Journey was good with Steve but journey became so so good with Arnel... strong teamwork, support for each other and no hang ups!
Steve was great with Journey, Arnel just takes it to the next phrase of the band which is also great

You can see the good chemistry with the group. Looks so relaxed. Golden boy, awesome. The guy looks so young.
AP is a goldmine! The FRESH JOURNEY is amazing! Fans now range from the babies to the oldies to the goldies! Even non fans became believers
I did some research for the question for Arnel at 4:05. He said he was 10 years old when he first listened to Journey, but whatever he listened to can't have been from the 'Escape' album. He was born year 1967, so he would be 10 years by 1977-78. The album he was referring to was most likely 'Infinity', which was released in early-1978 and contained the hits "Lights" and "Wheel in the Sky". 'Escape' was released in mid-1981, and Arnel would be 14 by that time. In any case, this only means he really was a fan of Journey early on because it would be on 'Infinity' where Steve Perry debuted, and that's awesome.
@sheen...While my loyalty will always be with Perry, I agree that Arnel seems like an amazing person, a classy, professional musician, and a wonderful, decent human being with a lot of talent. I wish him all the best. If he puts out a solo album, I would love to get it.

Arnel is a pro and has been for years before joining Journey, he wasn't just some random homeless guy in 2007 when Neal found him on TH-cam , yes he had been homeless for a while when he was in his early teens, this whole cinderella story is a bit stretched.

Again it's AOK for AP to save his voice. He really doesn't need to talk at any press conference but he does need to sing at the top of his lungs for the concerts. It's obvious AP is content to just enjoy being with the group.

@METAL-not sure why you think that. Sure, I doubt that having to say the same thing 10 times over to a different TV or magazine reporter was the favorite activity for anyone. But he was the most articulate of all of them, well spoken, thoughtful, with perhaps the exception of Valory. Schon still sounds like he's in junior high. And if you look at the GQ interview of 2 years ago they talked for almost an hour, the Canadian radio interview this summer, almost 1/2 hour-not sure I can agree with you

Did Jonathan say Steve Perry didn't want to come to Europe in the 80s for some reason? Also Neal Shorn said now there was no one on the way to say "we should play this song, not this song ... " when asked why Revelation has much better songs than the former albums. I do think it was Arnel Pineda voice and his stage presence that captivated millions more, I am still trying to get hold of the Revelation Album and all Journey's new albums. Can please someone post here where I can purchase these?

Do a little historical research...Interviews almost yearly with fan asylum, Rob Evans in the U.K., Dennis Miller, Rockline, Tiger Beat, Good Morning America, etc., etc., etc. During every televised interview, he was the 'point person' for the band. He clearly handled himself beautifully in interviews, and gave intelligent, well-thought out, often humorous answers. Neither you nor I are in his head, so who is to say if he 'liked' interviews-but he certainly, did lots of them very well!

Sorry, but in interview Perry said exactly the opposite! That he loved touring Europe and Japan when asked about some of his favorite places he's played. So don't believe all the sour grapes you hear from band members who apparently resented that they couldn't get anybody to listen to them without Perry-or someone who could sound like him.Every singer they've gotten since then has had to have one requirement-try to sound like Perry. Gee, why is that? Because people wanted to hear PERRY!

I think you misunderstood the concept of a band. Journey is not Perry and Perry is not Journey. They look for a frontman who can mimic their signature. Perry is just a piece of Journey's history
Perry destroyed the band with his ego. He wanted to control everything in the band. He wanted to outshine the original singer of the band Greg Rollie. Don't want to believe me? Guess what, he even fired Ross Valorie and Smith.

Sorry-but Trial by Fire was recorded in 1996-and his voice was so wonderful that he and Journey got a Grammy nomination "When You Love a Woman'-which totally disproves your contention that he lost his voice. Also, check out his backup tracks for David Pack in 2004-beautiful! Randy Jackson this year that his voice is still gorgeous-and he is definitely reported in various reputable sites-including his own July interview, as recording again. Any singer can have an off night-colds, etc.
Funny how when Steve Perry needed to do the same thing, Schon disrespected him and accused him of being antisocial. Bit of a double standard going there!
Now no Dean no Ross feels so do do weird it was nice that Steve Smith came back but now they have kicked out Ross and Steve ......is it journey anymore ?......

Interesting that Jon Cain had to throw in a dig about Steve Perry not wanting to tour in Europe-read Perry's Fan Asylum interview of Feb.3, 2005 where he says he really enjoyed touring in 'Japan and in Europe'. Looks like Cain just couldn't resist a little petty vindictiveness-sounds more like he was upset because without Perry, no one wanted to see or hear HIM in Europe-and still wouldn't if Arnel wasn't able to sound like Perry on the cover songs.
