I grew up in a Hungarian household and my grandma made a similar version of the 200 year old receipt for fried mashed potato balls using leftover mashed potatoes. Her version was "potato cakes". Instead of breading the outside, everything was mixed together and fried in a skillet. She mostly just used onion, salt & pepper and parsley for her version as far as seasoning, omitting the rosemary, thyme and nutmeg. And of course we had duck or goose depending on what my great-uncle was able to successfully hunt.

Forgive me for asking but do you have any running water nearby-I guess what I’m asking is how do you wash your hands? Between the raw meat and eggs and just the mess of mixing butter with your hands or the potatoes, I keep wondering!
      Thanks.

We saw Murray and Captain Feathersword singing Five Little Ducks together. Right after the song, there was a duck swimming in the water, looking very peaceful and beautiful while the instrumental version of Five Little Ducks was playing in the background. It broke my heart to realize that ducks, just like that one, were being hunted, shot, killed, plucked, and made into food.

I love all your cooking videos! They are all so interesting to see and just fill me with joy. So thank you truly for making them! I rarely comment because I mostly don't know what to say exactly, but today's the day lol. It's very nice to see oftentimes the cooking being still very similar to a lot of the cooking of area where I come from (northern Italy), especially so for the choices in spices and herbs, even though now we obviously use modern appliances for it.
Not sure if you would mind this, but growing up I would love to eat a very old, very simple winter soup my grandma would make. Her mother used to make it, and her grandma as well and so on; they were a farmers family and poor when my grandma was growing up as consequence of the second world war, so this is now associated with being a very poor meal. It's made with vegetable stock (beef or chicken stock is also okay, or a mix of veg/meat stock), savoy cabbage (cut roughly any way you like, just not shredded thin) and lastly rice. I always thought it was delicious since trying as a little child once and that's why during winters she often made it for me rather than for herself or my grandpa lol. Just thought you might like to try it, especially if having the time to make the stock yourself with varying veggies and/or bones, as I think it could have been a meal from the time and place you portray as well, though I'm not sure 100%. Regardless, thank you again!

Those fried mashed are a good way to use up the last of things like potatoes, carrots, parsnips. I will definitely try.

The bread crumbs on a roasted duck is very intriguing. I might have to try that.

Love your snow. You have more than we do in Cincinnati. We had quite a bit of sleet and snow but did not accumulate like yours.
    Duck looks delish.

I just want you to know how much my family loves your channel and truly appreciates everything you do. Our family lives off grid, and our source of cooking and baking is similar. Our family says we're too old fashioned but we could never go back to a modern kitchen. ❤️❤️

I love watching your videos.. it reminds me of when I was younger and our family lived in a tent and log lean-to on some property. We cooked over a brick and stone hearth my parents built, all our food was from scratch. I because really good at cooking over a fire and coals, baking as well. It was the best time in my life
