I've been following a trail through the folk path and came across this. What a glorious concert. Thanks to Christopher we can all revel in these beautiful songs. Simply delightful. Thank you.
Friends, forgive me for hogging the limelight here, I've already commented once on this great show, but on my second listen I have to say how haunting and hypnotic this recording is. It's very folk club intimacy writ large, known what I mean? Thanks to those of you who were there and left your memories for the rest of us. Bless you.
I'm not sure there would have been a better time to see ol' Bert. Great sound for an audience recording, thanks so much for posting. Couldn't agree more about the Rosemary Lane period.
Hello Sir ! I hast read alle thy sleeve notes on Pentangle & Renbourn's albums. I missed songs as : "Woe is me" and "Wishing well" and "Blues run the game" and "A woman like you" frae B. Jansch. I dost own rare B. Jansch's recordings from 1962 recorded live in Glasgow. @@colinharper8791
There's something about that Rosemary Lane period where Bert shone very brightly indeed. The version of Silly Woman here is ridiculously beautiful. Just when I thought Jansch had no fresh spells to weave, there's this. Thanks Colin.
My copy of Rosemary Lane, which was bought in a close out bin at a record store that was clueless, was destroyed (warped) in the move we made from one house to another.
Spellbinding. Thought the River Sessions concert was one of his best on here but this equals if not surpasses it. Good to hear his intros and asides too, always a highlight for me, like in those heady days of the 60s, sat awestruck in smoky pub back rooms.
Dear Colin thanks very much for this rare and joyful testimony of Bert's immense talent. Never get enough of his poetry and eerie voice. What I found amazing is that every perid f his carreer has something new to bring. The last years his voice was mre profound and so much bluesier, I can't help but cry each time I listen to some of his songs
I can't say how wonderful it is to hear this. I was in the second row, 16yrs old, mesmerised. I'd heard the records but thought no-one could really sound like that live, but Bert did only more so. Anne Briggs also played an exquisite set, and COB got an encore which they so little expected they had to sing their final song (a show stopper called 'Bones') again. Would that those performances were available too. Temps perdu.
@@johndalton2059 Hi John, COB were Clive's Original Band, the Clive in question being Clive Palmer. The music they played was mainly from their first album, Spirit of Love. What fascinates me in retrospect is that this was (I understand) their debut gig as a band, and prior to it they were living in a caravan in Cornwall. So quite a big transition to the RFH.
This is brilliant! Thank you for all the Bert memories. Your book; Dazzling Stranger, well lets just say that I've read it 3 times so far and I see more readings coming. For a guy with just a guitar and vocals he fills the room with a sound that takes you on and on and on........
Been obsessed with Pentangle and Bert for about 20 years, this is as good as anything I've (n)ever heard. I'm in debt to your upload. He plays (possibly) my two fave Bert tracks in Wayward Child and Silly Woman back to back and I'd say his voice is even better than the record. The guitar has so many layers and volumes it's staggering. I'll be astonished if I find a better live recording of anyone on their game as this. Bert is a peerless Scottish treasure.
Wow; beautiful. Thank you so much for uploading this! So many of my favorite Jansch songs; I have been searching for live versions of many of these songs for a long time.
My goodness Colin this is a good one! Thanks to you and your unnamed fan. Just listened, for the first time, to an upload of River Sessions (Glasgow live 74) and Bert's voice is just so different from here. Remarkable. He sounds Pentang-ly here, both vocals and intros. The 74 gig is quite different. Not better or worse, just different. Colin, your uploads continue in that grand tradition of sharing the glories; we are all in your debt.
@@cosmosaic8117 I was definitely there. I was a 20 yr old dental student at Guy's Hospital and a big fan of Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Pentangle. I remember that concert clearly. I play the guitar and this made a big impact on me. I play at open mics and belong to a folk club. I often play music from this period. I had a happy time as a student in London all those years ago. It was a magical concert and I feel privileged to have been there.
Hi Colin Chris Gardiner here, long time no speak! Hope that all is well with you? It was I who recorded the Bert RFH show and gave you a copy of the tape, so if you can add a credit that would be nice? It's a pity the recording didn't get released as originally intended. it deserves a wider audience. All the best Chris
Fantastic Chris - lovely to hear from you! I had lost the paper trail, hence your name. I will certainly add it here. Since this upload, I've had the recording carefully restored/mastered in the hope that it might be deemed suitable for release (to be clear: this upload is the not-mastered original). Permission to release is out of my hands and has thus far not been forthcoming. I share your view that it should be made widely available in the best sound possible. Contact my privately, Chris - it would be good to get the original cassette digitised on high-end gear at 24-bit. I'm happy to get that done for you. I'm easy to find online. :-)
@@davehamilton-smith9460 Dave, no I'm afraid that I didn't tape either of them, in fact I only dimly remember COB's set and I'm deeply ashamed to say that I have absolutely no recollection of Ann Briggs set at all! There is a COD live recording that I made at Guildford Civic Hall dated November 1972 when they opened for Pentangle, I think Colin has a copy. Chris
@@christophergardiner2564 Would love to hear that too, maybe even better as I'm particularly fond of their 2nd album from that year. I hope it can be dug out sometime!
Plug in 'Greek Street', site of 'Les Cousins' into Google Maps. The place is surrounded by Chinese joints. Things change, and they don't stay the same either. RIP Bert.
Great introduction to bird song
Phenomenal performance! Bird Song is mesmerizing.
Rosemary Lane live in the time it was made, wow
Thank you. this guy is mesmerising and its good t see other people are also obsessed...he has that effect. R.I.P. Bert we wont see your like again!

The Jimi Hendrix of acoustic guitar alchemy , oh to have had Bert and Nick jamming .
Wow❤..all of his greatest songs included in this one concert...this is pure magic!!!❤
This is gold dust - Bert is completely in the zone here.
This set shows the genius of the man

Yes! Rosemary Lane absolutely, but also Birthday Blues and Moonshine. I was overjoyed to see Twa Corbies and Yarrow in this setlist. Just magical.
@@rebeccahall651Also the slightly spooky & ethereal rendering of 'Oh My Babe'. Hell of a setlist.
There seems to be an extra verse in Silly Woman if I'm not mistaken?
