Definitely has that trigun, bebop, toonami style to it and it works so well. The animation, OST, vibe. I enjoyed this episode a lot. They are nailing the humor, and slice of life perfectly.
As long as it's an enjoyable experience, that's all I can ask for out of an anime. I'll continue to read the manga as we go through the season to compare the two, but I'm guessing this was mostly a faithful adaption given that I haven't seen many people complain about episode 1. It's still early of course, but I'm optimistic about the rest of the season given the quality of this episode. - Twitchy
As a manga reader I think they did a great job. Is it perfect no but honestly given past history with companies like Mappa and what it would take to fully match the visuals of a series like Sakamoto Days I’m fine with the concessions they are making. They look to be dancing a line between representing the spirit of the series without running their animators into the ground and as long as they can keep up a similar level of quality with maybe some extra flair on the really big moments then I’ll be happy.
That’s great to hear from you as a manga reader. Seen a lot of mixed opinions coming from people after seeing the trailers and/or the opening last week. I agree, as long as the essence/spirit of the series is being broadcast properly, then it should be a great experience. And given that everyone is on the same page about the manga’s fight choreography being amazing, I think it’ll allow people to freak out less. It will help them accept the fact that these are simply two different mediums with different production. We’re excited to react to the anime and the manga as well when the time comes. :) -Vonte
