Can someone explain to me what IBIS is TRYING to do? My general impression is that it is trying to isolate the foreground object so that it remains relatively stable but to do so it's doing some super weird stuff to the rest of the frame that I don't understand.

    • @pcofranc
      @pcofranc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@scrow9 No. IBIS is physically moving the sensor to offset movements of the camera. On a tripod IBIS has nothing to do as the camera is stable. However, wide-angle lenses cause problems for IBIS it senses the distortion in the corners as camera shake and tries to correct for it. search TH-cam for IBIS for a visual of this process.

The idea that "the button should change the setting, not just open the menu" is so obvious to the point of being painful - I would love to be able to just press a button to cycle through focus
modes . There's a similarly stupid behaviour on the XS10, where if you use the blank dial for ISO, the first spin of the ring 'opens the menu' before then allowing the ISO to be changed rather than just changing the ISO.

    • @p3rrypm

I had the XT4. I have the X-H2S. You are pretty accurate on all accounts. The autofocus for eyes/people is vastly improved. It's not as good as Sony, but it's oh so close. I have a Sony A74 which has crazy amazing autofocus, and I have to say the X-HS2 is very very close. It's simply not an issue anymore on that front. I just rented the Fuji 75-300 to film some birds at 4K 120. The 1.29X crop still gives you great looking detail and color, and gets you that much closer. It looks great. The bird autofocus is not as good as on the A74, but frankly its no where near perfect on the Sony, which along with the Canon likely do Bird Autofocus better than others. I usually simply have the Fuji do its Autofocus thing, and then manually adjust focus. No need touch the MF buttons, as the Fuji has a Manual Assist setting I leave on by default. The THING that drives me crazy with the Fuji is the damn exposure/corrections adjustment you see whenever you zoom in and out in video. It's on EVERY zoom lens. Even the new fantastic Tamron 17-70 lens. I have heard its not exposure correcting that is the issue, but that the camera is applying lens correcting as you zoom in and out. Apparently Fuji hasn't figured out how to do this like every other camera out there has. The IBIS is better than the XT4. Its not nearly as jerky, but it does happen here and there, but less often, and much less intensely. It also does much better at not having as much wobble. Its still there with a wide lens like the 13mm Viltrox, but it's much improved. I hope that helps.

Why the need for the Xh2S if you already had the A7IV, if I may ask? Coming from an XT2, I was eagerly waiting for the Xh2S but with this price tag paying for some functionalities I don't need, I'm also looking at other FF options. The A7IV is one of them with the R6/R5 or Z6III (hopefully later this year).

The a74 is almost perfect frankly. I can’t really fault it. The autofocus and Slog 3 is amazing. It’s got no magic. It’s not fun. It’s technically incredibly close to perfect though. I love Fuji cameras, and the X-H2S has the Fuji magic and the features and autofocus make it the fun and creative choice for me. All of these cameras will create beautiful video though.

I you choose "ALL" for the AF Mode setting, then you can just use your command dial to increase the size of the box and it will keep going and cycle through each mode. What I keep realizing as you rifle through cameras is that none of these companies really give serious consideration to vlogging for the video functionality. They're all trying to make Hollywood films. So, my question is: Which little action camera is going to come along and be the panacea? Not sure if this is a feature XH2s newly introduced to the XH2s or if it existed prior, but you can set it to AF+MF mode in the menu, which will continuously track in video then you can turn the focus ring if you want to manually focus, then to go back to autofocus you just hit the button you’ve assigned as AF On. @@doghouseriley4732 It's a trade off... coming from a software engineer who uses Macs for the recording/photo studio and PC's for Automation. My first Mac Pro Tower (08) I didn't stop using till 2019. That's a phenomenal return, same so far for my 15 Macbook Pro. Having tried to switch the family to PC's recently, we had to get 2 motherboards replaced on our Lenovo top of the line P1's within a 6 month period. I've now got a screaming M1 Mac Mini that outperforms my friend's Mac Pro "cheese-grater" (and for 1/3 of the cost of my Lenovo). I remember when the iPhone came out and how quickly it's innovation changed the entire phone/media industry. If Apple were to actually come out with an "iCam", it would probably have a similar impact. Smart phones in general have taken an enormous bite out of camera-centric entities. Currently Apple's lowest tier Macbook Air / Mini / and iPhone SE are so capable that I personally don't need anything else for up to 4k rendering and up to 100 tracks in Logic/Ableton... I rarely will need anything else. Apple may "cripple" at times, but lately they sure have been generous with the performance of their products, I'm even still using a 2014 iPad Air2 Apple is still supporting. I'd personally love 1 USB-A port and SD slots on all their devices :D. It's great to have great choices, and I'd love to see Apple give the Camera Pro and Pro-Sumer markets something unique that would serve as a catalyst for FujiCaSoNikoPanOly :D. Not sure why I wrote that much lol... I've spent the last month moving us "Back-2-Mac", so I've thought about it more than usual, lol.

That way you compress the darker values without crushing the blacks.

Yeah that Fuji 8-16 2.8 was tested by "The Cameraville" against the Pentax 11-18mm 2.8 and the Pentax creamed it, but mind you the Fuji does go wider. The Pentax IBIS uses Horizon Correction, and I don't get what is going on with your XT4 IBIS because some of your shots are crooked, and I would assume Fuji IBIS is 5 axis and can level up a crooked camera. The IBIS still looked jittery on the XT4 unfortunately.
As for button presses. Every button press on a Smart Phone has to be patented. If you recall Apple inc suing Samsung for copying the APPLE "bump" in the swipe costed Samsung dearly. So every camera maker has to patent their whole user interface and every button press and swipe and dial etc. Now if Sony has the patent for changing between stuff, its because Sony pioneered the video features in their camera and patented all of the good stuff. Now Fuji is left holding its hotdog. Pentax is more for photography but Pentax invented a bunch of stuff on their IBIS like in-camera 4 shot pixel shift; and in-camera 4 shot pixel shift handheld; Astro Tracer (Which tracks the sky during night time photography for no streaky stars, and eliminates the cost of expensive Astro equatorial mounts); Horizon correction on or off; AA filter simulator (Which simulates and AA filter for some added blur to eliminate moire). So like with Pentax, they came up with stuff early well before the others because they went with IBIS from the start. The others (Canon and Nikon) went with OIS and their sponsored photographers made claims that IBIS is no good at all and just plain wrong, to which a lot of people bought into and believed the lie.
Sony also has tripod pixel shift pictures but I think its 16 images and they aren't processes in-camera, but in clunky software.
Olympus also does pixel shift pictures, but I think its 8 shots. I can't remember whether its processed in-camera or not (I think it is).
Fuji gfx does it with 15 images and its processed out of camera.
Hasselblad did it with 6 images, out of camera
But its too late Pentax won and makes the better system, and its in camera and can be done handheld. Why, because its fewer shots to gain true color information, and don in the least amount of time, and also in camera.
You have to patent all this tech so that it is exclusive to your camera brand or phone brand. Or you have to ask for a license to "borrow" the tech and your competitor may or may not sell it to you.

If you shoot video, you can easily use 3 modes for that. 4K30, 4K60, and 4K120. On top of that you have specific use cases like vlogging, birding, B-roll, all using different combinations of eye/face detect, focus distance limiters, IBIS modes, focus areas, and so on. Then you have photo modes, which could be optimized for landscape, portraits, wildlife, exposure/focus stacking, and so on. I'm a hybrid shooter so I don't doubt that I would make use of at least 4-5 of the modes. One of them would be a dumbed down auto mode for handing the camera to someone who doesn't know how to use it, so they can take a photo of you in a group or whatever the case is (for vacations, group activities, etc). I think 7 custom modes is freaking awesome and I'd rather have too many options than too few.
