I used a couple of colorful plants in my terrarium and within 2 days they start to loose a little bit of color. Why is that? Temperature too low? Not enough sun?

Am I the only one who thinks that using desert plants in a terrarium is just wrong? A terrarium mimics a tropical (hot and humid) environment, so why make desert plants unhappy there?!
