As they say here in NI them plants are "tatty bread." Thanks for that never grown spuds before, but I've spread them around the garden in 3 separate places, just in case. Happy you have at least a feed out of them.
it spread to tomato and peppers as well.. and now a new more resistant blight is discovered and not so treatable. big farmers spray against blight 5 times each season
So sorry you had blight on the potatoes Ivan. Thank you for showing us what to look out for. Hope you enjoy the harvest of potatoes. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ivan, it's a shame that the plants had blight but, every cloud as they say, at least it wasn't a total disaster and those little spuds look nice. Take care and all the best. Stevie
I know now what to look for, thank you. I was curious and dug up a few potatoes yesterday, little russets and a red but no yukons yet in a mixed potato bin.
better than nothing. I had to harvest one of mine early but I had a fair few that's perfect for new potatoes. I'm going to look at canning some as they store that way really well
glad you got something out of it at least, thanks for showing us what to look for. my 2nd earlies have some brown/yellow parts on edges of a few leaves and im panicking but theres none of the spots on the leaves, they just dont look like they are doing too well though and ive put it down to the fierce heat but will be watching them constantly now!
Is that Kerrs pink potato the old Scottish, if so they are not so resistant to blight =? i am growing some kerrs pink this year here in Northern Norway
Hi Ivan , great update , I am a bit worried about my potatoes too , ihave a 6x3 raised bed half Charlotte's and half red Duke of York both put in on 23/3 but my Charlotte's leaves are a very yellow and brown some have totally gone but my red Duke of Yorkshire are fine still green , no flowers on either and after watching your update I'm a bit worried any advice gratefully received from 👍
Hi Jim try this 3 tablespoons of baking soda 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil 1 teaspoon of dish soap 1 gallon of water Mix all of the ingredients and add to a spray bottle. Be sure to spray the affected and surrounding plants early in the morning or late in the day when the sun isn’t so intense. You’ll need to reapply every few days, especially if you’ve had rain. Don’t expect any miracles. The above recipe will help slow the disease’s spread, so you still have fruit to harvest but likely won’t completely kill a major outbreak. Hope this helps Thank you
I had what I thought was early blight last year around May/early June but it didn't look the same as yours. The spots on mine appeared to be concentrically ringed which is what I had seen on some early blight photos online. In the end I left them and harvested the crop without issue (even for the main crops). The disease did not spread to nearby tomatoes so I'm really not sure what it was but it certainly is concerning. Magnesium deficiency is one possible cause I found for my case. In the case of your potatoes I wonder if it might be septoria leaf spot and not blight as I could not really see any concentric rings on the spots. What do you think? P.S. I am not an expert
@@ivans-gardening-allotment-uk Yeah definitely not easy, I think disposing of them is the right call if in doubt as early blight can remain in the soil if it is that.
I thought it was too early for blight, could it be rust? I've just googled it and it brought up some similar images to yours. worth a thought, or maybe I'm clutching at straws lol
Hi Anita i double checked myself as well and found pictures that looked like my leaves in the blight section Just would not risk keeping them in case it spreads Thank you
Praying I don't get it 🤞To be honest I don't even know when mine are meant to be ready and can't remember what they are 😅 I really need to label things.
Wow that's a brilliant little early harvest 👊
Thanks 👍
Thanks for that Ivan- in 40+ years of growing veg I've never seen blight, and that's shown me something to look out for

Oh dear. I wish I could send a picture of mine. I think I am starting with the same problem. But not sure.
I am doing a video today making a homemade treatment for blight it wont cure it but it will slow it down
Yes that's early blight ,Ive chopped off all foliage but hve left the tubers in to form skins .
Crazy how it just creeps up on you
Thank you Susie
Thanks Ivan l know what to look out for now, I’m going to check my potatoes.

Hi Ivan, what do you do with the compost they were growing in? Do you need to bin that too? Or can it be reused?
It is better ti bin it as it can lie dormant then come back if its Blight that is

hi ivan do you have to get rid of the compost as well.iv got 5 ,buckets of potatoes which look like they've got blight .cheers.
I do or maybe douse with boiling water if you want to save some
Thank you Gary
Where do you dispose of the soil from the tub?
I used to bin it Thank you Linda
Blight comes from the soil not the plant !! That is why a two year rotation for all night shades is highly recommended ! It
Thank you

Hi, do you get rid of soil as well?
yes im binning that too
Thank you
@@ivans-gardening-allotment-ukWas just going to ask same question. Good to know what to look out for.. Lovely little Salad potatoes though.
Shame, but a little is better than nothing, thanks for the heads up about blite ...
Thank you Carol
What about the compost, is it infected now ?
I was going to ask same question, but someone already asked. Ivan said the soil was also binned..
Just dont want to take the risk
Thank you
Hi it spreads and is airborne so i bin the compost to cut back on further infection
Thank you Katya
@@ivans-gardening-allotment-uk thank you Ivan for your reply x
Nice little harvest. It's time for me to see what I have as the plants are dying rapidly.
Hope you get a great harvest
