Lonergan Cues - Making a new shaft for broken pool cue

This cue came in for repair with a nasty break towards the tip end of the cue.
It was badly splintered and couldn't be saved. The customer decided to have a joint put into the cue and a new shaft made for it.
The grain is a good match to the original and is a top quality piece of ash.

How is the tapered workpiece held in the chuck?

It's held using a tapered sleeve I made
