In the article, which I think was first published in the Wall Street Journal (but not 100% sure), she is pictured wearing a trump 2024 hat and t-shirt.
It would be sensible to believe she gets her 'news' from certain sources and Rachel just explained why this story has emerged in this location. If a na zi group is spreading rumours, they are going to be amplified by specific 'news' shows and social media sites.
Apparently she did apologise with the help of her (adult) daughter and a translation app.
This should have been a small-town local issue. Trump & Vance have given it oxygen, while knowing the truth.
I also read that the residents of Springfield, Ohio are responding by supporting Haitian businesses & restaurants in the area. I do hope that is true.

I remember back in the mid seventies when a lot of Vietnamese refuges moved to my town after the war. The exact same accusations were made against them, that they were catching, killing and eating peoples pets. We didn't have the internet back then, so it couldn't "go viral." It was spread around by word of mouth.
Yeah, back when chicken was 19 cents per pound, and all refugees received ample food stamps.

Rachel was spot on in saying that Trump is really good at doing or saying something new that disgusts us rather than distracts us. But he does it all for him. He wants to keep the conversation on him. He needs attention and love and fear. He wants people angry and scared so they give him power.
The thing that really worries me is that JD is showing that he wants to spread hate and fear to bring attention to real problems. But he doesn't want to address those problems with nuance and compassion. He wants the solution to be hate, fear, and violence. Eventually trump gets in his own way because the end goal is never about the thing hes talking about it's just about himself. JD and Desantis and all those behind project 2025 actually want to get things done. Horrible, terrifying, racist, sexist, violent, christian nationalist and facist things. Power is enticing but it is not pure ego and narcisim that drives them. It is the end goal of achieving the hellish reality they envision.

I live in a town that was a major relocation area for Hmong refugees back in the 70’s and 80’s and heard the same racist claims of immigrants eating pets. It never happened. What actually happened was that we got some really good Vietnamese restaurants and some of the best farmers markets you’ve ever seen.
