On this Rock Rods Tech Tip Jake Burkey not only shows you how to groove your tires using a homemade tire grooving tool but why you should groove them for better performance and added traction. Here is a good cutter like the one we used only for $60 - amzn.to/2ghPAfP or you could get a fancy batter powered one for $120 - amzn.to/2fWX97w

You prolly dont give a shit but does someone know a way to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Derrick Johnny Instablaster :)
@Yusuf Gannon i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Yusuf Gannon it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass :D
@Derrick Johnny You are welcome :)
Dude. Awesome explaination of tire grooving and why you would do it. I dont comment much but thought you deserved a shout out. Good luck in your future buddy, Great job.
Thanks!
that makes grooving tires look easy!!! Thanks for the great tip!!
+jeff young it is the way to go!
This is exactly the video I was looking for! I have some Interco Aqua Torque ATV tires that I want to take out the smaller center lugs to make paddle tires. Thank you!
this should work well
This is EXACTLY what I was thinking of doing on the same tires. Basically turning them into System 3 XM310's.
That worked pretty damn good, never thought about one of those.
+14x4nut pretty easy
Thank you! Excellent way to grove/block tires. I am going to practice on some old tires and then move on to my M151.
Glad we could help 👍
Awesome tv voice. well spoken. great video
+Phillip Dixon Jr thanks
Would like to see a video on the theory behind shock placement when your designing your suspension. Height, Angle, etc. I've see a lot that are angled and also some bouncers that are vertical. Just curious what the thought process is behind it.
+Three Percent Patriot good question
It changes the suspension spring rate i know that.so depending on the angle will depend on the coil spring rates that are needed
Have you ever been to the West coast? Here in the Pacific Northwest we have a lot of mud. Dirt and rock hill climbs. Not much sand. The preferred tire around here is a TSL bias ply.
TSL SX sticky is the ticket
Wow, very well said brother
Glad you liked it
Excellent job, makes those SS tires much more effective
+russ carney right
thank you for this video.. I have bald solid tire on my skid steer. not for long .. a big $$$$ saver. thank you. rock on from cali
yeah that could work too
I have re-grooved tires with a heat grooving iron but I like your way a lot better. The heat groover works on shoe soles that have lost it's tread pattern. Keeps you from slipping on a wet or oily bay floor. lol
+Mike Idol (capman911) this takes less effort
ha ha ha ha no joke i did that to my boots when i worked at advance auto in college. too funny
Nice, Im going to try this. Thanks for posting.
How long did the edge on the blade last?
itll last a pretty good while.
I just tell people is to think of the difference between wearing cowboy boots vs cleats in the snow
pretty much
I know it has been 4 years, one thing I am not finding is a talk about axel length. Like is a longer axel better for leverage, or is the disadvantage of wider gurth negating the benefit.
It’s also hard to find things on dampening, and how exactly that term applies to the physics of suspension.
depends on what you want to do
Good video...
I feel like you could've went over multiple styles of grooving (besides just a Aetna cut) and some of the benefits of different styles for different terrains.
Like cutting 'V's in the middle lugs of a TSL and a line through the outside lugs.. It softens up to carcass and allows it the wrap better on roots/rocks especially on lighter rigs. Etc.
And you could have went on different ways to groove. Like a grooving iron, air hammer, chainsaw, etc.
Despite that, I love all your other videos. Especially the one on anti-squat and anti-dive.
+Andrew Williams We teach about what we know. We know aetna cut to move soil. we are not light weight rock crawlers
I've lived on the west coast all my life we have a lot of mud, loose Rock, dirt and sand just like the East coast. With the exception of southern California I think you're thinking of Midwest and places like Arizona where it's dry Dusty and a lotta Rock.
we just know King of the Hammers terrain
I would like to see you groove some Thorn bird TSL super swampers
I am sure there are people who have
Today on Rock Rods: How to make Diggers! 😂
+rzr kid Ats Right!
Use a hot iron groover and take it down to the belt, takes off weight and gives you excellent traction👍🏻
down to the belt is sketchy
Thanks alot great vid.
glad you dig it
@@BustedKnuckleVideo Ive spent last 3 hrs regrooving a 38 TSL the way you showed me. Works great thanks again
Just 3 more to go
just takes a while
depends on what part of the west coast
sticky rocks
You should cut lines in the tires like winter tires so that those little rubber blades will grip even more when it gets down to solid earth
That would get shredded apart on the rocks with 800 horsepower
for his rock crawler?
+BustedknuckleVideo there fun yes
How do you know how deep you can cut them? I have cut 43 sx stickies but someone done a poor job cutting them and I would like to recut them this way.
If you start losing air you went too far
Lol
the neighbors are gonna love this
why would they care?
@@BustedKnuckleVideo little tools loud.
lol that's nothing compared to what the buggy sounds like
@@BustedKnuckleVideo the tip grinding tip is crutial! Thanks for that. Dont want it diggin down
Did you just sharpen a smooth blade?
yes
How do you like that cut I’m thinking I want to cut mine like that
works well for the TSLs
@@BustedKnuckleVideo have you found a good cut for the sx2 tires?
Yep. Voids are more important than knobs.
+denelvo in loose soil yes
wish I could get a buggy
+Dude Soup Stop wishing and get to work.
very helpful always wonders how to do it
+William J glad to help
how long does this take cause it looks like it would take forever
+Ben Breckner hr per tire
I have an rzr though
+Dude Soup those are fun,
Never thought of an oscillating machine ! Gunna work good along side the chainsaw, when it's time to freshen up my current set of tire's.
+Slideways18 Chainsaw!
Yeah ! Electric with a 8"bar. Much quicker and easier then a heated groover and cleaner then an angle grinder haha.
+BustedknuckleVideo
Any relation to Johnny burkey in New Mexico he crawls and is al capones kin
Don't think so.
how long does it take to do all 4 tires lol 3 weeks
couple of hours
that's not to bad
not at all
Do more atv videos . Sidebyside vids moreee !!

+FIRE CHARGE There is no snow in Alabama....
ahhh ok
Just come out the Koh 2020....an hit BACK DOOR Friday nights. Yo... PUT SOME N.O.S...THAT Bouncer
been there done that multiple times
usefull technique, but i wouldnt really call it grooving,.its more removing entire lugs. for most applications id say this is a bit extreme, and deviding up the lugs with a regular heated groover would be plenty
For loose soil this is a game changer, it does not however help much in the rocks
2:38
Wow. I've never had it explained so well. I knew the reason behind it, but you went into more depth, and I went from a joe to a joe exotic on the subject, that bitch carol
it helps!
I got some low profile 30r26s i think ima cut to some mud tires..looking like some tsl bogger on 26s..lol
You lost me at low profile
let's see some welding!!!
+Baily Davis we can handle that.
+BustedKnuckleVideo yessir

boggers vs swampers
+Will Simpson boggers for loose soil, sx stickies for the rocks
preference really. i like sx stickies because they hook on rock because of the compound and dig in dirt as well
Thanks I was wondering how they compared to each other. I knew that the sx were a softer compound than the boggers. Thanks for the info!
