I think we’ll get a Minions 3 first
And then ruins the end of the 4th *Even More*
Because (In my opinion) it's like the *"Final"* because it shows everyone gathering up at the end.
People really like the first one... so probably yes. Yes they will
THE ANALOGY AT THE BEGINNING IS KILLING ME
its so accurate its kind of sad

Made me hungery 🤤
The Gorls are the only children Gru needs
Victor flossing feels somehow in character for him, idk why
Honestly I think the “random girl” was going to be like his daughter or something he was unaware of but they pulled back hella fast and gave him a baby because deadbeat dad was “too” evil..
It would have been very interesting if that was the case. I had thought that too. I assumed she knew which is why she had beef with Margo and I assumed she was the one that put the glitter explosion in her locker. I assumed she was salty Gru took in a girl her age but not her and that's also why she wanted to be like him to get his validation or something or prove she's better. Plus Gru having a kid he wasn't aware about makes sense since he used to be "Despicable" a literal jerk before he redeemed himself. I also assumed that's why the neighbor didn't like him cuz he also recognized Gru or something. But nope it was all unrelated and suddenly Poppy gets along with Margo after the heist despite having been a jerk to her earlier 😭
3:31 To be fair with the Mario movie, that film has plenty of other unique and distinct locations so I feel like Brooklyn looking like a generic city works well to contrast with the other unique and vibrant locations that the Mushroom World has.
The lyrics of the song probably confused you because it is also a Drake diss track in disguise.
no it’s not 💀
nAiLy?!!1!1!1
When that villain said he has a fascination with insects, I legit understood 'incest' and didn't even question it. Just went 'Yeah, checks out' and left it at that.
This studio is the anti Studio Ghilibi
At least this studio didn't make another anti-environment story, like we really need more of those.
@@baalfgames5318 you mean lorax, yes?
@@piotrwisniewski70 @piotrwisniewski70 I mostly meant three movies...
Princess Mononoke, which shows the human "villain" as noble and having a relatable cauae while depicting nature as vile and horrible. This seems to be the big reason people love this move. "Oh, it shows the GOOD side of humans/the HORRIBLE side of nature."
Ponyo, a movie with a misanthropic villain, which is typically used to tell "nature/non-human life just has to tolerate humanity's BS" messages.
But especially The Boy and the Heron, which straight up demonizes birds and makes humans out to be misunderstood angels.
@@baalfgames5318 aaah
I misunderstood you original comment, sorry
@@baalfgames5318 To be fair Princess Mononoke is less about “nature evil” and more about “humans have the capacity to do truly awful things but have good motives.” Princess Mononoke (the character) is just in her hate for humans for taking the land and poisoning the wildlife. Lady Eboshi is just in her want to give people a better life and activrly heals the disabled while giving them jobs and importance. Both sides are correct. Both sides are also incorrect. Lady Eboshi is encroaching on nature and yet people suffer without the advancement of technology. the women she gave jobs to would have had to resort to prostitution once again to survive. Princess Mononoke isnt anti environment, its a morally grey depiction of what we would expect to be good vs evil and twists it into narrative that doesnt bias the lives of one people over another
Despicable Me 4: 😐
Pharell for some reason cooking up the best song ever: 😎
It’s not the writers. It’s either the director or the company ceo. The writers weren’t allowed to make great ideas.
Yes finally someone mentioned that song
the minions are a yellow tumor on an otherwise good movie about found family, and with every new installment it grows bigger and bigger
A big problem with the film is the over-abundance of kid-appeal characters that appear in the film. It makes films like Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, which had 4 kid-appeal characters, look small: The Gorls, Kyle, 3's Goat, the neighbour, the Honey Badger, & Gru Jr., and that's not even counting The Minions and their brand new marketable forms.
you shouldve ended this video with a dance party and a cameo of everyone subscribed to you
i like the way you think
@@ditzyblues thank you i thought of this myself
shit
and add a song from the 70s / 80s over it
How have the girls somehow not changed in the slightest, it's been *years*
First movie: Great! second movie: Good! third movie: Alright! fourth movie: Terrible!
I never liked the movies or the minions, but it says a lot that the minions didn’t start my burning passion of hatred that I have for them now, until the third movie.
I completely forgot that the first despicable me was *F U N N Y*.
This movie is like Secret life of pets 2. There's too much side plots and none of them are fully developped, the humor is bad, the villains are boring. The animation and music are fine BUT it's not enough to make a good film 😐
It feels like they were trying to tie everything together, but it turned into a mess of frayed ends that seem like they're heading somewhere, but never did.
I recently rewatched Despicable Me (1) and I cant believe how far its gone. They arent movies anymore
Nah, I could tell which shot was from which movie as soon as you showed the Illumination shots.
The film was so bad that everyone in the cinema room went out
Can't wait to watch this crap. Migration is probably one of the better things they've made tho, it's recent. Even with Migration it's still obvious that Illumination rushed the whole thing but it's clear someone was trying to put their passion into the project. That being the director, Benjamin Renner.
It's clear it could have been better. The plot is just a simple road trip so there isn't a gazillion plots happening at once which is nice but it's still lacking character dynamics and such.
Rainwing spotted!
0:29 not bacon but prosciutto or some other authentic smoked meat would probably fit this analogy better.
Despicable me 4? Sounds crazy. As far as I know there is and will only ever be one Despicable me.
I mean… Pharell did cook with the song tbh
The only reason I saw this movie was because my brothers wanted to see it and I was like "why not". I'm pretty sure that this was the only movie I've ever seen that I wouldn't have regrated walking out of the theater halfway through. But both my brothers and a group of kids in front of us absolutely loved it, so this is going to be far from the last minion's movie we'll see.
I did think that the minion in the vending machine was funny though, that was the only good joke.
I had to see this movie because my youngest brother wanted to see it, I struggled to sit still and was yawning because of how bored I was. I left the theater disappointed of how fast paced it was, and all the side lots. It didn’t feel like 90 minutes to me.
Right when you where saying “things that people like” before you said minions, it got completely cut off by an advert for wuthering waves (my ACTUAL favourite new rpg)
How is vector in the prison lol
The AVL probably tracked him down while he was still on Mars
Time to incorporate the Vector Grimwalker Theory.
Honestly, can we just feel bad for Ralph, the one eyed minion? He gets picked on by his other two supposed friends (Phil and Ron), gets stuck in a vending machine, continues to get picked on by his friends, spends practically the rest of the movie in there to the point where he even gets left behind when the family moves back to their original home, and when he finally gets out he accidentally activates the "lockdown" feature in their new house that will leave him stuck in said house for goodness only knows how long...
On a COMPLETELY related note, Could you convince Caleb Hyles to do a cover for your version of This is the Thanks I Get?
This is egregiously off topic but is the dragon fella in the corner inspired by wof or is it just a dragon
yes
@@JonahWho sick
Thought it might have been, but I wasn't sure. nice
@@ORB1424also off topic but I love your pfp did not expect to see a ninjago pfp here xD
The fact that this movie came out 7 years after the third movie really says everything that needed to be said. It's just a money grab. The first two movies were good. The first Minions is nothing but dumb meandering slapstick but my 7 y/o ass enjoyed it so fine, I'll let it slide. And then the third movie was objectively the worst by then. (Minions excluded that's its own thing) At least the third movie was passable and combined with the other two to make a perfectly fine trilogy in my eyes. There was no need to continue past the third movie and it shows. Sure, had Dru been the villain like the third movie ends, then fine, but no. We get cockroach man instead. I haven't yet watched this movie or Minions 2, but just it coming out 7 years after and completely forgetting how the third one ended is enough for me to dismiss it entirely. Screw you Illumination can't wait for Despicable Me 5 in 2029.
I remember me and my partner watched this and thought about how this movie could have been improved:
Gru does not reveal to the villains he works for the AVL but gets the cockroach guy arrested, the cockroach is the only guy who realizes it.
The roach does not have a giant flying ship but instead is preparing for a fight with Gru and has roaches going through all sewers looking for him.
The minions are left to their vacation area similar to the second movie, no super hero sub plot.
While in witness protection Gru is a repair guy not a solar panel salesmen. NO SOCIAL AWKWARDNESS, he's a confident person.
Gru is still caught by the kid and goes on their heist, I loved that part because he's capable of his work even with a baby bag.
The dean goes to find gru not for revenge but for "Hey, you stole my well guarded pet, I want to congratulate you and get my pet back"
My logic for the villain school is if you don't want something stolen you don't guard it, and the more guarded something is the better it is to take.
I like to think that the writers gave the producers a early and unfinished draft by accident instead of the final script, and when they realized there mistake it was probably to late.
you mean to tell me that masterpiece of a song aka double life tricked me into thinking that movie wouldve been better than it actually was
Now, on the films side: We got a fire song
when the scene with the super minions or whatever came on i LITERALLY rocked back and forth in my chair and audibly groaned. i was watching it with my sibling and they asked what's up and i was like "i don't want to watch the minions part!!!!!!" glad to hear we didn't miss shit. also i don't consider anything past the first movie to be canon minus the minions movies cuz idrc
The second film is the only other film good enough to be considered canon. I feel like you Illumination haters are overhating on the second Despicable Me and it’s honestly getting very ANNOYING.
@@hunterolaughlin that's alright if you think that. i'll start off by saying, i'm not trying to start an argument here. we can both have different opinions. i'm not an "illumination hater", i'm a Lucy hater. I hate Gru's wife. imo, they have no chemistry, she doesn't even seem like a woman Gru would like, and their romantic feelings evolved way too fast. and it makes me angry how the girls call Lucy "mom" but almost never call Gru "dad". the only time i remember any of them call Gru dad was when Margo did but that's only because they were talking to their neighbor in the 4th movie and undercover. like yeah obviously it would be weird to call your dad by his name then. am i being pissy? yes 100%. but honestly it's not that deep. i can for sure say i hate the minions though. they just love to shove the minions into whatever even if it doesn't EFFECT THE PLOT???
Putting notifications for ur videos ---> so worth it ❤😊 thanks jonah!!
i just watched this movie- my thoughts are pretty similar. i felt like i kept waiting for the main plot and it never happened, just a jumble of other things.
as a mom of a 5 month old i thought the idea of them having a baby would be cute, i was excited to see. but i was really disappointed. i was expecting there to be more scenes.. or any really, (there are 0) of the girls interacting the new baby. i thought adopted kids accepting a birth child into the family could be an interesting concept. but instead, the girls never once interact with or say anything about the baby. its.. very odd. its like they wanted to add the baby to the film without adding it into the world. also another thing that bugs me, the baby appears to be around a year old, so the other kids should be at least 2 years older by now. yet theyre all still the same age.
It definitely feels like this movie was originally going to be a series of direct to streaming episodes that were then spliced together into a Frankenstein monster of a movie. I say this because there’s so many plot threads don’t even connect or resolve, and the ending feels like a tv show “finale” with the song they used.
I genuinely believe this, and that someone higher up said “actually, a movie would make more money. Do that instead” and the team had to scramble to cram it all together in like two years.
Talking about infants in animated big movies, we got a prime sample like Monsters Inc & The Incredibles (as you mentioned the baby from first Ice age film).
I'm so happy I didn't watch this. My grandma was very excited to watch this movie but she kinda forgot to watch it so she never had to witness this absolute trash can of a movie.
I didn’t mind the movie when I watched it (though I didn’t want to go to it in the first place lol) but I kinda realised it was trash when they could just… turn the baby back? I thought it’d be a cool plot point to keep the baby as half cockroach, but they reversed the changes like it was no big deal. It felt cheap and rushed and overall not very enjoyable.
I listened to the whole intro with a straight face and finally paused just at the end to ask ‘What the f does this have to do with the movie??’ 💀
Money
good point
@@JonahWho 1 will always be a gem, the first of its kind.
I watched that movie and though it was meh, and the very next day i went and saw a Shrek Musical in a theatre in a cozy small town and it was FAR better than DE4. I laughed more duing the musical than during all the minions and despicable me movies combined.
I still can't believe people still go see sequals to sequals, I mean they even stoppped trying to name them different names to explain why they are different in some way, they just slap a number on it and claim its a new movie.
I mean I was looking at a list of public domain films while ago, and I remembered seeing *actual* names for sequels and sequels to sequels., and was amazed that the all like 4 movies in like this batman knockoff all had, well, a name.
Also imagine if book writers started doing the same thing, like imagine reading Nancy Drew, or Murder she Wrote, or The Boxcar Children and instead of individual names per book title, each book only had an extra number value, like Nancy Drew 3, Nancy Drew 4, I mean remember when they actually tried to atleast name the sequals like AnchorMan 2 the Ledgun...ledgoin...legion....uhh.. led-uh-gen, now it would be rare for a movie title to even do that.
All in all they should just get rid of the minions.
Karaoke ending! (ending 3/11)
Love u Jonah, fire as always, can't wait to see you more at Purdue
had to do a double take cause at first i was confused how a random stranger knew where i’m going to school😭
15:00 weirdly enough he is the second roach themed villain I've seen in media
Only thing was good was Double Life. the fact it was a sneak diss at Drake makes it better
The weird ending reminds me of the credits to the nut job (i think) where everyone does the Gangnam style dance
As much as I hate this movie Vector doing the floss is amazing
I liked the song, “double life” from this movie.
I haven’t seen the movie, but that’s the only thing i can say.
8:35 W animation. Illumination really upped their background game!
It was pain watching this movie, I stopped halfway through. I thought I could get through it but after a while I was just thinking “why I’m I here, why am I watching this”
I know you heard the rumors, you must get over to it right away🗣🗣🔥‼️‼️‼️
This is funnier than the entire movie
The Rabbids are better than the Minions.
3:38 of course it looks the same it’s 3/4 New York City
i- yeah?
@@JonahWho yah :p they over use NYC so much
Bro this movie was so short and the others were like 2 hours long and this one was 1 hour 10 seconds
The fact that the name of the movie has nothing to do with the actual movie
“They literally just sing a song for no reaso-“
Gets a Levi’s ad with music right after vro said reason.
(13:13 - 13:23) 😂
But yeahhh, I wanted to watch the movie, but this made me see what the movie is about, so I ain’t gonna bother watching it. Making once, but idk yet.
I’m having a bad bad day
COME ON THAT ENDING WAS PEAK 😍
True
I'm not gonna lie, seeing (almost) EVERY villain from the previous movies, Minions movies included, making a cameo at the end was a strangely surreal experience
Illumination doesn’t need to try to make goods movie they already make a lot of money with these movies
What I meant to say illumination doesn’t care if they make bad movies they make a lot of money of these movies
This is what we get when the general public keeps rewarding Illumination for making mid movies.
Probobly would have been better if it was a series
More screen time for each of the plot lines and the last episode could have been a better approach to the final act
THE FUVKING MAFIA VILLAIN GUY FROM THE MEGAMIND SHOW
THE- WHY US HE THERE??
what was that ending 😭
Thank you for taking this bullet and filling us in on a movie I had no intention to ever watch, and now never have to WOO!!!
Love your work, keep it up!
On an unrelated note...can I pet your character? Maybe give them a little scritch behind the ear? x3
My personal opinion on the ending was alright. It felt like a final closure to the franchise. (which I doubt they won't make more) The song choice would've been fine if they didn't make it into a cover! The cameos to the characters from previous movies were a bit confusing but overall, it was ok.
It’s so bright because brighter animation = better animation
I'm totally with you on not following Illuminations output until they lock in and start making good movies. I might not even see any of the upcoming Mario movies.
i must say, i just finished watching this video (very good btw) and you sound a lot like kurtis conner
you can write a good family movie that has something for everyone, from little kids to adults. its how you can keep the adult's attention while having to sit through their toddler watching the movie on repeat. the incredibles is a great example of that. i honestly like the incredibles more as an adult then i did when i was a kid because it has a relatable conflict for many adults including myself. maybe reaching for the magnum opus of pixar is a bit out of the league of illumination so instead ill use the first despicable me movie, they were cooking when they made that film. its not my favorite movie by any means but its a well rounded movie that has a lot of things all ages can look for. i guess they realized they didnt need to cook when they saw how much money they can milk from the 40 year old facebook moms with the minions. they saw the first movie as a golden goose and instead of making good sequels or none at all, they can just lazily milk it for everything its worth. the plot for this one felt AI generated
Tbh I thought Poppy’s dad was Máxime Le Mal’s brother or something bc they kinda looks similar (I’m mostly talking about their hair), and that Gru’s mission was going to be, after Máxime escaped, they found out he has a brother, so they try to get Information from him, to find Máxime. Maybe they could’ve done some with Margo trying to be poppy’s friend, and made a twist near the end that poppy new all along of gru and Margo being spy’s and sides with her uncle but idk
Please cover the movie “Deep” from 2017, that movie has a “certain scene” that felt like it was one of the writers’ badly disguised kink
The only good thing I can think of about this movie is the song “I know you heard the rumours~” and also that it’s a drake diss track
can we just stop expecting illumination to make good movies
Dude wtf are you putting on carbonara
(The video is amazing btw)
Great video and certainly my favorite Despicable Me 4 review
I thinj the movies rat ar just called minions and rise of gru an d despicable me 1 and 2 are the goatiest ones
the baby gave me jack jack vibes from the trailer and the fact the baby defeats the villain while being kidnapped.... im not saying illumination directly copied the incredibles but the superhero baby was done already in a better movie
also i thought vector was trapped on the moon wtf? lol
Well, weirdly enought in italy this film haven't came out yet, but just from every youtuber recention i feel violated, and my biggest issue, is the main antagonist, i didnt saw the movie yet, but from the clips i was just offended
1 atleast in the italian version, he have a really sterotyped french accent, but still fine(kinda)
2, i dont like his "true" form, hes just a a human with a coackroch body, thats not a valid design for me (with clothes to, he has atleast some good tastes)
3 this villan had probably the most potential of every villan, hes supposed to be the most evil villan, so why don't give him this actual cruel thing, like, idk, make the film maybe a more mature and make him kill people, idk,
4 his idk, sister? Girlfriend? have no reason to esist +she ugly, i mean, love is subjective, but... C mon
And i can keep going....
I would say it is subversive in the same way the last jedi was subversive. The franchise has never seen such a low standard
Hey it was fun to watch while drunk I guess
Im having a had bad day. It’s about time that I get my way 😈
If I'm not mistaken, cash grab movies like Sing, Despicable Me sequels, and the Mario Movie have all made more money than Spider verse and Puss in Boots. The only solution is to stop the massive audiences who are okay with mediocrity.
Carbonara is the goat prove me wrong
Honestly this movie doesn’t make sense and it hurts
