MADFISH MUSIC - CHRISTMAS PROMO 2024
My good pal Mark Case has created this promo for recent releases on the splendid Madfish imprint. Heartily recommended. If only I could afford them! :-) I was delighted to have worked with Mark, and Madfish, this year past on the Fairport Convention 12-disc set featured in the promo. I'll be involved in at least three Madfish projects next year (Horslips at the BBC 4CD+DVD, Martin Carthy at the BBC 20CD and a mystery Horslips item later in the year) - and perhaps more. Exciting!

The full performance of my tune 'Blues for a Green Earth', as excerpted in the documentary 'Legends of Harper' (BBC NI, 2/24), produced, directed and edited by the wonderful trio of Barry Devlin, Cormac O'Kane and Richard Brown. This was filmed in the cabaret lounge at Ballyhackamore Working Men's Club in August 2023 - the room used for the fabulous Scott's Jazz Club on Fridays. Heartfelt thank...

Colin Harper - Indecision/Revisionism (demo)
มุมมอง 1797 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm fascinated with punk history, not least Ulster punk history. A lot of those involved talk about 'revisionism' - but it seems to me that nobody really knows what this is bar somebody else disagreeing with whatever their memory or perception of things might be. This song is nothing more than a sideways glance at the debate, a gentle bit of satire and nostalgic affection. I'm on nobody's 'side...

I'm fascinated with old punks - and have several good pals among them - and the whole soap opera about Ulster/Belfast punk is especially fun. It is a many-layered thing populated by curious characters - a bit like 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' - in which colourful individuals have various strong/contrary views about who did what when, who profited, who dropped the ball, who was in charge, ...

I love that people are still finding interview footage of this humble talented man. RiP Bert
I was lucky enough to have seen Quintessence in the early 70s too - Kennington Oval - Weeley festival - Barking & Southend colleges - they were an amazing band & and created a wonderful atmosphere with their presence & inter play - I listen to this historic snippets & I'm struck by how refreshing their wonderful music was/is - I would love to own a hard copy of these recordings for my own collection - purely personal reasons not for financial gain - Respect to you all & a big thank you for posting
So glad she chose me!!!!❤

I saw John Renbourne on a number of occasions in my youth 1960s and 70s. I must admit that I just took him for granted. I watch this and I’m mesmerised.😊😊
Shite!
He's really digging the pentatonic thing here. I think his greatest strength was his sound and his feel backing others. Such a distinct sound.

Rod's autobiography- they'd all hit the pub across from the BBC dragged John Peel and themselves back for the show recording just in time. Still, great music for those listening to the radio! Rod and John great friends, Rod even went to his wedding.
Pity they spelt my name wrong!
Comparing this performance with a 1970 one... It's as good if not better!
The interviewer is still cringing to this day. "Do you use plectrums, John? Plectrums???".
What's that bitter Marxist presenter doing on here? Has ruined my experience listening to Pentangle
This is great stuff but there is something wrong here John Peel didn’t have a co-host on Top Gear as far as I remember it was just him introducing everything!
No, nothing wrong at all: the first five weeks of 'Top Gear' (1 October- 5 November 1967) were presented by Pete Drummond with a series of different co-hosts; from 12 November 1967-28/1/68 it was a regular duo of Tommy Vance & John Peel (including the episode excerpted above); thereafter, it was John Peel solo.
Im a great appreciator of mrs. Vivien McAuliffe voice. Thanks for This rare peace of históry
what's that instrument with the curled end?
wow
Bought this on release and to be honest forgot what a masterpiece of an album it is. Class
Thank you. 🙏
Remarkably beautiful… Beautiful indeed!
I had the privilege of being brought up by my Dad, a jazz/blues/folk fan who spent his whole life fighting to 'Keep Music Live'. So much so, I had the gift of God honour to see, and meet, Pentangle reformed twice. My father was a modest, introspective man until injustice, then he arose. My greatest, most cherished, memory of him was standing on stage introducing the newly reformed Pentangle and just shining, glowing, emanating in the success of sharing the greatest group of musicians ever to have played a (small) venue anywhere, ever. :] Thanks to him, and my mother (classical/opera/big band/folk), I have an encyclopaedic love of music...however, ONLY Pentangle lift me beyond everything, and everyone, else and remind me the beauty that can be created when a group of people work together. Joy to you.

This is pretty far out as we used to say!
Great song then great song now
❤❤❤❤❤
I was there! Interesting. I thought the first track was the final one they played as they said it was different and going in a new direction. Talented bunch with Henry Lowther on violin here.
Barbara Thompson was part of the big band on this recording
Wow…the cadence is brilliant 🤗🙏🍺cheers
this gig was performed on the very day i was born. 27/11/1973
This is a band of wizards and magicians; gotta' be old enough to hear what they're giving. What's the 2nd song called? Also, was this the first band to use Orange amps?
Simply stunning. The GOAT, as the youngsters say.
Love this Peel show, with Principal Edwards' Magic Theatre also in session (i think) Were these songs ever released on an album?
No.
@colinharper8791 shame
Fair dues Colin ,love this slice of N.i hard rock ,first time to hear S.O.S, great lead guitar wow !
super swinging from these absolut top musicians. Take five or 3 .2 Love it
The discovery of the century: I stumbled upon Gryphon as a teen curious about the artwork on Red Queen to Gryphon Three. The various instruments the lads played were quite diverse and mind blowing. Once I heard the album, it was lights out for me. What a treasure of a band and so talented!!
Right there with you. "Red Queen to Gryphon Three" is truly a great album.
I love the five Gerry Rafferty tracks. Great.
Richard Thompson's guitar work, Simon Nicol's bass weaving bottom end and Sandy Denny's soaring voice stand out in this performance. "I'll Keep It With Mine" and "Percy's Song" take me back to that great synthesis of Rock and Folk in the late '60, '70's. Beautiful music. "Turn, Turn, Again. Turn, Turn, to the rain and the wind." We're either all still at it, or we've joined with the ancients.
9:29 - 9:54 woooow ❤
the second song sounded like Love
This is real music.
Magnificent, reminding us that we once had a culture, now only appreciated by a minority.
I've witnessed greatness she's no doubt in the high ranks of vocal giants transcends all notion of time
I saw the Incredible String Band, when they were just a duo, at the jazz club at the University of Sussex around 1967/68. The next time I saw them was at the The Dome in Brighton. The opening act was Pentangle whom I had not heard of before. They were so amazing that I went to see them every single time they came to town. I bought all their albums as soon as they came out and it was if I was watching their unique sound evolve. They gave me such joy in my student days and as I started a family. Now 56 years later in 2024, they still bring the same great joy with their poignant combination of traditional folk songs and supreme musicianship. Thank you all for everything you have created for us to enjoy.
Terry Cox!! x 🥁🎤🎵🎶🎼🔥👍
Still find it hard to believe. Amazing technique and soul. Pity he stopped turning up for gigs...
