That's how I felt for Annette Olson with Nightwish. She was limited in the records, but when I saw her perform Dark Chest of Wonders live I had no doubts that she was meant to do this.
Thanks for this vid. I think you got it just right that he's a low tenor. I think over time his voice will settle at slightly lower than he's currently singing. The first lines of 'Welcome To Mercy Falls' sounds so good for his voice. Just in the sweet spot! :)
They were smart. They searched for someone who could fill that empty space left behind when Roy left. It's so close to sounding like his voice. Of course, Roy will always be the original, but I appreciate the uniqueness of Tommy's voice as well :3
I tried these ranges on my guitar. Man, what a random work you did there. Only 10% is accurate. 4:57 his last note is G#5 instead of D5. Have mercy with your incompetence...
I really love how Tommy sings, really, but let´s be honest, the way that Tommy sings in S/W is much better than how he sings in Kamelot, is just my oppinion, that´s why i love Seventh Wonder more than Kamelot, just listen "The Great Scape", "Mercy Falls" and the "Waiting in the Wings" albums. You´ll know what i'm talking about! lml! Tommy Karevik is just the best lml he should be in Angra ;)
+Jorge Mendieta Totally agree. Kamelot was a better band with Roy Khan, especially The Black Halo. Khan had the emotion in that band then that Tommy had(s) in SW on Mercy Falls and The Great Escape and Waiting in The Wings.
Intro: Prodigal Son (Kamelot) Songs (in order, lots of repeats): - One Last Goodbye (Seventh Wonder) - Welcome to Mercy Falls (Seventh Wonder) - One Last Goodbye (Seventh Wonder) - Pieces (Seventh Wonder) - My Confession (Kamelot) - Pieces (Seventh Wonder) - Song for Jolee (Kamelot) - Pieces (Seventh Wonder) - Falling like the Fahrenheit (Kamelot) - Veritas (Kamelot) - Veritas (Kamelot) - My Confession (Kamelot) - Ashes to Ashes (Kamelot) - My Confession (Kamelot) - Welcome to Mercy Falls (Seventh Wonder) - Welcome to Mercy Falls (Seventh Wonder) - Prodigal Son (Kamelot) - My Confession (Kamelot) - Pieces (Seventh Wonder) - Sacrimony (Kamelot) - Pieces (Seventh Wonder) - Solitaire (Kamelot) - Veritas (Kamelot) - Falling like the Fahrenheit (Kamelot) - One Last Goodbye (Seventh Wonder) - One Last Goodbye (Seventh Wonder) - Silverthorn (Kamelot) - Torn (Kamelot) - Torn (Kamelot) - Tears for a Father (Seventh Wonder) - Unbreakable (Seventh Wonder) - Unbreakable (Seventh Wonder) - Prodigal Son (Kamelot) - Sacrimony (Kamelot) - Sacrimony (Kamelot) - Veritas (Kamelot) - My Confession (Kamelot) - Sacrimony (Kamelot) - Tears for a Father (Seventh Wonder) - Pieces (Seventh Wonder) - Sacrimony (Kamelot) - Tears for a Father (Seventh Wonder) - Ashes to Ashes (Kamelot) - Welcome to Mercy Falls (Seventh Wonder) - Welcome to Mercy Falls (Seventh Wonder) - Veritas (Kamelot) - [Unsure] (Seventh Wonder) - Hide and Seek (Seventh Wonder) - Welcome to Mercy Falls (Seventh Wonder) - [Unsure] (Seventh Wonder) - Star of David (Seventh Wonder) - One Last Goodbye (Seventh Wonder) - Solitaire (Kamelot) - [Unsure] (Seventh Wonder) - Star of David (Seventh Wonder) - Edge of My Blade (Seventh Wonder) Outro: [Unsure] (Seventh Wonder) Sorry it's not complete/organized by note/doesn't have the exact timestamp, but they should all be in order of appearance, and I hope this helps!! ^_^
Cool, very helpful. What is that note he roars out, "I've got to prove you wrong!" in "Not An Angel" from Waiting in the wings? That's always impressed me.
Correction…the title should read "Tommy Karevik's (Seventh Wonder) Vocal Range". :-) After all, much as I love Kamelot, Tommy was in SW before Kamelot (and thankfully still is), and Seventh WOnder is BY FAR the better band. Check out "The Great Escape" or "Mercy Falls" for proof (note that Tommy DID NOT sing on their first disc, "Become").
Actually, the title should say "Tommy Karevik's (Kamelot/Seventh Wonder) Vocal Range". It definetely should mention Seventh Wonder but Kamelot as well since Tommy is currently in both bands. And you can't say that Seventh Wonder is better than Kamelot because they are two different bands in two different subgenres of metal, therefore aiming for two different sounds. If you ask me, they are both great at they do, just not comparable.
two very different bands. both awesome. no need to pick one over the other cause in the end music is all about personal preference. Let's just agree that Tommy is amazing. :D :)
He's able to go higher than that, we did not hear his head voice in video, I believe he can reach A5 with his head voice, we are talking about vocal range, so it is possible.
Eric M He could go higher I'd say. He can belt an Eb5 in chest voice, I've so far only achieved an F4 in chest voice and I can hit an Eb6 in head voice.
Haha, hell yeah! It was amazing right? I mean, of course, every singer on every Ayreon album is insane.. But Tommy was my favorite on The Theory of Everything. And the Father was a close second.
Jason yeah, Tommy was my favourite singer in that album too, he's got a great voice and he is self-taught, hope to hear more like that on his next projects
yeah, he said in an interview that he didn't get vocal lessons at all, just practiced and practiced, and he also gave some tips he uses to keep his voice in good shape. That's what I call talent in its purest form
Old argument is old, but I still get an F5 when playing it to a keyboard. (I've also charted the song as a custom in Rock Band, which the vocal MIDI note also gives me an F5. I tried F#5 and it clashes with the actual note in the song.) To put it to the songs chord at the point (which is Eb major), an F# would clash against the chord as a minor 3rd. F natural as a 9th works much better, but now I'm spouting music theory which really doesn't mean much in this scenario since vocalists tend to get a bit more free will on what they wanna do lol
There you go: (Scheme: Song -Band-Album) Intro: Prodigal Son (Kamelot, Silverthorn) One Last Goodbye (Seventh Wonder, Mercy Falls) Pieces (Seventh Wonder, Waiting in the Wings) My Confession (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Song for Joleee (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Falling Like the Fahrenheit (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Veritas (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Ashes to Ashes (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Sacrimony (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Solitaire (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Silverthorn (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Torn (Kamelot, Silverthorn) Tears for A Farther (Seventh Wonder, Mercy Falls) Unbreakable (Seventh Wonder, Mercy Falls) Break the Silence (Seventh Wonder, Mercy Falls) A Day Away (Seventh Wonder, Mercy Falls) Star of David (Seventh Wonder, Waiting in the Wings) The Edge of my Blade (Seventh Wonder, Waiting in the Wings) Outro: Break the Silence (Seventh Wonder, Mercy Falls) This was fun to do! I know the songs well enough to recognise them without help by just hearing the short snippets in the video. Sometimes if i was unsure, the song kept playing in my head and then I knew which one it was. In case you haven't, give Seventh Wonder a listen. Amazing band and Tommy shows off a bigger range than in Kamelot.
+subwaytosally18642 Yesterday i actually remembered me writing this comment and not expecting someone to reply, Thanks for that and yes i have been listening to Seventh Wonder a lot lately
No. It's perfect. Other singers like Tarja (from circa 2002 until 2013) or Roy on the last two Kamelot albums overused their vibrato a lot. Tommy doesn't use his vibrato nearly as much as Tarja or Roy did.
+Jan Edjmeister Tommy Karevik foesn't sound forced. If there is something about singing where Karevik is better than Khan is his naturaly. Tommy's voice sounds naturaly every time, but Khan's voice breaks when he goes to the higher notes. Then it sounds forced, although his falcetto sounds like the product of years of hard working. That is: Kan's voice is a lot of hard working, and Karevik voice is just naturally powerful
Mike Greenwalt Well, Tommy never had any formal training. So, considering it, I think that he's as perfect as someone can get without formal training. To me at least.
Tommy is easily one of the best male voices out there today. Talented singer, and really nice guy too- met him after a Kamelot show. :)
I like Tommy. I couldn't think of a better replacement for Roy Kahn. I first heard of him when I saw him sing for Kamelot live. He blew me away!
That's how I felt for Annette Olson with Nightwish. She was limited in the records, but when I saw her perform Dark Chest of Wonders live I had no doubts that she was meant to do this.
Even his voice is sexy... It's like velvet.
Do you know which song it is taken from, thanks in advance for the answer.
Tears for a father - Seventh Wonder
That man is amazing.
Thanks for this vid. I think you got it just right that he's a low tenor. I think over time his voice will settle at slightly lower than he's currently singing. The first lines of 'Welcome To Mercy Falls' sounds so good for his voice. Just in the sweet spot! :)
Yo sólo sé que Tommy canta hermoso. Me encanta y me enamoré. :D
They were smart. They searched for someone who could fill that empty space left behind when Roy left. It's so close to sounding like his voice. Of course, Roy will always be the original, but I appreciate the uniqueness of Tommy's voice as well :3
So true
But i prefer roy
Kamelot had two prior singers before Roy khan
Of course, in Kamelot he has to try and sound like Roy Khan
+Jorge Mendieta Totally agree. Kamelot was a better band with Roy Khan, especially The Black Halo. Khan had the emotion in that band then that Tommy had(s) in SW on Mercy Falls and The Great Escape and Waiting in The Wings.
Jorge Mendieta Drums his first kamelot album is not great but in the latest one he sings more natural
ugh one last goodbye brings me to tears every time
What about his real high note near the end of Great Escape "hundreds were weeping and thousand crying"? Because that's pretty high too
i love you Tommy, and your Voice
I love Tommy Karevik's voice..🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽amazing voice...
The Intro solo is from Kamelot - Prodigal Son (at 3.16 mark).
gentleman, looks for other times, so great and beauty voice.
Please make vocal range of Roy Khan!
4th octave is high (acute) .-. and it doesn't seems like he is singing in the right octave or you got wrong with the notes... ._.
Where is Roy Khan ?
Actually his higher note is G5 in "Alley Cat live in Atlanta 2014"
Songs???
amor verdadero, moriria si me cantara al oido
Great video to link to anyone who thinks Tommy is not a dynamic, talented singer.
Could listen to him all day! :D
Specially the lower & softer songs
what's the name of the song from 5:18 ??
Can someone please mention the names of the songs played at each note? (Including the intro) I love to listen to them. :) :)

Ellyosa
Thank you very much friend.. \m/
Ellyosa The 3 you are unsure about are all "Break The Silence".
Cool, very helpful. What is that note he roars out, "I've got to prove you wrong!" in "Not An Angel" from Waiting in the wings? That's always impressed me.
Beautiful
Please, Vocal range of Roy Khan.
Correction…the title should read "Tommy Karevik's (Seventh Wonder) Vocal Range". :-)

I've just changed the title, thanks for suggestion! No idea why I hadn't named it that way in the first place. Thanks :)
two very different bands. both awesome. no need to pick one over the other cause in the end music is all about personal preference. Let's just agree that Tommy is amazing. :D :)
He is no Khan and not getting into a pissing match but let the youtube views be the judge
lul, well played
Anyone knows the song at 2:41 ?
Its Tears for a Father off Mercy Falls
he got Bb2 as his lowest note now in "Here's to the Fall."
He's able to go higher than that, we did not hear his head voice in video, I believe he can reach A5 with his head voice, we are talking about vocal range, so it is possible.
Eric M He could go higher I'd say. He can belt an Eb5 in chest voice, I've so far only achieved an F4 in chest voice and I can hit an Eb6 in head voice.
can someone please inform me how many octaves that is?
did you hear his collaboration as the main character in new Ayreon's rock opera album??
Haha, hell yeah! It was amazing right? I mean, of course, every singer on every Ayreon album is insane.. But Tommy was my favorite on The Theory of Everything. And the Father was a close second.
Jason yeah, Tommy was my favourite singer in that album too, he's got a great voice and he is self-taught, hope to hear more like that on his next projects
Jason I love the Prodigy/Father duets. =)
flying pig 77 Oh wow! I didn't know he was self-taught! That's amazing!
Issela Santina Haha, then you my friend have great taste! ;)
yeah, he said in an interview that he didn't get vocal lessons at all, just practiced and practiced, and he also gave some tips he uses to keep his voice in good shape. That's what I call talent in its purest form
He bulked up like crazy this year.
what is the name of first song?
What was the first song at G4?
Really don't like that is says tommy kaverick (kamelot) should totally be seventh wonder/kamelot..
Thank you for your suggestion, I've changed it :)
what's the highest he sings with Ayreon?
He smacks an F#5 at the end of Alley Cat too
Mitch Coull It's close, but the end of Alley Cat is an F5. Still damn impressive to do that and his voice still sound so powerful.
It's an F#. On guitar that would be e string 14th fret
F# indeed.
Old argument is old, but I still get an F5 when playing it to a keyboard. (I've also charted the song as a custom in Rock Band, which the vocal MIDI note also gives me an F5. I tried F#5 and it clashes with the actual note in the song.)

F natural as a 9th works much better, but now I'm spouting music theory which really doesn't mean much in this scenario since vocalists tend to get a bit more free will on what they wanna do lol
Fantastic video :) I've always been wanting to know what Tommy's range is.
The intro solo from 0:00 - 0:20? Please, someone?
Prodigal Son :)
What's the song from 1:28-1:33?
MissyCaitz definitely off Mercy Falls, I think it's Welcome to Mercy Falls (track 3)
That was it! Thank you!
what song's at 4:40?
What's the first song?
one last goodbye - seventh wonder :)
what is the name of the song is in B2 ?
+Andrés Mauricio Padilla Bolaños One last Goodbye (Seventh Wonder Mercy Falls)
Does anyone know each song? I know a few
Tommy is such a beautiful singer 😀
There you go: (Scheme: Song -Band-Album)

This was fun to do!
Tears for a Father from Mercy Falls :)
and also at 4:41
Little late, but 4:41 is the final "SOOOOOOLD!" from the first song of Seventh Wonder's album Waiting in the Wings - Star of David.
Mike Greenwalt god bless you, than you!!! :D
Natalia Glaridi No problem. I wish they'd played that song live in Atlanta. :(
Song list please!
Look for my comment then someone replied to it with the list
okay so instead of khan we've got his younger brother? :P
synysterxdave how does that statement make sense?
Low tenor? Why?
I think he is a High Tenor, his voice is so light.
It is also about the vocal range :)
Roy was a lyric tenor during his early years, after TBH he was a baritone.
***** F5 is pretty damn high tho lol i think he fits the requirements for a high tenor on both range and timbre.
his timbre is little darker. i would say hes a a low tenor. or baritenor. his 2 octave notes are too strong for a full tenor.
He doesn't do too many falsetos
What songs are on 2:41 and 5:04?
does kamelot a ishoner!!!
He is not Daniel Heimann but his voice is 10!
i love Tommy's voice. I can't compare anyone with him, but i don't like him a lot in Kamelot. it's like they suck his ability.
Not bad, but Devin Townsend kicks his ass (C2 to F7)
dishonor*
Anyone else annoyed by his overuse of vibrato?
No. It's perfect. Other singers like Tarja (from circa 2002 until 2013) or Roy on the last two Kamelot albums overused their vibrato a lot. Tommy doesn't use his vibrato nearly as much as Tarja or Roy did.
subwaytosally18642 Roy was king of vibrato :D
King because he knew when to use it so that it sounded not so forced.
+Jan Edjmeister Tommy Karevik foesn't sound forced. If there is something about singing where Karevik is better than Khan is his naturaly. Tommy's voice sounds naturaly every time, but Khan's voice breaks when he goes to the higher notes. Then it sounds forced, although
his falcetto sounds like the product of years of hard working. That is: Kan's voice is a lot of hard working, and Karevik voice is just naturally powerful
I made a mistake at the begining. It doesn't* , not foesn't
nowhere near Roy Khan
Karevik is better than khan
JimK nope, a few miles above him... ;)
Khan was and always better than this Karevik
Fantastic vocal. But roy ate better
Ruben Haugland roy khan was a good melodic singer but tommy is a whole other level.
Philip Malone oh no no
Tommy is a more complete singer.
Carlos Eduardo do Nascimento Gomes Tommy (Seventh Wonder)> Roy (Kamelot)
Cotramjoxxx Roy Khan (Conception) > Tommy Karevik (Seventh Wonder)
roy khan still is the best
*****
Training wise, Tommy's technique is very poor, but his sound is great (he's one of those people).
Mike Greenwalt Well, Tommy never had any formal training. So, considering it, I think that he's as perfect as someone can get without formal training. To me at least.
subwaytosally18642
That's my point. I think if Tommy got the training, it'd ruin his style and sound.
Mike Greenwalt
That's what I think, too.
Um no ! Im a huge fan of both of them but Roy's voice is too high for my liking
my cat sings better in the shower
what's the song at 4:21
Break the Silence, from one of the most masterful albums in progressive metal, Mercy Falls. (Seventh Wonder)
What's the song in 3:10?
S C G Collantes Silva sacrimony angel of after life
